  1. I wound up with a little bit of "birthday money" and decided I was going to treat myself to a new knife. After shopping around online a little bit last night, I came across what looked like a pretty good deal on a Case Folding Hunter at TSC. They even had it at my local store. I placed the order for curbside, and went to pick it up this morning. When they brought it out, all they had was the knife, no box, paperwork or sheath (which it was supposed to come with). I went ahead and took it and when I got home I called their customer service and explained what happened. Long story short, they called the store, which was totally uncooperative. So, customer service issued me a gift card worth almost what I paid for the knife (short by $4) and told me to keep the one I purchased. So, I ended up buying another nice LE bone Trapper online with the gift card. All in all, I came out pretty well on the deal. Here's a photo of the Folding Hunter, way bigger than anything I carry (my Case Cheetah is there for scale) but a really nice knife all the same.
  2. You even have to be careful when calling them back or answering. Some of those numbers are set up like collect calls, and you can get charges on your bill for the call. Best to just hang up. They are very irritating.
  3. Welcome Dan! What class do you pull in? I used to take all of my FFA kids to nationals at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville every year. It was really something to see the big boys pulling indoors!
  4. Really? I had no idea, I sold that gun like 3 or 4 years ago on gunbroker. I sold it to a guy for CT who was going to bear hunt with. I believe it was the outfitter. It was a nice shooting gun. Do you know where you saw it at? I’d like to make sure it’s deleted.
  5. I had a Marlin 444. Never hunted with it, but it was a nice firearm.
  6. I had a nice sit from the ground this morning. I tucked into the top of my climber with a thermos of tea. I didn’t expect to see much, and was disappointed that the forecasted snow was all rain, but still was a pleasant morning. I saw one deer, I couldn’t tell what it was, too far away and running. I talked with the landowner this afternoon, and he said he came across a couple of guys who don’t have permission to hunt doing a drive while he was out fixing fences. I’m sure the one I saw was pushed out by these 2 guys. I also found a stand that I don’t think belongs to the other guy that hunts the property. The landowner is going to check, and if it’s not, I’ll have a new stand. It’s disappointing the lack of respect that people have for landowners and other hunters. I’m going to sit out the rest of regular season, and try to get back out pretty heavy during Muzzleloader season. I’ll have an either sex and an antlerless to fill.
  7. I don’t think there’s any doubt that it’s a buck, just further out than the other photos you shared.
  8. I’m really thinking about heading out when it’s light enough to see tomorrow, but before hunting hours (sunrise). The spot I have is kind of hard to navigate to in the dark, even with a flashlight, and I think I’d cause less of a ruckus by going in when I can see where I’m going. Legal shooting hours aren’t until 7:12 anyways.
  9. Tomorrow morning I'm going to try something different. Where I'm set up currently there is a big ridge, and I'd like to cover the top of the ridge, as well as the wet valley below. I tried to find a tree to climb on the edge of the ridge, but I just couldn't find anything that allowed for shots in both directions. So, I ended up putting the upper part of my climber on a tree and am going to hunt from the ground (sans blind). I did try to brush it in a little bit, but with all of the leaves off, I feel pretty exposed. It's been a long time since I have hunted from the ground, but I guess I'm hoping for a blind buck that is dumb enough to come through after me trouncing around this morning. I did find a fresh scrape on a trail along said ridge, so that's a little promising. I kept going back and forth about staying in my tree from this morning or trying it from the ground. I figure the worst that can happen is I don't see anything, which honestly, I have gotten fairly used to...
  10. Congrats on some great deer! I finally saw my first deer of regular season this morning, but unfortunately it saw me first. A doe came from straight behind my stand, which is the only obstructed view I have from this particular tree. It had to have been darn near right under me when it bolted, certainly took me by surprise. Oh well, I don't have an antlerless tag right now anyways. It was just nice to know that there are still deer in my neck of the woods
  11. One of these days I would love to hunt the ADK or Catskill mountains. To this semi-flat lander from Illinois, it seems like a totally new challenge. Great video!
  12. Probably the last one of the year. Burning up some of my junk wood and sticks from around the yard.
  13. I’ll be honest, I love hunting the morning, there’s something about getting up before everyone else, listening to old country music on the drive in, sneaking in in the dark and watching everything kind of come to life. I know that’s corny, but it’s true. However, I have taken far more deer on afternoon excursions.
  14. That’s a beautiful gun you have there, I hope you get to use it on something!
  15. I leave it on all the time during gun season. I don’t see a real reason to take it off.
  16. I went ahead and blew it out last night when I got home and cleaned it. I’d rather know that I have a fresh charge in there if I get a shot. Thanks for the advice!
  17. I haven’t seen a darn thing in 4 sits. It would be nice to just see one.
  18. We are starting potty training tomorrow, so I’m sure this is a leverage move on her part. She knows what she’s doing...
  19. I’m in a tree at 3:10. Later than I would have liked, but had a good thanksgiving lunch with my wife and daughter. I was pleasantly surprised when my wife had no issues with me going hunting tonight. It’s warm and foggy, but I’d like to see something.
