  1. Looks like a good area for a sanctuary, if it is thick that sounds like a good idea. If I was to set up a blind in the area it would be way before bow season. Putting something on the ground 2 weeks before rifle in an area you want to protect sounds detrimental to what you are trying to accomplish and the deer would pick it out like a yellow taxi parking in your driveway! If you want to stick with two weeks before I would use a stand, much less obtrusive. Otherwise I would use brush and make a permanent ground blind well before the season starts.
  2. Welcome aboard, happy to have you!
  3. We thought it was you! lol Well happy B-Day to the real Jeremy K, whenever that is!
  4. Great way to obscure you property from the prying eyes of poachers! Also gives the area some shade for other brush to start growing.
  5. LI Waterman You can access this area from Moose River Plains also, took two of my bucks from this area. Great place to start and it's remote, not many hunters and very few deer in many spots. Bunch of other spots you can try but this is one of the larger tracks of remote land in the southern part of the ADK. If your interested give me a PM I can offer many choices and additional options. FYI: I set up a camp in Moose River, this year I will go later possibly the 20th of Nov, if you want to try this area I have a few remote locations for you to try. You would have a life line in case of any issues or if you shoot a brute and need help getting it out. The boys always have extra food so a free meal is always possibility if you make it up. We like to bring hunters back to our camp and feed them while telling stories of past hunts. Great bunch of hunters and just really good people I have meet over the years in this area! Sodfather you also have the option if interested. Depending on the time, I might be solo so you would have a base camp to start from if interested. I set up a big wall tent. 14-16ft with a 10 ft extension for cooking. Usually I am in for 2 weeks and only have hunters with me for a few days, usually 4 or 5 days is the most any other hunters stay.
  6. Media is very liberal and basically hate him. I ran out of likes Rattler or you would have gotten more! I understand him using twitter but like stated he needs to realize he is addressing the entire world not just some upset followers that want to bring him down. Like stated before he needs to ignore many of the moronic things the media will post and get to work making this country great again. Let your actions speak more than anything you post! He could start with a huge infrastructure plan to fix our much needed roads, bridges, DAMS etc. This would also bring many jobs and broaden the workforce.
  7. Sounds like another show that is mostly made up. At least alone you can see that they are solo and really have to do everything themselves. Saw season 1 and 2 on the web, interesting how some get their food and deal with the mental challenges of no human contact. I think with 2 people it would be much harder to evade than if you where solo, most jail brakes or people on the run tend to go solo as a second person can slow you down and give you away. I would probably get caught posting on HuntingNY.com web site, I can't stay off that site!!!
  8. I am lucky it was not worse! Car is totaled. Cars can be replaced. It could have been much worse if I was not on the brake immediately after he hit me. On a lighter note I am now thinking about a larger vehicle, I just feel safer in them. Thinking about a full camera system as well, just easer to say look at the video tape then have to explain all the details after getting knocked around like I was. Lucky for me it just seems to be some pain issue when I stress my back and neck. As a computer geek I am lucky in the fact that most days are not labor intensive. Thanks for all the support!
