  1. Here is the response I got from my U.S. Representative, Chris Collins (district 27): Thank you for contacting me to express your thoughts about gun regulation. I appreciate hearing from you. The shooting which took place in Newtown, Connecticut, saddens us all- without question it is a tragedy. However, we should not use it as a pretense to weaken our Constitutional rights by denying people the right to own firearms. Law-abiding citizens should not fall victim to additional laws and regulations, which will have no impact on reducing crime. I strongly support the Second Amendment and the right of an individual to protect themselves and their families. I will keep your concerns in mind as we discuss how to prevent violence, while remaining true to our core values embodied in the Constitution. Thank you again for contacting me about this issue. To receive important updates on my work in the 27th district on New York and in Washington DC, sign up for the E-newsletter on my website at www.chriscollins.house.gov. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of assistance in the future. Sincerely, CHRIS COLLINS Member of Congress --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember that Obama is still trying to sell his version of the attack on the 2nd Amendment. There are still senators and congressmen to be influenced. so keep on cranking out those letters, e-mails and phone calls. If you've already done so, do it again. Make it clear that we are serious about any further harrassments of law abiding, gun owning, citizens. Do not let your silence imply apathy.
  2. Pav- I'm not sure what you are envisioning the end result of a controlled burn to be. If you are looking for all plantlife to be removed and a nice field in it's place, I don't think that is the usual outcome. I have seen full out raging forest fires that don't do that. Generally what is left is a whole bunch of woody spikey trash sticking up all over the place. But, what is accomplished is a whole bunch of good nutrients are added to the ground. And guess what ...... those muti-flora rose bushes and wild raspberries and all other kinds of brush with all those "pokey" things are the first and most healthy things to pop back up. They just love it and thrive on the new additions to the soil. So the burn is just a partial step to getting control back from the man-killer plants that love to tear you up. So, you might want to think about how to handle what's left after the burn, and then make sure you have the equipment and time to finish the job off or you might wind up with a worse mess (but a very healthy mess ..... lol) than you presently have. Do you have any pictures of what the vegetation in this area looks like? Are there saplings scattered through it? ..... Trees? ..... vines? ...... Any open areas inside (goldenrod and such)? Is it the kind of thing that a good heavy bush-hog could handle? Is the ground dry, swampy or maybe even too wet for finish clearing and fitting and food plot equipment? How big is the area that you would like to open?
  3. I suspect most of them are beginning to see the error of their ways. They have all faded into the background and don't seem to have a lot to say these days. Now it remains to be seen whether or not they man-up, recognize they were wrong and join in the fight against this law and any future incursions into our rights (soon to come from the Feds).
  4. All they have on their web-site as of this morning is: "New PA location Coming soon". My guess is that it is an additional store, but that is just a guess. New gun law or not, their current location is a true gold-mine.
  5. Back in the mid 60's we used to operate a commercial NFAA target range, and we put in a few more roads and trails leading from one target to another all the way up the hill and through the course. Those roads and trails make good ATV trails and that's how we get food water and supplies up to camp. But the trail that I use the most is an old horse trail that they used to use for logging, and farming the top of the hill back in the 40's. The hill is damned steep, but the roads tacking their way up the hill makes it pretty easy on an ATV, or tractor.
  6. I never really cared a whole lot for him until everybody started whining about him. Then I started to pay attention to what he was saying. Yes, the guy can be a bit crude and abrasive. But he sure does know his facts, and can really hold his own with any of the anti-gun fanatics. We need more people like that. By the way, I never did care for his music. That kind of screechy, shrieky, screaming, rock is what drove me away from rock & roll and started me listening to country ..... lol. Doesn't matter though when it comes to him stomping anti-gunners. That's something he does well. But really, what is this arrangement between him and Piers Morgan? They seem to be a regular item on TV now. Of course Nugent mops the floor with Morgan every time, but that just keeps Morgan's ratings up.....lol.
