No acorns where he hangs out, there are beech nuts, berries and deep woods natural food sources.

Nice deer.....

I like scopes for deer hunting, low power for the dense Adirondack woods and a higher power for the open farm fields of Western New York. As I get older I find a scope is a little more clear and I don't have to wear my glasses. I do however, practice acquiring a target in my scope often (safely) and find that when I pull on target I am right on with a scope by use of repeated muscle memory.....

Do you hunt in the rain and how did it work out for you
Salmon_Run replied to LJC's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I hunt in the rain every year, just to make sure I don't like it when it's November and 30 degrees out..... -
Bravo, and well said!! I recently retired after 32 years of service to my jurisdiction and am proud of the time I spent "on the job". Sadly, so many parents fail to actually raise their children and call 911 to have law enforcement discipline their children. Society as a whole needs to reflect how we raise our children and instill deep values upon them as they grow. My children always utilize manner in public and it amazes me that people recognize that as a special event. The children simply know that one has respect for all and use their manner at all time.

Term Limits !!!! We can not strand to have these career politicians in our government any longer. They all become self serving and subject to corruption.... People (including my household) are tuning in tonight to see if she imploded and he erupts..... I feel that neither candidate will sway any undecided votes from any debate. The majority of voters have solid opinions by now.

The key to successful deer hunting
Salmon_Run replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Ohhh, perhaps I should down my coffee, and put my reading glasses firmly on my face before I look at this forum... My buddy always carries a bag of strawberry licorice in his pack and countless times had deer running around him as he is fumbling around rattling the bag breaking off a piece.. -
The key to successful deer hunting
Salmon_Run replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Yea, I was at the local Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday and they had an entire row of deer food, corn and other tasty treats for sale. At the end of the row was a small sign declaring it was illegal in New York to feed/bait deer. Just remember to take those apples out of their packages; those darn deer lack the thumbs to do it them selves. -
Trailer recommendation
Salmon_Run replied to crappyice's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
My best suggestion is to buy the biggest and most sturdy trailer your budget can support. It sucks having to upsize a trailer if one buys a bigger UTV or sendond wheeler. I have a heavy duty "landscape" style with two ramps and the pressure treated deck. It is amazing how fast I can fill it when going to camp on work weekends. Best of luck.. -

Beards ? Do you grow one for hunting season ?

I retired after 32 years of law enforcement and will be full on beard this fall. After having to be clean shaven all those years and the best I could do was a shaggy beard during hunting vacation it is GAME FACE ON!! Unless my wife says no (of course) married guys understand. -
I am glad to see fellow trappers here... It is a lost art and I have not set steel since I was a teen and am getting my three teens involved. They love being at camp and outdoors. Any suggestion will be well taken and send me a private message if desired.
