GJS4 if you ever take the time to read any of my post you would know that I practice QDM I just don’t believe in forcing my way hunting on to anyone else. Like stevemcd it’s my choice on what I shoot. Steve has it right. As for AR’s my source at the DEC has said there will probably be no more AR zones in the near future. So this is probably a dead issue. For now . here facts for you: Let us look at the BUCK take for the last 5 years. The buck take has been increasing for the last 5 years and the percentage of 1.5 year olds has remained the same. This would suggest that not everyone who claims they are practicing in QDM is doing so. The data seems to say there is not a lot of support for AR’s in the state. If there were a lot of support for AR’s you would see a reduction in the buck harvest coming out of the percentage of 1.5 year olds taken and that is not happening.

here's something to think about all the New York deer from Erussell post didn't come out of the AR zone. they all came out of what the DEC calls the lake plains area and allmost all the WMU's have high doe Populations

Some people had a hard time with bio. 101. The 1 to 1 buck to doe ratio is a myth. If anyone can show me how killing doe’s can give you more bucks that’s a trick I would like to see. With a birth rate at 50/50 bucks to doe’s ( If on your land you have 15 doe’s and 5 bucks (1.5 years and older) and you kill 10 doe’s and no bucks you still only have 5 bucks. What you have done is reduced the number of doe’s by 2/3’s. What you will see are more bucks sightings per doe sighting and you will see fewer fawns the next year.). A better way to see more and bigger bucks all you need to do is keep the deer population at about 80% of capacity and forget about the buck to doe ratio; and you don’t have to let every small buck walk just most of them. Also some habitat improvement helps. It is that simple. Remember Bio 101 an over abundance of males is detrimental to a species survival. Also up to 2/3’s of the deer on any piece of land before hunting season are FAWNS!

I have never shot one I have seen them shot at a 3D shoot. I think they are loud, clumsy and hard to reload and didn’t shoot any better than a bow. They may be of use to someone who can’t draw a bow but maybe not. I am not going to spend the money on one.

I do not think there would be more than a 10% increase in the numbers of hunters if cross – bow were used in the archery season. I have never shot one I have seen them shot at a 3D shoot. I think they are loud, clumsy and hard to reload and didn’t shoot any better than a bow. They may be of use to someone who can’t draw a bow but maybe not. I am not going to spend the money on one. As for there being no season there will be in 2011. It will not matter if the Gov. Signs the bill or not after so many days it becomes law. I can’t remember how many days I think it is 90 day unless there is a veto it will become law. That’s how some of the southern zone rifle areas were put in place. If you remember he didn’t sign all the rifle bills. -
Most of the time no (that’s my choice I’m not force to) but on one farm I hunt the farmer doesn’t do nuisance permits but he expects us to kill deer.

August 16th you can start purchasing hunting license's

I think putting a ban on killing all or almost all small bucks would put undue pressure on large bucks. That would seen to let the smaller bucks do more of the breeding. Somewhere down the line it looks like you would end up with a diminish return on antler size. As smaller bucks do the breeding ???

Doc i have seen dec personel at meat processors and they were doing feild work down around Bath

I was looking at DMP allotments for the upcoming season. I found that in the AR area with the exception of 3J you have a slim to none chance of getting a DMP. So I would think your chances of getting a deer for the table would be slim at best. But my real question is how many hunters no longer hunt in those WMU’s or have given up hunting all together? :-X

what I ment was not reporting your kill. an unuse tag is a unused tag. not tagging is poaching
-
Whether you believe the DEC’s numbers or not there are scientific facts involved in getting their numbers. First 45% of us do report are kills (this sucks if don’t report your kill your poaching) next there are check stations and then they make stops to deer processors and they do field work. How you and I get are number are far more subjective then scientific. One example would be if you killed a deer or two you may be more likely to say the deer numbers are fine. Then someone who didn’t kill a deer. Now how I did and what I saw for numbers (remember this is subjective not scientific) I hunt three WMU’s 8G, 8M and 9P. I live in 8G and have a camp in 9P; I hunted almost every day from the first day of bow to the last day of ml. 8G I would have to say the DEC should cut all DMP’s I only saw two does while hunting and I killed one. But my trail cam tells me there all kinds of does there. 8M the DEC need to close the season both times I hunted in that WMU I didn’t see a deer. But I did have my 15 year old son with me HE CAN SCARE BIGFOOT OUT OF THE WOODS. 9P the DEC is doing everything right saw as many buck as does in good numbers kill a buck with a gun and a doe with my ML and my son got BIGFOOT as he ran out of the woods.

If you are caught not reporting your kill the penalty can be the same as poaching. So does that mean if you don’t report your kill you are a poacher?

Are we not flogging a dead horse here no matter what side of the cross – bow issue you are on. There will be cross – bow use somewhere in the 2011 season :-X