  7. Here is my hunting camp that my Brother-in-law from Canada and I used to use. I had a set of bunkbeds, a couple of easy-chairs, a table with chairs, propane lantern, propane stove, kerosene heater, carpeting and a sink (had to bring in water with ATV). Oh yeah, and a portable TV and radio powered with a car battery (the only electricity) It was a lot of fun until NYS priced him out of hunting down here anymore. Now it is starting to get a bit run-down from lack of use, but still affords some shelter on top of the hill when the weather gets bad. It's almost a mile away from the house and accessible only by walking or ATV. Well, now my hunting camp is back at the house ....lol.
  8. I suspect that this may only be a part of a story. I'm not saying that that site is not reputable, but I would like to see some confirmation from a few other sources before I get too excited. There may have been a few details left out or unavailable when this story was written. It sounds a bit hard to believe.
  9. All the comforts of home .... ha-ha. That really looks nice. Next summer, get some pictures of that beaver pond and some of the surrounding area. I think at one time we had a thread about pictures of hunting camps, but it seems to be long gone now (at least I can't find it). It was interesting to see all the different styles of hunting camps that people have.

    D-Loop

It looks easy enough to do, but I have not yet done it. So I would say, follow the instructions provided in this thread. If you can't do it, keep trying or take it in and have it done. I have always used the metal D-loop and for the first time had the rope put on when I was having a string replaced at the archery shop. By the way, do not resort to using the metal D-loop. I used one for years, but I did finally have a failure with one of those.

  12. One of the most effective things you can do is to keep the issue going. Letters to the editor in local papers are always good. Also, the time may be right for another round of letters to your state and federal legislators either thanking them for their "no" vote, or reminding them that they have lost a vote for the ones that voted for that trash-law. Don't let the issue fade into oblivion. The worse thing that can happen is for us to become consumed in apathy. Also, keep in mind that Obama has yet to crank up his effort to stick it to gun owners. Contact those federal representatives and let them know how you feel about further gun legislation.
  13. I would love to see pictures of your camp and surrounding views. I always like seeing those kinds of pictures.
  14. I don't know ..... something is changing. I've been noticing a lot more mainstream media reports that are showing a sympathetic coverage toward gun-owners. Along with that is coming a negative slant against cuomo and the way he bulldozed his gun package through using legally questionable tactics. That is a bit shocking, because that is not typical of the media. Something is going on that is changing minds on the issue. And then too, there is this massive enrollment in the NRA. That's unusual and unprecedented. I think there are signs of a grassroots mindset shift. No it's not anything that is going to show up right today to immediately reverse the cuomo gun-owner harrassment. But it may stop any future activities of that sort. His popularity ratings took a huge hit over this, and from what I am reading the negatives are not just coming from gun owners. With a little bit of effort at election time, I think we have a chance of bouncing a bunch of these anti-gun jerks. If that happens, you will see the anti-gun forces crawling back under their rock. Nothing makes a bigger impact on changing their principles than threats to their votes..... lol. However, the fact still remains that if we are going to eliminate the cuomo "Gotcha" legislation, we only have one route and that is the courts. That's all I see on the immediate horizon. Anything else is just idle talk and posturing.
  15. You know what I would like to see is some of the pictures from the east end of Lake Ontario. i have heard of some of those 4' snow dumps, and it would be interesting to see some of those late winter accumulations with house entrances included. I can't imagine how people get around in those kinds of snow depths. Anybody got a couple of pictures of that?
  16. You're right. A troll can't survive without someone taking the bait .... lol. It's time to just let it die a nice quiet natural death.
