  1. I appreciate your reply. I do think there is a middle ground, and that is that we both want what is best for our country. We may not agree on how to get there, but the place to start is there. The key is compromise, which is what this country is based on. If you read the founding documents of this nation, the founding fathers agreed on very little, and I mean very little. The commonality is that they believed in America, and were able to find compromise. None of them got everything exactly how they wanted it. They gave some, they got some. And shoot, not everything worked. That's why America is looked at as a grand experiment. I don't think any of us are too separate when it comes to what we agree on either. I mean if someone were to hand us both a ballot about gun rights, "Yes" or "No", there is no doubt that we would both vote the same way. The difference comes with perspective and priorities. Those all fall to just being different people with different lives in different situations. I also agree with you that the Republican party doesn't have a bad message now that I think about it, but I really don't believe that Donald Trump is/was the right messenger. Like I've said before, I don't think everything he did was bad, but I just couldn't bring myself around to him because of who he is. Like it or not, I can't help how I feel about this. I also don't view the right as a bad thing, far from it. Like I said, I pray for a healthy Right party and Left Party. I always tend to fall towards the middle, and I always appreciate a viable center-right or center-left viewpoint.
  2. I just don't see it, I mean how would this even work? In the Civil War, we had neighboring states secede and set up their own government, and establish a native territory. Do you think that there are enough people on the extreme right, even in the south for this to happen? The only other option is that separate groups of individuals band together with their hunting rifles and try to overthrow individual governments. What then? Do they then raid the homes of people who don't agree with them and force them to accept the "new" government? Where does the leadership come from? I just don't see any of this working outside of small terrorist-type attacks being justified with political ideologies. Honestly, if Conservatives in this country want change, they need to develop a message that resonates with the majority of Americans, and work within the system to show why their way is the the best way. It wasn't that long ago that George W. Bush won the popular vote. However, since the establishment of the Tea Party, the conservative movement has been bending to the extreme part of the party, and disenfranchising middle of the road Republicans. The only reason they haven't lost more to the Democrats, is because Democrats have been bending more to the extreme left, I just don't think as much. This whole "compromise is surrender" mindset is really dumb and doesn't do anything to help Americans. It only plays well with the extremes, and I hope that elected officials realize this. I pray for a healthy Right party and Left party that can debate policy and come to agreements that help the citizenry. These threats of a grand revolutionary civil war sound great, or terrible depending on who you are, but when people won't take off of work to go to Washington D.C. for a Trump rally, I don't see them packing up and moving to the "Conservative States of America" to take up arms against fellow countrymen. It's a fantasy. Additionally, I hope that everyone just quit feeding the extremes, everywhere. There are "patriots" and "progressives" who sit behind their keyboard spouting their loud opinions, but really just like the attention they get from strangers on the internet. Nothing productive can come from engaging with this minority of people. You will not get anywhere with them, and they will drag you down. I have started that with this forum, including blocking members who continually show that they refuse to accept other perspectives, and only drag conversations into the mud. I say, just let them scream their nonsense into the void.
  3. I think for the most part, the legacy of Donald Trump has been cemented. I know there are a lot of people who like him, and for very valid reasons. However, the 2 defining moments of Trump's presidency will be the handling of the COVID pandemic, and tragically January 6th, 2021. Like it or not, these two moments in history do not shine brightly for Trump or our country...
  4. Beautiful guns. I’m a sucker for a take-down.
  5. All I can think about watching people try to defend this.
  6. I'm a singer in a country cover band. Most of what we do is "modern" country, and it is often mind numbing. Most of the popular songs are stupid, poorly written, and just overly boring. I'm fortunate that we do get to cover some older stuff, and sprinkle in some classic/southern rock. There are some good modern artists out there, but you really have to dig for them. I echo your choice in Willie's Roadhouse, I spend most of my time listening to that channel.
