  1. What ever one he gets , I would suggest one with a Hand Crank to make it easier to pull the string back . Other than the PSE Tac bows , I don't know which have the cranks . Some of the Parker Crossbows have a "easy pull system" http://www.parkerbows.com/crossbows.html
  2. The reason it's recommended NOT to shoot rifled slugs in a rifled barrel is because they supposedly will lead up a barrel . This may be true if you put a crapload of them through without giving the barrel a good cleaning . A little elbow grease and it's no problem ! I bought my rifled barel about 15 years ago or just before Creekside closed up and have been shooting nothing but rifled slugs through it since then . Owner's manual ? I bought the shotgun in 1965 . I don't think they had rifled slugs then .
  3. Are there any Bow Shops near you ? I would look for several shops and check out different brand bows . There are a lot of excellent manufacturers out there Matthews , Elite , Bowtech , Parker , PSE , Martin , just to name a few . A few of the shops have a range and will let you try one out . If you purchase a bow at Dicks or Gander Mt check it over real good . People pick these bows off the hook and pull them back and sometimes they get dry fired which can cause damage to the bow . Anyway , don't get stuck on a particular brand .
  4. Goodness Gracious ...... I hope you aren't comparing a rifle to a crossbow ! However , for those of you that don't care to argue , there are several crossbows for sale in the Guide . They were having Free Shipping for anything over $125 for a while so you might want to take advantage of that offer .
  5. I agree with Clint Eastwood " Get off my lawn , Punk " ! Be careful ---- they used to call me Easy Eddie !
  6. I like the Tru-Fire releases . I have the Bear Paw
  7. I posted this over a year ago in the DIY forum ........... http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj146/parker-bows/?action=view&current=HomemadeAecheryTarget.mp4
  8. On some of the profiles , you can get an idea of when someone is located by the map . It's handy when someone has something for sale . For instance , I wouldn't want to purchase something for pick up if it was from Queens , etc .. Too far to drive .
  9. Well , Golly-Gee , I never realized that stating someone was trespassing and teaching his kid bad habits was "bashing" . Shame on me !
  10. No ..... the best speed is just over 400 fps . If they get them up around 500 fps , maybe i'll get one . Just posted the info in case someone is interested . The Barnett "Ghost" is the most expensive in the Guide . I am only 70 so I don't need a crossbow ....... yet .
  11. In the latest Sportsman's Guide Catalog there are over 20 Crossbows for sale ---- Horton , Barnett , Carbon Express , PSE , etc .. They range from $270 to $900 ..............
  12. I put Winchester and Federal Foster rifled slugs through my rifled barrel . I have done this for years .
  13. I hunt with NEF single shot Handi Riffles . I didn't care for the elastic cartridge holders that stretched over the stock . I lost a couple cartridges and was worried about where they might turn up . I prefer the cartridge holders that fold in half and hold 10 rounds . they have a clip snap and can be attached to the belt or go in the pocket without damaging the ammo .
  14. Is that why you keep checking Paula's profile ?
  15. Nice wide rack on that guy . I have never used a camera in video mode . Thanks for posting .
  16. Yeah but it's worthless when someone shows Western , NY ( anything west of Syracuse ) or Up State ( anything north of the Bronx ) . Apparently they are embarassed to state where they are actually from .
  17. Why so defensive ? i didn't say anything negative about the crossbow !
  18. I am sensing some PSI here ........................
  19. Well Doc , unlike many of the members that don't have a problem with Trespassers on their property , I would like to say that I was brought up to respect the property of others and to respect my elders . Unfortunately , I am running out of both !
  20. That's exactly what Ottie Snyder ( the spokesperson for Horton ) said in an interview in a magazine article a few years ago . He said that many people work so many hours that they don't have the time to practice and can become proficiant with a crossbow in 30 minutes so you are definately right on this .
  21. Does Ted Nugent know about this ?
  22. Arrows go right through the straw bales and mice like to build nests in them . Straw bales are varmint magnets .
  23. I thought the grouping was pretty good with the crossbow since I had never shot one before yesterday .
  24. That's what shooting rails on the treestands are for ...........they are for rifle use but would certainly work with the crossbow . If I was to shoot one from a blind I would use a Camera tri-pod .
  25. I was sitting in a treestand during Bow Season last year when two riders on horseback were going to cut into my sister in laws laneway . One of them was going to remove the rope with the 2 posted signs until I hollared at her . My son has property in Italy Valley and we get hunters coming off the State Land onto his property which is posted . Not much can be done as someone could trash the place when he's not there . Another camp nearby was broken into and stuff tossed into the gulley . Many folks show "No Respect" for private Posted property !
