Nice job Grizz. Looks good.

Do I have to admit I went 0 for 2 days. Was into birds but just could not get them to respond. Anyone else with an update?
-
Well, for the youth hunt, I tried the feeding hen and the "breeding pair" (B-mobile on the ground and generic jake) + one upright hen. Had 4 different birds at 4 different times look at them and walk off. Going to try "Big Jake" next time I'm out with a couple hens. Might just be me but the birds I'm hearing and hunting are simply not responding to anything right now.

Grizz the feathers are wrong side up. I didn't correct it before I took the photo. I tried using the fan holder supplied w/ the decoy using a tail from a previous bird. Looked very poor so I thought how about trying it tail down. Less intimidating that way???? I was going for the half strut look. I dunno, willing to try anything once 'cause the full strut tail up long beard seemed to run birds off.

Have read alot of guys this year takng toms over a half strutting jake decoy w/ a breeding hen. I have a generic jake that's ok but wanted something else. So I drilled a hole in this B-mobile, added a tail and trimmed the beard down. What do you think? Anyone hunt over a jake/hen setup and how does it work for you?

NIce job. Looks very professional. -
12 and .308 is what I shoot. Hard to go wrong with that combo. I second the Mossberg 500 for the shotgun. And some may roll their eyes but look at a Stevens/Savage package in the .308. I've killed deer with it every year for the past 10 and counting and the deer never cared. Less than $400 for an out the door rifle and scope combo and when you drop it in the mud you just smile, wipe it off and keep hunting baby! Best of luck!

That's how I do it and its the only way to skin a squirrel! Well not really but the fastest and cleanest absolutely.

Nicely done

I agree w/ G-man, she won't be able to kick her BB fawn out of her home range if she's hanging in the garage.

Nicely done and nice buck!

I'll be hooking up at 6:15. Stayin' 'till the wind blows me outta the tree . . .

I'd let him walk . . . right into the back of my truck.

I've shot them in the past and they're like any other Muzzy head - devastating. The only reason I switched to the MX-4 was I thought 4 cutting surfaces would be better than 3. In all honesty I haven't really been able to tell any difference though, the deer I've shot seem to die just as quick getting hit with only 3 blades vs. 4. I'm sure you'll be happy with them.

Follow G-man's advice. Fall turkeys means putting your boots on the ground and covering the acreage until you run across fresh sign. Good luck!

Yep, when you change barrels you're best off sighting in again. Iron sights are OK as nyantler attests. Mossberg lists two slug barrels for the 535, both rifled, one iron sights one cantilever scope mount. The deciding factor is how far do you want your effective range to be??? Less than 50y, stick with your bird barrel and bead. Not sure if a 500 smoothbore barrel with iron sights will fit your 535 but if it does, you might find one used. Still good to 50+y but you've upgraded your sights. Either of the rifled barrels and some sabot slugs will pound them at 100y. Your choice of barrels depending on your wallet. Shoot straight!
