  1. I didn't make it this weekend to visit but that seems correct 20-24 inches compressed ground snow and then they also had the freezing rain and warm temps over this weekend. The "roller coaster" weather continues for now. I'll keep you guys posted as I go along.
  2. Here is a picture of a fisher's dental work up close. Hope this helps..
  3. Hard to tell from the picture and what was the fur like? I agree the teeth look canine like though....
  4. Back several years ago my father and I found while hunting in Saratoga County and old abandoned shack with a metal roof. It was tucked in the woods behind an old farm field and near several stone walls. There were odd old belongings left behind and after a little asking around learned that it once was the homestead of a freed slave and had been abandoned for years. There was very little left around and there was a big honey bee hive between the walls that we later harvested....
  5. I agree it's the "professional" looking riders in their form fitting riding gear that just have to be in the traffic lane no matter what roadway they are on. They refuse to move over even if the shoulder is very wide. They simply have to be to the left of the white line. They're all dressed in form fitting gear with their heads down peddling away and oblivious to vehicle traffic. I am surprised more of them don't get clipped by mirrors. Kids I fully expect to be oblivious to traffic and respond accordingly.....
  6. Yes, that brief period of time between "ice out" and black fly season!!!! I love small stream native brook trout fishing in and around beaver dams and well off the beaten path. There is a good amount of snow pack and appeared as if the deer are yarded this winter for sure. Unless we get a very warm spring the snow should be around until Mid-April would be my best guess.
  7. I was up last weekend and there's snow !!! The weather was warm and the sun has heat to it; but the snow pack is pretty deep and deer were walking in the roadways and right along the Sacandaga River bank.
  8. I was wrongly under the misconception it was a "refund" for the taxes paid in and how is it that some get a big amount back when the never paid that amount in by them ?
  9. That's a good one, they most likely need that phone for their "business" transactions. Maybe it's just a work phone....
  10. New York Vehicle & Traffic: Section 1129. Following too closely. (a) The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.
  11. A couple of weeks ago I went the the local McDonald's for a coffee and watched the food prep girl making some ones fish sandwich. Well, she squirted the famous tarter sauce onto the work counter by accident. No big deal I guess as she used the top bun as a dish rag and wiped up the sauce and then packaged it for the customer. I had to speak out and the reaction I got was they were in disbelief that I spoke up. Even though it wasn't my sandwich I wasn't going to let some other unsuspecting person eat that. Another famous one is they wear plastic glove for sanitary reasons, handle money and your food while wearing the same gloves. No thank you !!!!
  12. More than likely been incredibly busy cleaning the grime off the drivethru window, ironing the shirt and finding a belt that fit correctly......... maybe the teen assistant manager stepped away and this happened.....
  13. I just don't get this incompetent attitude that is pervasive today. It's like I imposing on them to do their simple job, have BASIS manners and be helpful.
  14. It's gone down hill for sure with all the cell phone use and such. Guess before bottled water and cell phones I was lonely and thirsty for years. People at cash out can't even muster a smile, eye contact and a simple greeting....Sad!!!!
  15. I'm sick of tired of people not doing their jobs; they fail to follow through as they promise, don't call back as they say and generally don't give any work ethic to their jobs/careers. This will be like a therapy session without the insurance co-pay..... What really grinds your gears and make you all angry and annoyed ?
  16. The Kilchers are homesteaders and don't live off grid. The last Alaskans live in extreme remote Arctic National Park for hunting and trapping seasons. I've read the book about Heimo and his wife Edna, great read and wild way to live. Life Below Zero also is entertaining to watch and the rugged scenery is always outstanding.
  17. It would be an adventure for sure, my buddy lived in "off grid" Alaska for some winters tending to sled dogs way above the arctic and he said the cold was unreal and it was much like a third world country. He enjoyed the experience but living in a cabin in that harsh environment was a daily struggle. Chores like feeding dogs frozen salmon that had to be cooked and gathering water were daily chores that took great preparations. Maybe in my twenties I would have enjoyed that, but not nearing 60....their tough people and its their way of life....
  18. Well my cousin’s, brother’s girlfriend’s, father’s nephew,’s paperboy’s father worked at DEC and he helped released them in the 1980’s and he hasn’t been seen since.
  19. Well, this dates back about 25 years ago now. My buddy and I were off on a typical duck hunting adventure at a upstate lake in his vintage, farm yard saved, International Scout with a Coleman "crawdad" strapped onto the top. We were in our middle twenties and had a day off and looking for fun. We started to the lake and began to take a dead end road that leads down to the water and because it was fall the area was vacant of residents. We noticed a newspaper wrapped bundle along side the highway and we stopped to examine the contents. It was neatly wrapped in the days newspaper and we found four - five pound packages of natural casing hot dogs that were frozen solid. There was no one around the area and it was obvious they were placed there and not randomly dumped. So we loaded them into the scout and away we went. After hunting we arrived at his house and after some debate on the idea of actually eating the hot dogs we carefully examined the packaging and contents. All appeared well, we then debated some more and after some Pabst Blue Ribbon consumption we thought how we could possibly "consume" them safely. We debated boiling versus grilling and couldn't decide nor render a safe decision. Then we had a brilliant idea, he had inherited a family "tom cat" of dubious disposition and attitude so we decided to feed a hot dog to "Tommy" and see what developed. Tommy happily contributed his part and ate the hot dog. We waited what we determined a sufficient time frame after several more Pabst refreshments and Tommy showing no illness we grilled and ate several hot dogs ourselves. To this day we never knew where they came from but never the less we ate the entire 20 pounds over the next few weeks on several hunting excursions with no (lasting) illness detected.
  20. I once found a type of weather type balloon about 12 miles in off any roadway in Hamilton County. The balloon part was pretty shredded and it was attached to a Styrofoam box that held a battery and some electronics. The markings could not be read, but it was pretty cool and looked like it had been there several years before I found it.
  21. A remote float trip in the Yukon or Alaska while hunting for moose or caribou along the way. Maybe a month long float with the wife (she hunts) or a couple of buddies while hunting, fishing and camping nightly.
  22. Most likely not. I bet this country and liberals will still let them in.
