  1. I hunt state land that borders lake Ontario in the northern tier near Henderson Harbor. The hunters there are respectful to each other but the land tends to be littered with trash. I can't say who is doing it because hunters share the land with hikers and campers.

  2. I am pushing 64 and feel myself slowing down.

I hunt, (alone) about 3 times a week and sometimes wonder if I shot a big buck just how would I drag it out of Cicero Swamp alone.

Most of my hunting is for deer but would like to try the wild boar hunting down near Cortland.

When younger I did a lot of rabbit hunting with a Beagle but just don't see many rabbits anymore, just the ones in my back yard.

I feel I enjoy hunting more now, life is sweeter.

  3. I was hunting near Mexico, NY opening day with a couple inches of snow. Saw a few deer tracks, only a few shots off in the distance but no deer in my area. Fighting a bad cold with lots of coughing today but will be back out hunting Monday assuming I feel better. At 63 I need to take care of myself plus I don't enjoy hunting in the rain anymore. It is hell to get OLD!

  4. Hi Guy,

I have hunted some in Cicero Swamp, mostly on Island Road. I see a lot of tracks and see deer at night in fields when I drive near the area but never shot a deer there. I think the deer are nocturnal in the swamp.

  5. Thanks for the replys and your thoughts. As mentioned, my slug gun with the rifled barrel is my main gun and it does shoot a good sabot slug and most likely is the "cylinder" like Pygmy said. I have this other gun with the full choke and want to take a new hunter out with me. I will take it to the range and shoot it this week and let everyong know how it shoots a Foster slug.  ;)

  6. I have a older 20 gauge shotgun, 2&3/4" chamber with a full choke smooth barrel. Can I shoot the regular "Foster" type slugs with the full choke? My new gun with the rifled barrel I believe is improved cylinder choke and I use the new sabot slugs in it. This older gun I am asking about is a backup / rainy day gun. Thanks, NYDeere.

  7. I have a question on muzzle loaders. I have 2 of them, a new in line and a old cap and ball type. My question is: Can I shoot the new maxi-ball and sabot type bullets or do I have to use only round balls with granual in the old gun?

    Thanks, NYDeere
