court support yeah right

So are we now back to working within the system. The hopeless picture you keep painting of "the system" sure sounds like that is not an option. I do remember a similar discussion about a year ago or so, but as it was left, it sounded like you were ready to pick up where Terry Nichols and his buddy Timmy left off .... lol. -
Yeah, hope you all are having a great Easter Sunday. Weather here will be good for all the Easter egg hunts. And remember, those little round brown things under the bunny ........ Those ain't eggs!

I hear a lot of that kind of talk, and it makes me curious as to what you have in mind as a solution. Once you have decided that our system of government is not up to your expectations, what do you have in mind to replace it with. Anarchy? Some form of benevolent dictatorship? Or just decade after decade of civil war? Honestly, in your vision is of revolution, just who would you hand the reins over to? Would that be some revolutionary government. Perhaps Castro's version of a revolutionary fix. Have you ever really thought that far or does your thinking start and end with the commencement of armed insurrection? Just curious. I know it's rather easy to gripe and whine and talk of how all is lost, but I really wonder what actual solutions that you have and what that world would look like. -
Defending his rights or avoiding taxes?

Perhaps the government is sucking up the land, and to some extent, some of it may be justified. Quite frankly, when it comes to state and national parks and public hunting lands, I am very happy that they have made those purchases and maintain the availability of those lands for public use. As far as any commercial use of these lands that is reserved for a few businessmen, I guess I don't really see why a few should be afforded that kind of subsidized resource. Of course that is the view of an outsider who has no history with such transactions. Perhaps somebody does have some logical rationale for granting a selected few such profit options. I guess I would like to hear some of those reasons. -
My thought is that they might be rather delicate over time. You really can't beat aluminum. They will last longer than you will if properly mounted on a separate board and attached to mature trees.

Lousy Meal At The ..........................................
Doc replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm sure that kind of service and product would have warranted a conversation with the manager. While these guys should be able to spot these problems on their own (that's part of their job), you may be doing the establishment a favor by bringing it to the manager's attention. -
That's a good question. Is that situation educational or traumatic for the little ones? Perhaps it is something that starts out traumatic but can be changed into something instructional. I'm not a great one to handle these kinds of things, and seldom really know exactly the right thing to say. What age is it appropriate to introduce a young impressionable child to the violent facts of life as they occur in nature? I don't know.

Generally, I will file away bad service and food and see to it that I never go to that place again. Not my wife. If the food is bad, she'll send it back to the kitchen with a demand that it be cooked right. If service is slow, she'll let the waitress know about it. If it's bad enough, there is a request to talk to the manager. -
Sure, bluegills are great for the kids, but some of us old kids like to fish for them too ..... lol. Put them critters on the end of a flyrod, and you're having instant fun too. I still drag out the old bamboo pole and head for the lakeshore once in awhile too. Guess there's a little "kid" in all of us.

Look at that smile!! Is he having fun or what? Where's YOUR ear protection? ....... Wha-a-a-t??

That is one awesome lens that you've got there. What are you using?

All any of that shows is that who ever wants to call it whatever, has some correct justification for their opinion regardless of where they want to categorize it. And neither is right or wrong. Making these kinds of comparisons serve no purpose other than to try to justify whatever opinion you want to argue for. It is all great if you want to perpetuate the controversy for some weird reason, but is very unlikely to change anyone's mind. It only serves to stir the pot and antagonize and divide hunters even further. The time for that kind of nonsense is over. Everybody had their say, and exerted as much pressure and influence as they could, and it is now settled. Really, to carry on this nonsense further is getting tiresome and as pointed out has a foolishness to it as well. Call it whatever makes you feel good and try to begin burying the issue.

Firearms discharge law in Wayne County
Doc replied to Don't Panic's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Did you check for a town web-site? Most towns are on the net now and should have contact info and office hours. -
Nope, the rank and file, average anti-hunter that I have run into still relies on emotion for their opinion. The little old neighbor lady and the average city dweller have never really taken the time to become sophisticated or learn any real facts about what they are talking. They still come out with that, "How can you kill such a pretty innocent animal?" crap and you know it. And so I have no problem giving it back to them since that is the only thing that they understand. And by the way, none of that has to violate the truth. Mother nature is a cruel game manager. I still say that while you are boring them into a coma with facts and figures, I can have them at least understanding some of the real facts of life according to Mother Nature. They listen to that kind of crap. Treating them to a lecture of science only results in them getting that blank stare with their eyelids half-closed. And when you have finished and they finally regain consciousness the first thing they will blurt out is, "But, how can you kill such a pretty innocent animal?" As far as Belo's thread title, I think it was spot on. That picture does evoke feelings of one sort or another in most of us. I personally found the replies interesting.

