You don't have to tell me I know the 3 pt rule and have been hunting in 4W for over 20 years. But some people don't, thats why I am worried someone might shoot the big 4 pt. thinking he might be bigger. If those guys broke the rules once they will probably do it again. Hope your problem neighbors get caught.

Hunt in the southern part of Delaware county in 4W, have Long Eddy address but we are in Delaware county. Thats for school tax , sullivan west school district. Hunting down here wasn't too good this year. But did manage to fill doe tag. Saw plenty of does in the fields but not in the woods near my tree stand. Saw couple of spikes and one big 4 pt that was bigger than a lot of 8pt i have seen. will be a monster next year if no one shot him.

How many days do you hunt during deer season? How far do you travel to hunt?
Dave replied to Dave's topic in General Hunting
Doc, I would say you are not a WW. -

Hope you had a successful season. -
Some WW's are just that they only have time to hunt on the weekends. Due to jobs, family commitments etc. Or just plain too far to travel from where they live, not like some who live close to where they hunt. They have more opportunity to hunt than the WW's, but that doesn't mean the WW's are all any less the hunter than they are. Some may be but not all..

That would be true if there was enforcement. The question to ask is how many times have you encountered a DEC officer in the woods? Or any where else during the hunting season. I have had only two encounters and they were traffic stops checking everyone who was hunting. That was over a 39 year period!! -
Had same experience saw plenty of does coming in and out of the woods. Not much action while on stand(treestand). But did fill a doe tag last week of season.

What is a definition of a WW? Is he or she a Local or Someone from down state? Or just someone who hunts on the weekend regardless where he comes from. Is he a land owner or hunts private property? If you own your land are you still considered a ww? Now lets talk about the Locals are they any better than WW'S ? or is it the locals on this site bashing the WW'S. Just something to think about. Remember we are all hunters, no matter when we choose or have the time to hunt.

The guys you are describing sound like locals to me not WW"s. I have had some conversations where the locals told us we only own our land when we are there. When we are not they own it.

Guys, I think we beat this topic to death. We should start a new subject to agree to disagree on. -

Blind trust given to any Gov't, institution or person is a trust misplaced. -

Doc, I don't agree with your statement that we should respect the law more like we must obey the law. Not all laws are just or fair so there is no respecting those laws, but we must obey. -

Just to make a point the sunrise and sunset times change by a few minutes every day. Also depending where you are hunting in NYS the times are totally different by just a few minutes. So how much does just a few minutes really make when hunting ? -

Who said anything about disregarding all the laws. Are you saying anyone who shoots a few minutes before or after legal shooting time is not a good citizen? They are breaking down the moral fabric of civilived society!! Doc, you are reading too much into this issue, what about common sense? I think you have gone off on a tangant. -

I think what is missing is common sense and the reality of what goes through the hunters mind when he sees a deer. If there is enough light to clearly see the deer even though it might be a few minutes before or after legal shooting time. They will probably take the shot. Most of these laws are guidelines for safe hunting. I know plenty of hunters that go into the woods at dark and leave at dark with no wrist watch. I have never read in the hunting manual that a watch was mandatory for hunting, or a pen to fill out your tag. And glasses to read the deer tags. Just remember common sense trumps all, thats what its all about common sense. Not splitting hairs over a few minutes. As hunters we are bigger than that, give your fellow hunter a break, we are talking about minutes. -

When you talk about compliance of our laws you should mention that the Gov't that makes the laws doesn't even abide by the laws they are swarn to uphold. So they are not a good example for us to follow, if they don't follow the laws then why should anyone else. -
I bought a bag type target recommended for cross bow. Got it at Gander Mountain in Middletown the Wednesday before gun season. It was called the Hurricane on sale from $69 to $49. I couldn't pull the arrow out of the bag, totally destroyed one of my 3 arrows that came with the xbow. Had to get my knife to cut away at the bag to release the arrow. Trying to remove the arrow which was buried in the bag but extending out the back of the target. I am 6' 1" and weigh 215 and couldn't pull the arrow out, even after standing on the target and pulling with both hands. After I used my knife to finally get it out the fletchings were almost offf the arrow. Anyone know of a better target?

You are right i got stopped on 206 heading to Roscoe. They checked all my guns and tags on my deer meat. That was the last weekend of deer season.
