What I like is there are guys still pushing AR’s to get bigger bucks that’s a line of crap. The most you can hope to get in the harvest is something less then 65% of the bucks being 2 ½ years or older it’s more like 60%. The data bears that out take a look at Pa. they have had AR’s for over 15 years and the highest harvest rate of 2.5-year old’s or better was about 66% in the last 5years but the average was less then 60%. Last year NY had a 62.6% of bucks harvested was 2.5 years or older and a 58.8 rate 2018. Seeing both NY and Pa calculate there harvest the same way you are comparing apples to apples. Pa was 66% 2019 and 64% 2018. But there are swings of over 10% in the 15 years Pa has had AR’s. the low was 54% 2016. The other thing I would like to ask the AR crowd, is what if you don’t reach what ever magical number then what do.

This is part of what I sent to the DEC. This is in response to the NY Deer Management Plan. I am generally in favor of the plan. I like the chance to hunt in between Christmas and New Year’s weather I do or not that’s up to my wife. I believe that the Cross Bow hunting should be tied to the archery and not muzzle loader. But to use a cross bow you should have to take the bow hunters course if you haven’t already taken it. We should continue with the Let Them Grow program it seems to be reaping benefits on par or greater than Antler Restrictions without limiting choice

How about next time you try shooting for the biggest target the heart and lungs. The neck you have a 2 ½ inch target the spine with all the major arteries and veins running down both sides of it. the heart and lungs you have a 9 inch target higher percentage of a kill shot. That was a bad choice shot. If it was the only shot you should of let it walk.

The total bird limit is 6 birds that is the basic limit for all of the Atlantic flyway. Some states are in more than one flyway

Before giving my thoughts on my deer season I list for all to see my personal rules for hunting deer. 1 know the Reg’s I enjoy hunting so much I will not do anything to violate the law even by accident. 2 safety is always first! 3 respect the animal 4 have fun when it stops being fun it’s time to hang it up. 5 I won’t shoot a deer on the last day that I wouldn’t shot on the first day 6 I don’t chase antlers I’m past that I use body size on bucks if it looks like it weighs around 200lbs I’ll shoot. This is how my season went. I saw deer every time I hunted and I hunted a lot. Every weekend in October and all of November and then every weekend till the end of gun season. I killed a nice 8pt on 24th of Oct. with my bow. Then on Nov. 13th I killed a big doe with my crossbow the first time I every hunted with it so I’ve gone to the Dark side. I won’t give up my bow I shoot it way to good. I let a lot of bucks walk during gun this is the only time I use antler size. I won’t shoot a 2nd buck unless it’s bigger then the first. I did kill a doe on the last weekend of gun season with my 6mm Remington. This was one of my best seasons I hunted 9p only this year.

Just got the results from my test and I have tested positive COVID-19. The company I work for has me off for the next 14 days. I don’t feel too bad can’t taste or smell and I’m tired and my head hurts with a fever that comes and go’s

Not being able to taste anything is kind-of a blessing seeing my wife is not a very good cook. I loved the test so much I asked if they could do it one more time. Just love having a 3-foot stick shoved up my nose. I should know by Monday. Right now, it’s not to bad a cough, fever, no taste, slight head ache.

I work nights went to bed this morning when I got up this afternoon my face felt hot. I took my temp. and it was 100.4 I have taken it 4 times in the last 2hr and the lowest its been is 99.3 and the highest is 101. I also can’t taste anything and have a small head ache.

With my 3rd deer down I’m hanging it up till October 1st 2021. This year I really felt my age (almost 63). I hunted every weekend in October killed an 8pt on the 24th with my bow. Then had all of November off I killed a big doe with my cross bow on the13th the first time I ever hunted with a cross bow. Then today I killed a nice doe with my 6mm Remington. I’m tired and sore.

The law states you can transport someone else’s deer. It needs to be properly tag and you need a note from the taker with his or hers information on the note.

Here is my best recommendation DON’T OVER ANALYZE. Use the ladder stand if want to be more mobile just use a chair and hunt off the ground. You can do both you don’t need to carry the extra weight of a climber. I’ve kill more deer off the ground than out of a stand with a gun.

I love the 444 its like hitting them with Thor’s Hammer. I load my own my best load is the Hornady 265gr flat point at about 2400fps.

I bring 2 my primary is my 444 marlin and my backup is a Remington 700 bdl in 6mm rem.

The best way I think to keep warm while sitting on stand. Ware the lease amount of close walking to your stand. So, you don’t sweat. Here’s what I ware: base layer, long sleeve shirt, insulated pants, insulated bibs, 4 in 1 gore tex parka with the liner not attached so I can take anything off if I want, I have an extra liner in my pack. I hate cold feet so my boot has 2400 grams of thinsolate heavy socks and toe warmers, gloves and a ski-mask. This for cold weather and for me that’s below 30 deg’s. I only ware base layer the shirt and pants to the stand. I always ware a hat because you lose the most heat out your head. You can always take off layers but can’t put on what you don’t have.

I have one rule never date a woman that can beat the crap out of me.

We are all going to die. We are not going to get out of life alive. What pisses me off is there trying to tell me where to stand when it happens to me! The odds are this is not going to kill me if get it anyway. I’ll take my chances seeing I think I already had it back in January when the Doctor said I had an upper raspatory infection and was sick for almost 2 weeks.

To anyone hunting the park or 8M I have a 8M DMP I will not need. I have already put 2 deer on the ground I will be hunting in 9P and not making a trip to the park. Just send me a message it will be a first come first serve. I can mail it to you (would need to know by Tuesday) or we can meet somewhere on Friday as I will be going to camp and go by the park.