We have to use all resources at our disposal. We have the court system and the electoral system. It's not an "either/or" arrangement. we have to use them both. We needn't get all wrapped up in any defeatist's attitudes, but concentrate on using the tools that we have. -
Ha-ha .... these threads drift and evolve all over the place, especially after the page count reaches 3 or 4. It usually turns out ok, because after that many pages, the original topic has pretty much burned out anyway, and the thread has morphed into several other topics that are also interesting. It probably is true that it would be more productive to start new threads when the originals start wandering to the extent that this one has. But anyway, it is kind of comical just how far away these threads can travel .... lol.

There's a few TV programs that will really give you an idea of how bad some restaurants and bars can get when it comes to service and food quality .....lol. Yeah, I know these are heavily staged, but most of what goes on in these programs are things that I have seen happen, to one extent or another, in some restaurants over the years. Usually the tip-off is the parking lot. If it is full, usually the service and the food is good. -
Why is it so difficult to understand that a crossbow is its own "type of weapon"? Everyone tries to cram it into this category or that category. It has elements of other categories combined, but when you come right down to it, a crossbow is a crossbow. It's not "like" any other weapon. Just like a spear is a spear or a knife is a knife or a slingshot is a slingshot.

Firearms discharge law in Wayne County
Doc replied to Don't Panic's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It's time to go down to your town hall and become acquainted with your town clerk. If she/he is anywhere near as good as ours, they will know more about town ordinances than the supervisor, town lawyer or anyone else down there .... lol. If she/he can't quote the local law right off their head, they will know exactly where to access it. These people are amazing sources of info for all things local. Everything is right at their finger-tips. -

And while we are at it, this "Message of Necessity" nonsense really needs to get some reins on it. Who knows given that the Governor has all these little legal goodies at his disposal, maybe the ruling was correct. They have made all this crap so complicated and with so many legal loopholes, that when it comes to constitutional Law, I doubt there is any of us who is qualified to have a credible opinion on this part of the action. Absolutely we had to challenge it in the courts, and we must pursue any other legal avenues. Just as sure as I am that almost all of us have no clue what-so-ever as to whether illegal or unconstitutional acts have been perpetrated, none of has a clue that they have not either. No, the court challenges are a must. HOWEVER, the most important process that has to be used is the election. And I don't want to hear all the "quit before we get started" whining. Just do it! Nothing comes with any guarantees except it is guaranteed that nothing will change if we all just sit in the corner sucking our thumb and whimpering about how all is lost in this country. -
Finally! Flippin Onondaga County is the worst!!
Doc replied to Fletch's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Even 8 or 9 weeks is way more than it should take. I mean it's not like they have to build something or ship anything. It is simple clerical work, and I really can't believe that they have a constant daily flow of these permits. They are simply dragging their feet ....... because they can. It's harassment, plain and simple, and I am sure that is exactly how it has always been intended. -
Actually, there is nothing here that does not apply to anyone who owns land that is remote from his residence. Fighting trespass is the same whether you own the land or lease it. You have to go through the same processes. The fact that you don't live there makes it a lot tougher to enforce. But really, there's not a lot you can do about it in a practical sense. You can post the hell out of it to advertise your intent, but as far as enforcing trespass violations, that is an entirely different matter.

It sounds to me like the NYS pistol permitting system is intended as a harassment feature to try to discourage private ownership of handguns. Likely, it is serving the exact function it was intended for. -
Is there someplace on the internet that outlines all the final changes in license structure and pricing?

Well actually, I have found that "big-bad-wolf syndrome" to be part of the most effective pro-hunting argument that can be used. When anti-hunters begin their savage barbarianism comments about hunters, the most effective way to put it all in perspective for them is to point out that hardly any of the critters die peacefully and quietly in their bed from old age. It is true that in almost all cases, the death from a hunter's bullet is a whole lot more humane that Mother Nature's alternatives. There's nothing wrong with pointing that out. Yes, it is a departure from the cold hard facts and stats of population control that we usually rely on, and yes it is playing the emotionalism card. But while others are throwing people into a coma with their facts and figures and statistics, within a few words, I have shut some of these guys up and sent them away with a new emotional viewpoint to chew on. Emotionalism is very powerful tool that has been used against us for decades. Sometimes it is good to throw some of it back at them....lol. I know that is way off topic, and not really the point you were aiming at, but your reply did seem to be a great intro to a successful style of fighting antis that I have been using for a whole lot of years and figured might be of use to others.
