  1. Completely legal if your outside of 150’ if someone’s house you don’t have permission. Many houses are mostly vacant after September...I think sometimes discretion is best. Unless you have a point of contact with a neighbor or know they may be open to it sometimes better to not raise any eyebrows. As someone else said wether you like it or not it’s being hunted out here. People are complete savages.

  2. Fellas,

Not trying to hijack here, but I'm planning on doing something similar this season. Thinking of going up in late aug/sept to camp for a few days with my wife and do a little scouting and hiking then head up in rifle when they get some snow. Thinking of either sleeping in back of my truck (have topper) or two man tent. Also thinking of getting a Delorme satellite messeger/tracker if things should go sideways or to just stay in touch with home. I've been focusing on west Canada wilderness in my topo/satellite research. I guess because if it's size and remoteness and also some of the trailheads seem way off main roads and shouldn't have a problem being away from others. Just wondering if this is sound reasoning? Should I be looking in other areas?

  3. I'll keep the thread going for all you upstaters. Trying to fill the freezer today on the island. Hunting with the bow as the shotgun process for public land is a bit of a drag and most of the deer are pretty hard to find after first week or two.

We'll set up on a great travel route as evidenced by snow and really fresh scrape. Wish me luck I'm already out of backstraps!

  4. It's hard to tell down here. In my experience I think he's 3.5. But I'm just guessing

For reference this 8pt from right in the same area weighed next to nothing. Maybe 120lbs dressed tops. So assuming he couldn't have been 1.5 i guessed him at 2.5.

I saw this deer for the first time Monday night walking into a field at dark, so quickly set up a trail cam on a scrape line where I guessed him coming from. As you can tell they seem to go nocturnal after 1.5 down here and seldom show up in daylight.

  5. 1C

Sat on a bedding area stand from 12:00-3, hadn't seen squat so I decided to high tail it down the road to another spot that rarely produces bucks in daylight but sq some chasing in the distance there last evening. Snuck into my favorite doe stand in an island of woods surrounded by a green strip of grass. Was set up for about five minutes, gave a bleat call and a few minutes later out pops a shooter. Heads right into field in front of me and to my left a bit and feeds for about five minutes quartering heavily to me at 30 yards. Shaking like a leaf, thinking it should be a chip shot when he starts feeding up the lane and turns broadside. Ofcourse he has other ideas and starts heading towards the scrape in the middle of the island. Have to spin around and and change my position so I have a chance between the tree limbs. He catches my movement before I can draw. I hold and he takes his eye off me just enough to pull back and let it fly. Rushed the shot a little but watched the rage hypo and gold tip xt hunter shaft do a complete pass through.

Waited an anxious 40 minutes. Blood was good. Bubbles. Walk up a hill and can see him lying just inside wood line. Monkey off my back!!

Clipped the top of both lungs! He couldn't of weighed more than 120lbs dressed. Looks to be only 2yr old. But non the less my best bow buck to date. Couldn't be happier
