The game in the area I was hunting was amazingly abundant! Nice mixture of farm and woods! Some big bears!

November 4th we will look for a camp site, the guys will stay for a few days, I will probably be solo after that. How long depends on work, weather, and I still need a truck so possibly a rental.
  3. I use Long Island bow hunting as my prep for the ADK woods. Still looking for a truck and have a whole bunch of other things to do. Starting to feal the itch!

Good to see you (fasteddie and airedale) are still here! Hope you both are doing well! We had a good time talking deer, I have to try to keep it on a timeline. (I can talk deer for hours!) I check my hightlight notes then basically do it by memory and try to cram as much in as possible without overloading them. So much to cover in a three and a half hour period.

Well it has been a few years since I actually posted on here. I just finished a seminar on deer hunting for new hunters at our archery club. Sad as I handed out multiple flyers to all the bow/gun shops in the area and try to spread the word. Even after handing out over 150 flyers only about 20 people showed up. So sad to see so few showing interest in hunting. Good news is the few people who came to the event seemed very happy about what we taught. Just wish we could get more interest! We lost some good people over the last few years in our camp and did not make it up last year to the big woods of the Adirondacks. Previous year (2021) was a disaster to say the least! Trying to keep the camp life going and we are planning on going up again to Moose River Plains as we typically do and see if I can get one of them into a deer this year! Hopeing I can get one of my hunting partners to shoot the venison this year on Long Island before we hear up. Re-introduction: I posted on here for years and really enjoyed the people and conversations. I started in 1988 in the catskills and then progressed to the big woods of the ADK. I started bow in 2000 and picked it back up in 2010. I typically only hunt public land on Long Island and really enjoy the chase and learning. I have hunted western NY, Catskills mainly Roscoe and Prattsville but hit many other areas as well. We hunted Long Lake, Indian Lake, Tupper Lake, Lake Pleaseant and many area's in between. We now typically go to Moose River Plains and setup a wall tent for the week and sometimes I stay for an additional week, usually solo. Hope everyone is doing well and happy to be back! Looking forward to another season and all the crazy post we love to talk about!
  6. I believe it was last year when they made calls with deer legal in NY. If the picture is not uploading try to save it as another format like .jpg. That might help with uploading the file. Congrats on a beauty of a buck!
  7. Not sure how far he went but he could only go about 70 yards before he hit the property line. Just a bit to close for me.
  8. Nice buck Phade sorry the questions got you so upset. It is to be expected with such a beauty! Wonder if the acorns are dropping in your area like here on Long Island, don't have to answer as I do not want to upset you but they are hammering the acorns in my area! On a lighter note I finally got out for my opening day yesterday! (Swollen ankle has had me out for a month!) Up early to get to a prime location, all setup and ready in the dark I setup in a natural ground blind. 15 minutes after first light another hunter walks right past me at 15 yards and never saw me, came in with a climber. To say I was upset would be an understatement! I did not confront him as I did not want a hassle. Ended up stalking most of the morning, tracking a doe for about 30 min before she had enough and blew at me and bounded off. Jumped a decent buck from his bed and saw about 10 deer total with 3 I never got a good look at, also had 2 adult turkeys come in to about 20 yards while posting. All in all a good day to be out and celebrate my 2 deceased friends birthdays. Called it day around noon as temps reached almost 70.
  9. I know how you feel! My ankle blew up on me last year and it happened to my other ankle this year! Between Covid, elections, my body and little interest from the rest of the crew I seriously debated not going up this year. Some of the crew are showing interest but I told them this year I need help with setting up camp. My mind says go but my body is not ready for those mountains. Hope you have a great time and get better luck with the deer, regardless it is always a great time in the deep woods, best of luck and be safe! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures! Hope you are have a great time right NOW!
  10. Very cool! More more! I can barley cook toast without messing it up!
  11. Attach a lanyard to the pliers, some come with a hole for that purpose. After loosing a few pairs to Pike we figured attaching them to the boat was the best option.
  12. Some pretty big gusts down on the Island. Hoping my offices connections and power stay on. Hope everyone is well, be safe!
  13. All the top shooters use hing releases but for hunting and for 3D I always use a wrist strap with trigger. Just don't like the anchor point with a hinge.
  14. Looking forward to the debate that will be the icing on the cake! lmao!
  15. Well I think I have more toilet paper than ammo. lol I have mabe 8-9 rolls and did not shoot anything last year so I still have some ammo, at least enough for this crisis. Not worried, been out everyday as usual. Nice with no one on the roads. I have no food in the house so I still eat out everyday. Work closed till next month, luck for me I can work from home. Now that most of the remote users are set things are starting to calm down.
  16. Panic is setting in I already have multiple people requesting remote access. Not because we have anyone infected at work but because of fear. . . Now everyone wants to work from home. And guess who gets to set up the computers, lol. I need gloves!
  17. What a warrior! Amazing work and what a stud off state land with the BOW! Amazing! Thanks for sharing!
  18. 10 days is my typical max in the ADK camp. One day of rain does havoc to them that's for sure! I try to dry and oil but they get hit pretty hard. Always loved the stainless A-bold my friends had because they stayed in great condition despite horrible weather. Mine did not make it out as well that's for sure! If I ever buy another gun it will have to be set up for rain as I love hunting bad weather buy my guns do not! Full synthetic and stainless all the way! I will have to keep an eye out for Benoits pump action! Good luck with the new gun, should last you a long time!
  19. Why not a bobcat? Fawns are small enough for them to get that's for sure. Size difference is more than likely a female vs male. Had you just posted the second pic we would be arguing about it being a mountain lion! Biz might be right, the legs seem the same size, might just be the angle making it look larger...
  20. Welcome aboard! Great to have you!
  21. Something very special about the bond we have with our pets especially dogs. So many are in shelters, the next time you think about a new pet try saving a lost soul in the shelters, they really need it! I know it's hard when we loose a close pet but never let that stop you from having another pet! You are both worth the effort!
