Hey Guys, it was definitely great meeting everyone and competing against a great group of guys. I'm the guy that had the Limb break on the Mathews. I brought it to Smith Point Archers and the guy said that's the first time he's seen anything like it. It was definitely scary and glad that thing didn't explode. I'll find out today what the deal is. In any case, it was a great time with good people and would definitely do it again. If any of you guys wants to get together for a hunt this fall give me a ping. I usually head out alone since none of my buddies hunt so it would be great to hunt with you guys. Thanks again to John for putting this together and bringing everyone to this event, it was definitely worth it. Your Friend, John (a.k.a jpolihro)

Relatively new to coyote hunting and was wondering if anyone was interested in hooking up for a coyote hunt upstate. I live on Long Island and wouldn't mind taking a ride for the day to hunt coyotes upstate (I don't own any land so it would either be on state land or maybe knock on some doors to get permission). None of my buddies hunt yotes so I figured I'd reach out on here to see if anybody wanted to get a hunting partner for some yotes. send me an email [email protected] Thanks for any advice John

You guys put some great videos out there, keep em coming. -
Thanks Rich, maybe i'll head out for some fox. I have Distress calls that should bring them in, I just wasn't sure if anyone had seen them during the day here on the island. I live in Coram which is close to Rocky Point and Otis Pike, I was thinking of checking out some Rocky Point Fields.

Excellent, thank you guys for the info. Night hunting sounds like it could be challenging and it seems like hunters would have better success with predators since most move at night.
-
Yeah that's what I figured. I think I'd have better luck heading upstate and hunting coyotes. Thanks for the heads up.

Has anybody done any racoon or fox hunting on the island? I know it's shotgun season for deer hunting but I plan to hunt only on weekends. They say night hunting is the best but I don't have the time to head out there at night. Curious to see how difficult it may be during the day.

You need a red spot light for night hunting correct? I've never gone night hunting before. I'm assuming you spot them with the red spot light and then light them up with a regular light for the shot. I don't have a night vision scope on my .308. Do they get spooked very easily with the red spot light? Is it easy to shoot through a regular scope at night when you have the light on them? Curious to find out how this works. Thanks for the help. John

Wow, 3 feet of snow sucks to move around in. I would definitely invest in some snow shoes if we got that much snow. We normally don't get too much snow and when we do it's usually gone in a couple of days. This year we've gotten an exceptional amount of snow and it just so happened right before we headed to Sterling. i won't be able to get up there next weekend since I'm going skiing but after that I think most of the snow should be gone and I'll be out there again. There are a few valleys that I would like to try at Sterling Forest for some yotes. I keep hearing that they are all over the place out there.

Yeah, that's a good idea, I have to look at google maps and see where there may be farms that are somewhat of a close ride from long island. If anybody has any suggestions on which towns in Orange or Putnam counties may have some farms worth asking it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah Sterling Forest seems to be the best bet with over 17,000 acrest to hunt on that's that closest state property to where I come from (Long Island). We plan on venturing out there for some more yotes after the snow's gone. It's too tough to navigate through there now with all the snow.

I was told by the DEC that Cranberry is a good spot for Coyotes which I don't doubt. I think the problem is that there is limited parking and you can't post anywhere without having somebody walk by you and ruin the hunt. I think that being that it's so close to the city, a lot of people head there for the day and it's not a large parcel of land. i guess the best time to try that peice of land is when the conditions are horrible and nobody wants to go outside. I'm sure it's great for small game hunting but as far as posting for either deer or yotes, I don't think you'll have the peace and quiet you'll be looking for. I may be wrong since I haven't been at Cranberry for years but from what I hear, there are too many people in those woods for you to do anything but hunt for birds or rabbits.

Hey Dave, I'd head out there with you for Squirrels, I have a .22 that I would like to try out at Sterling. When we went, we were targeting yotes and noticed some deer tracks on the way in. We noticed some small game tracks as well but we didn't hike too far in since the snow was too deep. I'm sure we would have some luck with squirrels out there, there's a lot of land to hunt out there and the only way to get familiar with the spots is just to go out there and check out different areas.
