Snow on the ground this morning finally. Im on doe patrol, well see what happens. -
If you look at land maps in NY vs KS you will see the average acreage owned is significantly less here in NY. Much much smaller tracts available. Kind of an apples to oranges comparison.
-
Yeah. A lure mixed with human scent on boots can spook game.
-
I just posted why above ^^^
-
Not the peak rut. Sure there are does in estrus now and more to come but its few and far in between. Works for a cover scent I suppose. I have seen it spook deer too.
-
Not this time of year usually but when i do i make sure to walk a ways out in front of my stand so the deer dont walk straight to the ladder.
-
The Big Game stands i have the bar adjusts up and down.

You have more patience and confidence than I!

Muzzleloader season is usually quite productive. Most people are done hunting and deer are back to food on the mind.
-
Good point.

Yeah yeah yeah. You sound like my wife

Why on earth would they move from 7am to 5pm legal shooting time?! We need to get back to that.

I agree 100%. They could pay all the taxes on the entire farm and send me on an alaskan vacation, still wouldn’t allow it.

Looking for recommendations on Yote setup

i use a handheld scanning light and kill plenty. Doesn’t take near that kind of money. Fun for a hobby but no where necessary. I use a shotgun with an extra full choke and federal 3inch copper #4 buck. 50 yard setup. -
I wouldn’t say they take “no practice” thats absurd. Reminds me of people who have never shot a handgun and think the can stack holes on paper at as little as ten yards. Doesn’t happen, lucky if they can even hit paper. By the way ever try recocking one 15 foot up in a ladder stand? Compound is exponentially easier to reload for a follow up shot and virtually silent.
-
I would be very happy with that outcome.
-
Resulting in crossbow use for the whole bow season?

About time!

Not exactly. I’d much rather have it cold deer don't move much when its so warm. -

Nice fat spike there for sure. Congratulations! I’ve been there myself, hard to put a buck tag on a spike but you cant eat the horns! -
Please don’t separate. So hard to find decent tracts of land in NY anymore.
-
Like grand pappy always said. Land, they aint makin anymore of it! Id keep and improve. If there is pressure from the state land the deer should be pushed to your side and stay if hunt it right and on a limited basis ( best days only). As G man said access is crucial. Prices of land has skyrocketed around me, that could cost 3-4 hundred thousand around me to replace it it’s decent property. Could be more if its tillable.