  17. I'm not sure what you are expecting. A County Board of Supervisors will not be advising illegal activity and I would be scared as hell if they did. I only mentioned their resolution to show that at least one county (so far) is not afraid of taking a political stance in favor of gun rights (something that takes more political courage than you will ever imagine). Law suits do not happen within a couple of weeks, at least not any that you are hoping to win. If we are defeated due to impatience and rushing headlong into it without proper preparation, there likely will be no serious follow up. Given the fact that we don't have an unlimited treasury like the state does, and that only a small percentage of gun owners actually put their money where their mouth is, we do not get unlimited opportunities to fight this in the courts. I suspect that it is a one-shot deal. So time and care better be taken to make it a good one. Let's not be demanding that our law enforcement agencies do what we know they cannot do. Law enforcement agencies are bound by the laws that they are enforcing. Things are happening, but in a logical organized and legal way. There are legal procedures for doing this. Yes, we are all impatient, but demanding unreasonable and unlikely activities and responses will not hurry up the process.
  18. Sorry, I just have a dislike for trolls and their mentality.
  19. It would appear that perhaps some of the gun owners are starting to wake up and understand that anti-gun activities are more than just a theory. We can thank our anti-gun fanatics for stirring up the awareness. They had been successfully making their advances by slow, quiet, behind the scenes activities, and they decided to take advantage of dead children to engage in a new round of bold activity. In the long run, that may prove to be their undoing.
  20. Not that this fits the description of "concrete action to restore the gun rights we lost to Cuomo's new gun laws", but I would simply like to proudly proclaim that my County Board of Supervisers (Ontario County) is in the process of drafting a resolution opposing the passage of the NY Safe Act. It doesn't really mean anything other than to show Cuomo that not all areas of government have turned on gun owners. I did read something the other day about the NYSPRA law suit Dinsdale mentioned in his reply. I want to caution you not to expect the legal action to fly through as quickly as Cuomo slipped it to us with his anti-gun "Gotcha law". We have to grind it out in the normal, legal fashion.
  21. No problem there .... I've finally figured out that you are simply a troll that gets some kind of weird kick out of coming on here, plunking down your playlist of favorite anti-gun/liberal links just to see what kinds of reactions you can stir up. So I just take them for what they are and don't even bother accessing them. Your little disclaimer really should be updated to reflect the truth. We all know what you are. You've shown your stripes here just a few too many times to offer up that line.
  22. I believe that if they were "in plain sight", like laying on the seat or somewhere else where the cop doesn't have to root around in the car, I believe that discovery under those circumstances is allowed.
  23. And now a touch of reality. First of all, there will be no overwhelming refusal to register. Are you kidding? .... we can't even get everybody together on a simple letter-writing campaign. You can't even get all hunters to agree that this was a bad law (look at past threads here). These are gun owners you are talking about. The overwhelming majority don't even belong to the NRA ..... lol. Second, the number of people who own these guns are relatively few in number and will be no problem handling and prosecuting them one at a time. Also, in relative to NYS population, the number of AR owners is absolutely tiny. Third, what person in their right mind is going to make it so that they don't even dare take this super expensive weapon outside to shoot it? Maybe it is a lot of fun owning an expensive rifle that you have to keep boarded up in the house walls. Are you going to be the first to risk felony prosecution and risk obtaining a legal felony status where all the rest of your guns are illegal to possess? Fourth, don't be acting like our only options are illegal ones. We have not yet begun to take the fight to the courts. Come on people stop sidetracking from real solutions with all these pipe-dreams. It's time to get behind some real solutions instead of all these feel-good schemes. But if you have a burning desire to become felons ..... knock you socks off
  24. I'll tell you what is scarey is this guy's skillful use of every underhanded way of operating. This slimey way that snuck this gun law through and then the "window-dressing" meetings he is orchestrating around the state that nobody knows about until it is impractical for gun enthusiasts to attend. It's all show-boating to show how diligent he is about making sure everybody understood the law. Or another way to look at it is that he is having fun showing the gun advocates how it is going to be for them in his state. He does seem to be a master of political dirty tricks the only difference is that his dirty tricks are not just aimed at opponents, but they are even more aimed at constituents as well. This guy is a real slime-bucket and even if I had nothing to do with guns, I would be scared to death of somebody that loves abusing his power as much as this creep does. His slippery tactics can be used on more than just gun owners. There is some signs that more people than just gun owners are starting to catch on to him.
