  1. I saw close to 60 deer tonight . There was at least 15 in a field across from my son's house , over 30 in a cut hay field about 1/4 mile down the road and over 12 in a field on Quaker Meeting House Road in Honeoye Falls . It was light enough to see the deer in a couple fields but the video camera wouldn't focus in on the deer .
  2. I have tried cat whiskers in the past and didn't care for them . Went to the Sims string leeches and stuck with those .
  3. Apparently the price of the rattlers has come way down in the past 2 years . I had seen sonme listed in the $100 range in the past .
  4. Yes and I posted the info ............
  5. You young whipper-snappers come up with more excuses . J/K Once I have one of the ladderstands set up . I usually remove the straps that you attach to hold the stand to the tree when 1st setting up . The next time you set up another stand , take the "extra" straps along . Get the rachet strap started when you are standing on the ground so it won't pull apart and attach one of the extra straps on each end . When you climb the ladder , pull the rachet strap up with the straps and attach the ends to the platform . If you have limbs in the way , you might have a problem .
  6. Definately BBQ ( with salt potatoes) and some BBQ'd veggies ...... The wife and I will be there this afternoon with our Bibs !
  7. Are you serious ? Some of those Rattlers were in the $100 range ........
  8. The name list is only as good as as the Processors that notify the DEC that they do or no longer participate ....
  9. I don't want any Cajun Smoker rubbing my backstraps ! ??? ... ???
  10. My son is marinading some venison backstraps with a Peppercorn marinade . That stuff is awesome . I used to be able to get the Durkees marinade but havn't been able to find it in quite a while . McCormick makes a fair Peppercorn / Garlic marinade that works in a pinch .
  11. I had bought some Powerbelts when I 1st bought my 50 cal NEF Huntsman . I had also bought the less expensive TC Hornaday XTPs . Both had the same results at the range . I had heard many horror stories about no blood trail with the Powerbelts so I have only hunted with the Hornadays . The deer don't go far when hit with a 240 grain XTP !
  12. I shoot with 90 grains of loose Triple 7 powder . It has worked for me . Never tried anyother type powder .
  13. Maybe you could exhale through one of those cough tubes ....... : .. : .. :
  14. I use a rachet strap and crank that baby tight . They supply them for a reason . You can never be too safe .
  15. Go to the 3rd page under processors and you can find a processor by County http://www.venisondonation.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=49:how-can-you-support-venison-donation&catid=35:press-releases&Itemid=59
  16. Makes me wonder if maybe some of the folks that propose this crap might have a vested interest in the non-lead ammo .........
  17. I couldn't use the "Breath-Taker" . I'm claustraphobic (sp) .
  18. John --- a few of the guys on downsouth hunting have the Bow Rattler and swer by them . They are a bit pricy though . But , if it works , it's worth it !
  19. ***PLEASE NOTE THAT IT WAS THE NRA THAT LEAD THE CHARGE ON THIS ONE!!! IF YOU ARE NOT A MEMBER.....YOU SHOULD BE!!!!*** EPA Denies Ammo Ban Petition Friday, August 27, 2010 Responding to a grassroots outcry from gun owners, the Environmental Protection Agency today announced that it has denied a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity and other radical groups that had sought to ban the use of lead in ammunition. Agreeing with the position of the NRA and the firearms industry, the agency explained in a news release that it “does not have the legal authority to regulate this type of product under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).” Further crushing the hopes of anti-gun and anti-hunting activists, the release added: “nor is the agency seeking such authority.” “It’s outrageous that this petition even went this far,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA-ILA Executive Director. “We applaud the EPA for its understanding of the law and its common sense in this situation -- both of which were totally missing in the petition filed by these extreme anti-gun and anti-hunting groups.” Because the EPA has no power to regulate ammunition, it will not move ahead with a public comment period on the petition. However, a comment period will remain open until September 15 on the other part of the petition, which asks EPA to ban the use of lead in fishing sinkers. Be sure to watch for more coverage of this important victory in next week’s Grassroots Alert and in NRA’s magazines. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hCramAIeFnoLFi0z49hPQAC6CrPQD9HS7T6O0
  20. Make sure everything on the bow is TIGHT ! My stabilizer was a tad loose and you'd be surprised how loud the bow would sound . A "string stopper" also helps cut down the noise . The Simms string leeches help .
  21. I found a way to make my bow sound quieter . I turned off my hearing aids . ???
  22. If I place any ladderstands where the ground may be soft is ...... I take a 2foot long 2" X 4" and put a couple of spikes in it for the legs to slip over . No problem yet .
  23. This old fart has put up a bunch of ladder stands by himself . It's not that hard to do . Once in a while the legs might slip on me then I am trying to raise it up but for the most part , it's pretty easy . The change they made with the stands that I think is great is the adjustable brace that attaches to the ladder and tree to keep the ladder from flexing .
