  1. Yes the Bushnell 5 is the one I use. It's so user friendly that when I first got it within minutes I was up & running. I had no problem using it. I have heard different terrain can effect them but I did not have a problem. The only thing I learned on my own is when you first set it up the directions say to make figure eights with the unit to confuse it into taking your position fix. Dont be non aggessive with it. Flip it around and upside down. What this does is make the unit take a new position fix on where you are.
  2. My reason for purchasing the back track five was it was the newest type at the time. Honestly though for the type of use I got it for the back track three would be more then enough. All I need to do is get back home so if they made a backtrack two that would be enough !
  3. I have had a couple of the regular units and being of a different generation then the tech world.Soon to be 52 just recently purchased a Backtrack 5 and find it user friendly and very accurate. My purpose was for bird hunting with my dog in unfamiliar areas. The thing worked awesome. I would say for what you want to do a Backtrack 3 would be great. Either one in my eyes inexpensive & worked. Simple to use.
  4. My buddy has a Buck folder - he uses Dawn Dish Detergent and lukewarm water to clean his after gutting a deer... works wonders! That's exactly how I clean my Puma folding knife. For 25 years I had a folding schrade uncle henry. Which I still have but replaced and now currently use the Puma which in size is a replica of the Puma game warden. I love it ! Never had a problem cleaning either knife.
  5. Less hunters? Probably not for long because all I have been hearing lately is how good ohio is. Interesting though as we are only a state away.uote author=G-Man link=topic=3903.msg48995#msg48995 date=1299735853] short shotgun season a lot less hunters and need written permission to hunt private property even if not posted.
  6. Most places require four people minimum. But again it depends on the landowner. I think it's a great program. It's like 25.00 dollars to join and then they send you a list of landowners who are in the program. I did two different landowners and both worked out well. If you don't mind doing your own thing. It's great !
  7. I haven't been out to illinois in the past two years. But prior to that 7 yrs in a row. The prices would vary but most time 200.00 per day but I had some farmers that would go as low as 15.00 per day. You have to research the prospective landowner. we were lucky and got some good areas to hunt. My friends still hunt the properties. I could have killed a 130 class buck every year I went. Or at least had the oppertunity. Killed two nice bucks and then was holding out for a slammer. I think it is a great program.
  8. Very nice ! What do you think the reason is for ohio's success with deer ? Or has it always been good there just never talked about ? Congratulations !
  9. In my opinion this is what you do. If you don't mind doing it on your own. Illinois is an awsome place to hunt. You join Access Illinois. What it does is give you a list of farms that are in the program. I have done it and it works good. You interview the potential farmer. You want a farm that has a lot of woods not just fields & hedge rows. You get a good farmer and he will send you maps & most important references. Here is the site http://www.accessil.org Fixed the link for you. -WNY
  10. I have heard very good things about the muzzy. My hoyt shoots the wasp very good. Also I have never tried a muzzy. That would have been my next choice to try. I was extremly happy with the boss.
  11. Wasp boss also ! excellent broadhead
  12. You might try McCormick's Bag'n Season found in the seasoning isle of your local supermarket. They have stew, meatloaf, pot roast to name a few and these are the ones I have tried. Clean up the meat you got back from your butcher the best you can.Try to be left with raw looking meat. Any sinue should be clipped off. Unfortunetly when you take your deer to the butcher most times there is a power saw involved and in my opinion ruins the taste of venison. The only thing I do when using this product is adjust the cooking time and rely on a meat thermometer for the meat loaf or roast. Roast 148-150 remove and let set for ten minutes Loaf meat 156 " " Stew try to guess what time verses the amount of meat used.
  13. Anything is legal. But safety first as I am sure everyone knows. Most times the shots are wide open so a rifle may not be the best choice. We will be using decoys so a shotgun works best for this application. As funny as crow hunting sounds it can be a lot of fun once and a while.
  14. It's almost 10 days since a single crow post. I hope you haven't given up .I got a friend all excited about going and hopefully this weekend rain will clear some of this snow away. then I will dust off the old decoys and we will go. I plan on bringing a camera so I can post some pictures .
  15. I am sitting here laughing hystericlly !! I couldn't even write LOL ! beef& cheese ! To funny !
  16. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww!! Probably after a bad day of crow hunting !
  17. I would never eat them ! ??? You would probably get sick from them. At the very least the SRB's ! Translation for the SRB's = The sh#@' s real bad !
  18. It seems like there is a lot of hostility here between upstate & downstate. I myself have no opinion on either. At times each one of them anoy the heck out of me. But for me to call one worse then the other I can't do it.
  19. I wish I could post a picture of the old 750. I have only photographs and no scanner. The british bikes were popular back then.
  20. Your bike bring's back memories, my first new bike purcahse which was the second bike I have owned was a 1977 yamaha XS-750-2D Seeing your bike brings back memories. I now run a H~D superglide and love it no less then my first bike which I purchased in 1976.
  21. I was watching the discovery channel and I bet you wish you still had the old bikes you mentioned. They are worth a lot of money ! I had friends I road with in the same time frame you speak of maybe longer ago that rode both the triumph and the Norton's. Norton 850 CamandoDo you remember the triumph trident ?
  22. Remember they are pretty smart. I don't think anyone had mentioned that in earlier post's . Probably because we were all to busy smiling and laughing just thinking about what fun crow hunting can be. LOL! We would camo our selves good in either man made blinds or under a white sheet this time of year. They have great eye sight . Have fun ! good luck !& keep us posted.
  23. Today while I was outside I heard some crows and looked up as they flew over. A big smile came to my face just thinking about hunting them. Last night when I answered this thread was the first time in yrs I had thought about hunting them. Actually it brought a smile to my face a couple times today just thinking about the good times we had years ago. Its one of the hunts that your invloved with the whole time from set-up to calling to letting the lead fly. Anyone who goes bring the camera !
  24. We would hang an owl decoy from a tree branch and have the crow decoy's around it. We would put out a bunch of decoys from what I remember. Make it look like the crows got the owls number. That was a lot of the fun setting up the decoys. You will find you are generaly laughing your butt off during the whole set up. Good Luck ! safe shoot'n
