court support yeah right

I am very glad that I don't have to make that decision. I am basically a law abiding sort for the most part, and when people start flashing that big "felony" word around, that does tend to get my attention. I don't think I would fare well in prison or with a criminal record, or with the confiscation of all of my guns. Even if the possibility of conviction is slight, I probably would comply and as they say, "live to fight again another day". I choose my battles carefully ..... lol. -
While I will admit that I have no idea what a "Hunter Authorization Card" is or what it's purpose really is, I am always in awe every time I read about all these special restrictions that NYC has come up with. It's like a completely different country down there .... lol. And for the citizens of the rest of the state, all I can say is watch these NYC encroachments very closely because our elected officials are trying very hard to roll all these ridiculous restrictions onto the rest of us.

The most important thing to a politician is getting re-elected. That transcends even their ideology and principles. That's what makes the election this fall so important. Our state legislators have made an assumption that the gun lobby is too weak to be a credible threat to their employment ...... Hence the support and votes for the Safe Act and the direct in-your-face challenge to the gun owners. What do you think would be the attitude toward gun legislation in the future if all of a sudden they saw a significant number of their pro-Safe Act buddies come up missing after the election. We could send a message that would last for decades. Of course the other side of the coin exists too ..... What do you think the attitude toward gun legislation would be if all these politicians that voted for the act go absolutely unpunished. That will mean that the gun lobby is neutered and an open season on the 2nd Amendment can be declared..... guaranteed. We can do all the civil disobedience that we want, and the politicians who create these anti-gun laws will continue to do so without risk. The only risk is taken by the gun owner with that slam-dunk confession to a felony sitting in his closet. -
Where do I buy this Permethrin? Does it go under some other brand name? Would it be in a drug store or sporting goods store? How about Walmarts? Are these ticks active all year around, or just during warm weather months?

That is because you are leaving giant gaps in your logic. You are telling me that government is an evil thing that is completely out of control, as in: "Doc, someday you will see all of these "resources" have already been corrupted to the point of being tools of the government used for oppression." Now if you really do believe that, I don't see any alternative left to you but armed revolt. So which is it? Are you for working within the system that you claim is corrupted beyond actual use, or are you for trashing what we have, crossing your fingers and hoping for some miracle that restores a more representative and just government. I don't know maybe there is some third alternative that you are keeping secret, but I don't see it in anything that you have said so far. -

I guess I take a little more realistic view of things. I'm kind of a "nuts and bolts" guy. I can listen to all the doom and gloom of how things are, but at some point, I like to hear about what we want and exactly how we are going to get there. So my simple question for those of the Rambo persuasion is how do you get from where we are to where you want to be? With things as hopelessly broken as we often hear, the only direction left is through armed insurrection. So again, back to the nuts and bolts of the situation, which one of the militia groups do you trust to make it all nice again? And why would you trust any of them anymore than the supposed leaders that we have now? And how do you know that the revolutionary talk that they are pedaling is for true positive change vs. using revolution as a self-serving tool to set up their own version of total power and corruption. That's kind of the first thing that runs through my mind whenever I hear all this falling sky talk .... "What's their angle"? That takes a whole lot of trust to throw the baby out with the bathwater and place the future of the country in the hands of a few crazy revolutionaries. After all, we saw how well that all worked in Cuba....lol. -
Yeah, you're right. I guess we do spend too much time trying to psychoanalyze every little thing that a kid eventually gets faced with. It has been such a long time since I was a kid, that I can't even recall my reactions to these kinds of scenes .... lol. Like I said, I never was real great at handling these kinds of things with kids. Do it with humor? ...... That probably would be my approach too......lol.

