  1. Unfortunately, human laws aren't always laws of humanity. I would have put the deer out of its misery but I wouldn't have taken the meat. Too many issues that can arise from what your friend did.
  2. I was visiting my parents tonight and my dad was showing me this year's license he received in the mail. On the actual License Privileges tag it says Lifetime Sportsman License. Being it's a Sportsman license it should still include fishing as a privilege. Assuming that it does, my question is, what is the time period that the fishing license is valid for? Is it still Oct.1-Sep.30 or is it one year from the date the license was issued? I purchased my licenses the other day and the fishing license has a one year expiration from the day it was purchased. Just trying to get clarification. Thanks in advance.
  3. Not sure why it had gotten so bad on the Island. When I used to rabbit hunt the Island, going back to the 1980's, I nor my hunting partner ever had any ticks on us. I have contracted Lyme disease from bowhunting in Fairfield county in CT. Talk about a place with a lot of ticks!! I remember shooting a buck in CT in mid Sept. and when I reached down to grab the horns I actually jumped back from the deer. He still had his summer coat and thus very little hair on the ears. There were dozens upon dozens of ticks on both ears and some were the size of a pea. Down right nasty!!! If you spray your clothes with Sawyer's Permethrin you'll be ok. Just remember to respray them every two weeks especially if you'll be hunting allot.
  4. I believe you can shoot out to 60+ yards here. Park is in Staten Island. http://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/willowbrook-park
  5. I think you meant, all the yelling you'd end up hearing. lol
  6. REALLY? Good thing for him that he was hunting during bear season and not during 150+lbs bear season. BTW I've seen a lot of small bears pictured on Maine Outfitters websites that are smaller than 125lbs.
  7. Some questions are answered here... http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8371.html
  8. Let me start off by saying that I wouldn't bait deer nor any other game animal. With that being said your comment is another display of hunter's not being united. You say it is an insult however, it's a method of hunting that has been long utilized in other states and in Canada for deer. So by saying that it is an insult to the word Hunting, you in turn are insulting fellow hunters. We need to remember that is wrong for some, is very right for others.
  9. Hope you're upstate enjoying it rather then here on LI.
  10. You already know how I feel about your work. Glad to see you joined up over here.
  11. Well...I didn't actually see them. My das is up at camp and called me this morning at 10:00 to tell me there were two real nice 8's behind the house. That got me pumped for this upcoming deer season!! First bucks we've seen this year and hopefully not the last ones.
  12. Only one antler needs be 3" or longer for it to be legal.
  13. Really? No other input on a good taxidermist? Thanks for those who responded.
  14. Read through this thread. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/23540-question-for-lifetime-license-holders/
  15. I'm looking for a new taxidermist. Please post the name of your taxidermist and any pics of their work. Doesn't matter where your taxidermist is located because I will ship work to them if need be.
  16. You, and I, will always be flatlanders. I have my place 28 years and still a flat lander, albeit a liked one.
  17. I'd say check out anything in 3H and 3K. With AR in place for some years now, those areas are holding some good bucks. I hunt in both of these WMA's and they hold good populations of game in general.
  18. Being that all the bucks I've killed are typical, I'd shoot the non-typical. I need one!!
  19. He was able to print some licenses last week on the old yellow paper but he only had a couple of rolls. The DEC told hem to get rid of the yellow paper but he kept two for some strange reason. I guess he had a premonition of what was going to happen!! Town clerk had the same problem and she had thrown all of her yellow paper rolls out too. Oh well... I'll go to town hall down here next Thursday and try to get it.
  20. I'm up at camp and decided to stop by local gun shop to purchase my hunting license. I can't get my license because the new "camo" paper isn't working in the printer. There's a glitch in the system and NYS has been working to fix the issue for the last week and a half now!!! Didn't the state test the new paper on the older printers that these store owners across the state have? What a bunch of typical NYSDEC BULLSHIT!!! Sorry but I needed to vent!!
  21. Both my dad and my nephew received their licenses today. Anyone else get theirs?
  22. My nephew called the DEC and he was told it'll be a few more weeks!!
