  1. My trail camera went wacko, now I need a new one. The new ones are a 1/3 the size of my old one. Any good recommendations. Thanks Dave
  2. Have a wake to attend on Sat and Sun and burial on Monday Morning. Probably be up late Tuesday.
  3. Have a youth hunter interested in bow hunting. How much must he be able to pull to hunt deer?
  4. Shot a bear in 4W last year. Took it to the taxidermist to have head and gun rack made. Picked it up last week and inquired if they received many bear last year. They said they had quite a a few, then they told me that the DEC tags nuisance bears and have been releasing them in our area. That was a big surprise to me, anyone else know of this practice.

  6. Just surprised he didn't plug the the pipes.
  7. Guys, just checked the beavers dam and the water is still flowing. Water level is lowering, surprised the beavers didn't block the flow of the water. A few years back I saw 7 beavers in this pond one weekend and the next time I came up there were no beavers, whats up with that. Didn't think beaver would abandon all his hard work. Maybe the next time i am up he will stop the water. Any thoughts??
  8. Last few times i have been at the house I noticed the water level higher than usual. Plus we had about 2" less rain for the month. Then while I was mowing I the Lawn I saw the Beaver, a big beaver. So today I found the dam and pushed two, 4" pieces of plastic pipe through the dam. Water flowing out now. Hope the beaver leaves and doesn't repair the leak. Do you think this will fix my problem.?
  9. Stubby, not singling out anyone person but this site has a tendency to get off topic. In a heart beat. No matter the subject.
  10. Guys thanks for hijacking another post. Can anyone stick to the topic? Apparently not.
  11. So you do support the crossbow in some fashion. What do you consider elderly?
  12. Been in Florida for the past month and its a real gun friendly state. They have a right to carry hand guns. Both my brothers and two sister inlaws carry. Not a problem. My question is why is ever one's 1st amendment right all the same in this country but not the 2nd amendment. I have the 2nd amendment right in NY to keep my handguns in a sealed box only to be taken out to go to range or to and from hunting. For that right I pay $200 every 5 yrs. This just isn't right!!!!
  13. I know there is a lot of discussion on the use of crossbows. Especially those in the bow hunting camp. But that being said what about allowing those 60 and over given an exemption to use the crossbow all bow season. Seems we are making many exemptions for youth hunting but what about the elderly hunters who have filled the coffers all these years. They have paid their dues and should be afforded an exemption also. JMHO
  14. Well the bear I shot this season had been very tasty. So far I made a bear stew and a shepherds pie. There were no leftovers everyone couldn't believe it was bear meat. Even my grand kids ate every bite and seconds. My next meal will be bear roast. So all you guys/gals who were lucky enough to get a bear start cooking. You will enjoy.
  15. If you have friends or family in New Jersey you can have it shipped there and when you visit can pick it up. Even if you buy it from Sportsmans Guide. Have had same problem got e-mail from sportsmans Guide saying they will no longer ship on line orders to NY. Thanks Mario!!
  16. Whether you choose gun or bow economics are always a factor for some hunters. Especially if you live on Long Island and have to travel up state. You can expect to pay around $100 round trip for gas and tolls. While some hunters have no tolls and don't have to travel very far from home to hunt. Then there is lodging you have to pay if you don't have a place to stay, so it's not cheap. So the choice is how many trips are you going to make every bow or gun season? This may be a factor in whether you bow or gun hunt.
  17. Why do some people choose sides? I have no problem with gun/ML or bow/cross bow hunters. Some may choose not to bow hunt because of time off, work or Family or all three. Or the WIFE. Lucky are those who can get away to bow hunt that's my feeling.
  18. How about the same setup for the Long Island hunters get together?
  19. I think you could have handled it better, especially since you are leaving. You should have gone over there and given them hell. Their actions could have seriously hurt someone, should have called State Police or whatever Police Dept in your area.
  20. I think that gun hunter who also bow hunt. May have more opportunity to hunt than other hunters. They may live in an area that is inhabited by deer. Where some hunters live far from their hunting area and have only limited time to hunt. Say only one or two weekends a year. Some bow hunters may own their own land or belong to a hunting club giving them more access to hunt. So just the economics of the situation dictates that more hunters with limited time and access will be gun hunters. Unless you are retired then you can do what ever you want lucky for me that is my situation.
  21. Congrats, best partner you will ever have,