NYS law maker perks
Doc replied to genesee_mohican's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I have never seen a "poor" NYS legislator, so I wouldn't spend a whole lot of time worrying about whether their pay and other perks are depriving them of anything.....lol. They're doing just fine. -

Lol .... that was quite a stretch. I mistakenly thought you actually had something worthwhile on the subject that you were trying to say. -

But they do such a fine job. Imagine all the work that goes into fleecing taxpayers out of their hard-earned bucks. See, during those other 6 months when they are not actually working, they are busily working on schemes to raise taxes, increase frivolous spending and figuring how to screw with your freedoms. Don't tell me these people don't work very hard at their job. It takes a lot of effort to screw people over the way they do. And they're damned good at it! -
Lol ..... I used to buy a whole bow for that price, and a damned nice one too. Good thing we are headed for a cashless society, or we would be needing a wheelbarrow to carry our money just for shopping. It's getting so that the maintenance on these bows is costing a pretty hefty percentage of the purchase price. That price sounds a little high. Not a lot, but a little. It's not a cheap thing to do anymore.

Instead of talking about the deer "jumping the string", I guess it would be the deer "jumping the spear".

So are we now back to working within the system. The hopeless picture you keep painting of "the system" sure sounds like that is not an option. I do remember a similar discussion about a year ago or so, but as it was left, it sounded like you were ready to pick up where Terry Nichols and his buddy Timmy left off .... lol. -
Yeah, hope you all are having a great Easter Sunday. Weather here will be good for all the Easter egg hunts. And remember, those little round brown things under the bunny ........ Those ain't eggs!

I hear a lot of that kind of talk, and it makes me curious as to what you have in mind as a solution. Once you have decided that our system of government is not up to your expectations, what do you have in mind to replace it with. Anarchy? Some form of benevolent dictatorship? Or just decade after decade of civil war? Honestly, in your vision is of revolution, just who would you hand the reins over to? Would that be some revolutionary government. Perhaps Castro's version of a revolutionary fix. Have you ever really thought that far or does your thinking start and end with the commencement of armed insurrection? Just curious. I know it's rather easy to gripe and whine and talk of how all is lost, but I really wonder what actual solutions that you have and what that world would look like. -
Defending his rights or avoiding taxes?

Perhaps the government is sucking up the land, and to some extent, some of it may be justified. Quite frankly, when it comes to state and national parks and public hunting lands, I am very happy that they have made those purchases and maintain the availability of those lands for public use. As far as any commercial use of these lands that is reserved for a few businessmen, I guess I don't really see why a few should be afforded that kind of subsidized resource. Of course that is the view of an outsider who has no history with such transactions. Perhaps somebody does have some logical rationale for granting a selected few such profit options. I guess I would like to hear some of those reasons. -
My thought is that they might be rather delicate over time. You really can't beat aluminum. They will last longer than you will if properly mounted on a separate board and attached to mature trees.

Lousy Meal At The ..........................................
Doc replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm sure that kind of service and product would have warranted a conversation with the manager. While these guys should be able to spot these problems on their own (that's part of their job), you may be doing the establishment a favor by bringing it to the manager's attention. -
That's a good question. Is that situation educational or traumatic for the little ones? Perhaps it is something that starts out traumatic but can be changed into something instructional. I'm not a great one to handle these kinds of things, and seldom really know exactly the right thing to say. What age is it appropriate to introduce a young impressionable child to the violent facts of life as they occur in nature? I don't know.

Generally, I will file away bad service and food and see to it that I never go to that place again. Not my wife. If the food is bad, she'll send it back to the kitchen with a demand that it be cooked right. If service is slow, she'll let the waitress know about it. If it's bad enough, there is a request to talk to the manager. -
Sure, bluegills are great for the kids, but some of us old kids like to fish for them too ..... lol. Put them critters on the end of a flyrod, and you're having instant fun too. I still drag out the old bamboo pole and head for the lakeshore once in awhile too. Guess there's a little "kid" in all of us.

Look at that smile!! Is he having fun or what? Where's YOUR ear protection? ....... Wha-a-a-t??

That is one awesome lens that you've got there. What are you using?
