  1. That sounds like a plan. It is a dug well, and I just put a little sprinkle in and put the rest in the pool. Hopefully it doesn't take too much to flush it out.
  2. So I'm hoping I didn't screw up too badly... I had been noticing that the water coming from our backyard well that I use to water the garden was pretty rotten smelling, and when I opened the lid, I saw that I had some unlucky critters that had fallen in. I pulled out a variety of small rodents (about 8 total) out last week. In an effort to clean up the water a little bit, I sprinkled just a very little bit of pool shock (I mean a super small amount). The good news is that the water no longer stinks, but after watering the garden the other day, I've wrinkled up one of my rhubarb plants pretty good and the peppers are a little wrinkly too. I remember seeing soybeans do something similar when getting hit with a witches brew back in my ag days, and they would usually pull through. I'm a little apprehensive to use the well for a little while until the chlorine has cleared out. I'll keep an eye on the plants and water from our house tap for the next few weeks. The tomatoes and cucumbers seemed unfazed, so that's a good thing.
  3. Stopped a DSG in Wilton to pick up a few boxes of .22. They have .22lr, 30-06, 6.5 Creedmoor, 30-30, .308, 9mm and some 12 ga slugs. Not a lot of anything, but it was there as of 3:00 today.
  4. I know we’ve got a lot of Dads on here, and just want to wish you all a Happy Fathers Day. It’s the hardest and most rewarding job I’ve ever had, about to get more difficult and spectacular with another coming this Fall. I hope all the dads out there have a great day!
  5. This story is too good not to share. We have been having a little mouse problem at my office over the past month, and we’ve really been having a hard time killing the little guys. This morning I was talking to my Secretary, and a mouse ran out and sat right in front of me. I reached for the closest throwable object, which happened to be a stuffed Garfield doll I keep in my bookcase. I nailed him, first shot. Took him outside and threw him in the bushes, saw him laying on his back with feet in the air and thought I was done with it. This afternoon I was speaking with a colleague in her office and another mouse ran out into the hallway behind some boxes. I grabbed my trusty Garfield, moved the box and got him. I stepped on his head, and took him outside. As I go outside, I see about half a dozen people who are volunteering for early voting crouched around the not so dead but not so good mouse from this morning, and someone said “If he still here when we are done, I’m taking him home”. I couldn’t bring myself to tell them that he was mortally wounded by a plush Garfield, but after I saw them leave outside the window I went out and finished it. They’ll probably go home thinking he moved on to bigger and better things. Not bad for a Friday.
  6. Yeah, I've been looking a little more since I posted that, and they range from $3000-10,000 for that tractor. That's a tough call to make. You might be able to call a local dealer and ask what they would value it at.
  7. That is a great sized little utility tractor. I don't know much about the value, but judging from the link below, they've been selling for around $4000-6000. https://www.auctiontime.com/listings/farm-equipment/auction-results/list/category/1100/tractors/manufacturer/john-deere/model/955?ecid=7
  8. I've got a big TV box that I've been hanging onto for over a year, just incase I needed it (which it turns out I do). I figured I'd get it close at 25, and then move it back to 75 and try to get it just over center from there. I certainly don't want to burn any more ammo than necessary. I'm not shooting competition, I just want to be able to trust it to kill a deer. Thanks for the advice.
  9. I plan on taking my newly acquired Remington out this weekend to our 4-H range and sighting it in. It’s a .300 Savage, and with the 4x scope that’s on it, I’d like to be able to count on it out to around 150yds. My problem is that my range is maxed at 76yds to the berm. Is it even possible to feel comfortable that it will be in the kill zone at 150 by sighting at 75?
  10. The current camo production ones (I don’t know which the Gunbroker one is) show up for a little over $1200 new, but I couldn’t find any listed in stock anywhere. https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting-gear-gun-supplies/modern-sporting-rifles/browning-bar-mk-3-mossy-oak-break-up-country-semi-auto-rifle/p/p52839
  11. It’s high as all firearms are right now, really, it’s more than what that gun should cost new (though I don’t know what the scope is worth, but I wouldn’t think that much). However, you’ll be lucky to find a new one in stock anywhere, especially with being so specific on caliber. I just hope these crazy freaking prices level off and come down at some point. Like my Uncle Tom used to tell me, something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
  12. I love the mule ear lock. I’d like to get one someday. That and an underhammer.
  13. I looked really hard at that one. I ordered the Ameristep 2 Man Chair Blind from Amazon. If I don't like it, I'll be returning it and probably getting the Care Taker. The reason I went with the chair blind is the small footprint (being able to tuck into scrub) and the fact that I carry the chair in and out with the blind.
  14. I’ll keep any eye out for any for sale. The auction here in Ballston Spa has them come up for sale every once in a while. Nothing this month, but I’ll let you know if I come across one in .243.
  15. I’ve never shot one, but the BAR is supposed to be a darn good gun. I’ve handled a few at auction, and they feel pretty good on the shoulder. Like anything that JMB designed, it’s a classic. It probably is going to cost more than either of those Remmy’s though.
  16. It's a safety lock/bracket. https://ruger.com/products/_locks/5035.pdf
  17. So after looking around a bit, I'm kind of intrigued by this chair blind. I'm really don't mind something that I need to carry-in/out, and this looks pretty simple. My biggest concern is that I'm a big dude (6'4"/250) and I'm not sure how roomy it is. I'm just looking for something for gun season. I'm thinking about ordering from Amazon so I can return if it doesn't work. Has anyone used one of these or something like it? https://www.amazon.com/Ameristep-1-Person-Hunting-Break-Up-Country/dp/B083LXZJRW/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=chair%2Bblind&qid=1623780555&sr=8-2&th=1#customerReviews
  18. I bought my dad a Kissing Crane Hobo knife for Christmas. For a Chinese knife, it actually looked and felt pretty good. He specifically said that he wanted something "cheap" in case he lost it. I'm sure it works fine and the bone looks really nice, but it's nowhere near what Airedale has in that Case.
  19. They're pretty bad here in Saratoga County. The pool filter is picking up a lot of them. Fortunately I'm not noticing a ton of canopy damage, but I'm sure there is some.
  20. I updated my information using the epass. Pretty simple, and I have it if I need it.
  21. I could do it next week sometime if you can upload the files somewhere I can access them.
  22. Great looking knife Al!
  23. I'm really looking more for a gun blind. I have a few good spots for my climber during bow season, but the deer seemed to be holed up in the scrub during gun season. I found some really good sign during a winter squirrel hunt that made me think this was the case anyways. Plus, I wouldn't mind having the wind break when it gets cold I think I'm going to just keep an eye out for anything that goes on sale over the summer, and in the end if I have to shell out the $70 for the doghouse, then so be it.