  7. It's funny, I've been following him for a while, he writes some good country songs. When he first came on the scene, he was clean cut, and they tried marketing him as an artist. When that never went anywhere, he went to the long hair and strong Georgia accent. If you listen to his early stuff vs. his new stuff, you wouldn't guess it was the same guy. Regardless, the dude's a talented writer. There have been multiple times I've read replies to this thread and thought "Well doggone, would you look at that, that guy has an opinion that I don't agree with", and then let it go, because, "they might wear out my nerves, but they ain't changin' my mind".
  8. This song keeps running through my head, especially the line: "Hotdog your opinion is louder than mine. You might wear out my nerves, but you ain't changin' my mind. Good God, let's hop off the soapbox and get along".
  9. I’m watching the congressional sessions now, and my God, the change in tone in Washington is astonishing. For the first time in years I have hope that we can move past the vitriol that has separated us. I really hope that this holds.
  10. My wife and I are watching the resumption of the Congressional proceedings. I think a lot of these Senators have realized that they have played a dangerous game, and today it came to a head. I really hope that the silver lining to this is that both parties give up the outrage and move towards collegiality.
  11. Not laughing at all. When my Outback gives out, I’ll be shopping for one of these. Good mileage, AWD, and enough bed to haul a deer and a climber.
  12. I don’t know who is paying him then, but he certainly does get around. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wavy.com/news/national/horned-shirtless-man-at-the-capitol-demonstration-identified/amp/
  13. As well as a Qanon supporter and well known right wing protester. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.azcentral.com/amp/6568513002
  14. Doesn't really do anything for fuel economy, but I have always liked the Chevy Avalanche. My drummer has one, and he loves it. It has plenty of towing capacity, a bit of bed space if needed, but offers a good amount of covered cargo space for his kit. You could probably find a good used one in your price range if you shopped around a bit.
  15. I'm pretty sure the mob would have strung Pence up, seeing as Trump's last tweet before the riot was this: "Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!" It is just amazing to me the impact that 1 man can have on people, both on the right and the left. I never would have thought it would be so easy to manipulate massive amounts of people. I say this as someone who, while not being egged into political violence, have at times been brought to a mindset that I am not proud of because of him.
  16. I think I would stick with 50 for the 20 gauge then, and a little high at 50 for the ML. However, if I had the room, I would extend the target out to 100 after sighting in to make sure that I don't have as much drop. The nice thing with a ML is that you not only can play with the sights, but see if you can get a flatter shot by adjusting the powder charge.
  17. It really depends on your situation. I never used a scope, so my comfortable range with my shotgun was always around 50 yards, and my muzzleloader is 75 yards. I sighted my 12 gauge smoothbore (I don't think you can "zero" a smoothbore) for 50, and my muzzleloader for about an inch high at 50. Obviously this would change depending on if you're sighting in a rifled or smoothbore barrel, and what kind of sights you are using. Also depends on the distances you are usually shooting. Effective range is a whole other question.
  18. I hope not, I sincerely hope not. I hope no one expects me to take a side, because neither of these extremes represent what I want for my country.
  19. Do they each get 10 years? Freaking insanity. I've said from the beginning, Donald Trump often brought out the worst in good people, and invited a lot of the plain worst people along for the ride. We see that today.
  20. I love the story, thanks for sharing. I'm glad you guys made it out okay. I never did coon hunt, really by the time I came along my dad had given up coon hounds for beagles, and so I covered a lot of ground "handling" a lot of dogs when I was a kid, which meant I got to chase the old men's dogs through the briars My dad told me a story of going on an overnight coon hunt with his grandfather when he was a kid. He said they knocked out a coon, and set up camp, where his grandpa cooked a meal of boiled coon. He said it was the most disgusting thing he ever ate.
  21. So I’ve decided that I’m going to start whittling, and am looking for advice from “experts”. I’ve read quite a bit, and watched several YouTube videos, but am really left with 2 questions: 1. What is a good all around whittling knife? 2. What is the best “first” project, and what is a good “second” project? Is anyone on here a whittler that can help me out?
  22. Man, that is a great deer! Congratulations!
  23. That is really cool, I have never seen one like that.