  9. Looks like your canopy shades the area of the blind making it blend in better, awesome!
  10. Make a float plan, solo trips are fun but letting someone know when you expect to get out of the woods is imperative to your survival if something goes terribly wrong. Calling them when you get out lets them know you are ok. No call gets help started your direction. Float plan on car/truck in envelope allows rangers to know where you plan on staying in case they do need to find you or send rescue, should be on the windshield under wipers in waterproof zip lock bag. GPS location device if you really go back far, past 7 miles is what I consider far from any road. Calamity can happen at any location, if you have health issues or are prone to getting hurt this piece of tech is a life saver in an emergency. Maps water proof, compass 2, GPS, fire starters, proper gear for the time of year, bug nets if early season, tent and sleeping bag, mat. Knife, rope, cord, flash lights, binoculars and good boots! Enough food to last more than you plan on staying. Peanut butter is excellent choice for extra food, takes little space, provides great energy and can last a long time if needed. Water purifier is much lighter than packing in water or drinks a couple of larger Gatorade bottles work well for storage after you drink them. The early part of the trip is most dangerous! Reasoning is that if you go for a few days or more and something goes wrong the first day, you have over a week until anyone even knows you are in trouble sometimes, be safe! Consider bringing a friend on your scouting trips, it will allow him/her to have a insiders view on where you go and what you plan on scouting. I would stay away from using the water as a mode to get in unless you are familiar with boating, falling in the water can kill as the water is so cold and very dangerous if you overload the boat. As a beginner I would not go very deep in the woods to start, the more experience you get the more comfort you will have at going in deeper. Remember you have to get the game out! NFA - Good Luck and be Safe! Keep us posted on your progress, wishing you the best of luck! Moose River Plains has a large area with many locations to do this. If this spot interests you let me know, I have a bunch of spots you can try out. Indian lake as mentioned is another location that has many great spots and is a bit closer to civilization. Dan Ladd has a book out on locations to hunt, I have not read the book yet but hear it is a wealth of information. It is sold out now but I think you can still order it. This one I need simply for the valuable data it provides! http://adkhunter.com/books-dvds/
  11. Deepest sympathy, so sorry.
  12. Happy B-Day Rupert! They truly are mans best friend.
  13. Often people realize they are sick and tired of being polite and or politically correct. Big guys I mean really big guys often do this along with older people that just do not care anymore what anyone else thinks about them. Once they determine that they do not care, no filter is applied to the mouth! My best friend at about 8 years old told the adult neighbor to basically go to hell, SHOCKED as a kid that age I realized this guy had no filter, to this day he will tell you to go to hell if he does not like you! With strict parents you can imagine why he became my best friend!
  14. In the years to come people will ask why our society went down the tubes and why the new generation has issues with personal interaction. Simply put these people are addicted to their phones and technology like no other generation was. We are basically breading mindless self centered individuals with limited ability to think for themselves, until they check the internet!? Just like the protesters for the pipeline that left the place they are trying to protect with more trash than it started with and say they are trying to save the planet? Mindless hypocrites that really have very little knowledge on protecting the environment. Unless you want them to protest and trash the area they fight to protect. How about you try and clean the rivers in your area? No they would rather protest online then actually help with any current issues! Sounds like we are breading liberals, lol. Not really that funny though as they will be running the country in the coming years. Time to start prepping, lol.
  15. Sure after the deer season is over we get SNOW! Looks like a good one so far about an inch or so on the ground here in Huntington.
  16. Nice shooting!!! Game wardens rock! http://www.grindtv.com/wildlife/lucky-shot-game-warden-frees-two-deer-tangled-antlers-video/#7jFqgpMDcTLpIFKe.97
  17. Trying to get step #1, when I get to step two I will call you!
  18. Safe Act is a simple ploy at trying to grab more guns and to satisfy the liberals that we(The Gov.) are doing a great job at protecting you idiots. This will stop all the crazy people from getting a gun and doing a rampage like Sandy hook. And if you believe the last line your ignorant and believe the state will protect you. We do resist this change that allowed us to protect ourselves. Just read the last part and you might comprehend why we disagree with the safe act! A well regulated militia, being the best security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The safe act did exactly what the second amendment stated was not allowed, and we will resist until the end.
  19. Well I had a great deer hunting season but ended on a low note. With 2 weeks left in the season I was determined to hit the woods hard with an extra 5 days to take off and key in on a few good area's until this happened. Just driving with the flow when this jerk tried to pull into a parking lot from the left lane! Guy did not see me at all and slammed me off the road and actually landed in the parking lot on my right side! ARG!!! So now I get to wait for approval on Meds and physical therapy, joy. Lucky for me I can take it easy as the pain was very sharp when present. Not that I could not hunt at all but trying to drag out a deer when my back and neck are strained would have been problematic to say the least and I did not know if I was getting worse as time progressed so I bailed on the last two weeks for self preservation and pain management. Was hoping for a decent buck with antlers to start my year off on the right foot, that got shot down. Sometimes the only luck I get is bad! Hope things get better from here! Arg! Goodbye little Scion, you where a good car I will miss you!
