  1. In my area his predictions for last year were was off.
  2. Keep at it Joe as long as you know there are big ones where you hunt. I once read you can't hunt big bucks if you don't have them to hunt. You can only hunt what's there.
  3. Besides beagles what other type dogs can you use to hunt rabbits? I have a lab mix that is real smart, is he too big? He weighs about 70# and is about 2 yrs old. Thanks

My Christmas shopping consists of writing checks. Nice and easy, no returns everyone is happy, especially me.

    Black Bear

Took one in 4W back in 1994 it was 234#. Have seen 2 since in the summer months but none during hunting season.
  6. You get my vote, we don't get much for our $200 renewal fee for our pistol permits in Nassau County.

Have been working on installing a new kitchen. Been at it for months now almost done. Had counter measured and new floor measured on Thursday. So that's all I can do till those two items are installed. Looks like after Thanksgiving, so I am free till then. Didn't realize how much you can spent on a new kitchen, but I needed to replace everything, down to studs.
  8. You bring up some good points. But remember some bow hunters are very sensitive.
  9. Doc, that makes a lot of sense to me, who are they really preaching to anyway? And why do the respondents have to validate themselves on how ethical, smart and what a great hunter they are. Just give yourself a pat on the back for doing the right thing. They never take bad or unethical shots always on mark, pass up 6pt, 8pt 10 pt bucks , Just how many bucks can one pass up looking for something better. I believe no one intentionally takes a bad shot, but it just happens. For many reasons which we have gone over and over again. Lets just hunt and be happy for the experience, we replay all the good shots we have taken through our life time and I am sure the bad shots haunt you also. You don't forget the bad ones and remember just the good ones. Maybe those bad shots make you a better hunter. MHO
  10. Reminds me of those guys in the movie Braveheart wearing their kilts and mooning the English soldiers. That's how I picture Pat launching beer nuts. Just remember the price for beer nuts is (under a buck) Good luck
  11. Maybe it was a bad shot during bow season and went off to die and the Bobcat found it. Nothing gets wasted .in nature.
  12. Thanks Pat first good laugh of the day.
  13. My hunting cabin has electric heat in every room, but I never use the electric. I have a wood burning stove and it makes the cabin nice and cozy. Love burning wood. too bad you can't bring any home anymore for my fireplace. DEC regulations firewood can't be transported more than 50 miles. But up state I cut split and stack my own wood. We have loads of blow downs to cut up for fire wood. I always go for the cherry first.
  14. Buck 315 how are the lumber these days wonder if it's worth having our property logger. We have Ash, Cherry, Beech, and Maple no Oak trees.

    No brow tines

Chief, thanks for the information it answers a lot of questions I had. So it they don't have brow times when they are 1 1/2 yrs old they will not have times at 4 yrs old. Thanks for the research.

    No brow tines

So you are saying it is that it is, and it can't be corrected.

Do you think that if we remove some spikes this year that would help with the genetics. As a rule we don't shoot spikes and small 4ptrs. Remember next year we have AR in my area. Just a thought.

    No brow tines

The deer that I see the most with no brow tines are nice size 6ptrs . they should have some indication of a brow tine but they don't.
  19. To all who have served our country past and present enjoy your special day. I salute you. US Army 1969-1971 101St Airborne Division

    No brow tines

We don't have many bucks running around our area so if we have the opportunity to shoot the one or two with no brow tines it could help. But it might be too late already they may be in rut doing their thing and nothing will be accomplished. Maybe culling won't work but it can't hurt to try.

    No brow tines

When ever I sit quietly and deer pass right by my stand and I know I can take them that is a fulfilling moment for me as if I took the shot. Because I know I could of but just didn't. Especially if there aren't a lot of deer around I have a tendency to let them pass. Hoping for more deer next year.
