I would always be sure to be on my stand from 1000 am to 2:oo pm for that very reason....Hunters got cold and had to move...Or they heard a shot in the direction of thier buddy Joe and decided to check on him..Or they went back to the truck for lunch, etc....They moved a lot of deer and I shot my share around mid day on high traffic days like upening day first Saturday, and Thanksgiving Day...

Sitka blacktails were the next target on my list back when I was doing out of state hunts.... Unfortunately, age and $$$$ ran out before I made that hunt.. They are supposedly the very best tasting venison of all the NA species..They also make beautiful mounts because they have IMHO the prettiest capes of all the deer species...

Another possibility is rust in the chamber from shooting plastic shells...Scrubbing the chamber with a bronze brush and solvent might save you a trip to the gunsmith..

Sounds to me like you have issues with the extractor, probably due to wear from years of use...Any competent gunsmith should be able to replace it...Good luck...

It is very popular in Europe and Africa... As Lawdwaz said it' ballistic equivalen to the .280 Rem and I can attest to the effectivness of that round, having used my .280 to kill everything from woodchucks to Alaska bull moose over the last 40 years... -
