First-light

My 1187 that is about 35 years old. It has only failed me by my mistakes. Can reach out for a long shot and tuck in at close range. Honestly I have hunted for 40 years now and you become dependent on the old girl. It happened this year about 75 yards out brisket shot on a nice doe. No blood for 15 yards or so then I found her. I have never said this before in public but that gun will be willed to the first kid I mentored in hunting a few years ago. SHHHH don't tell him.

We are in 8P and will hunt Sunday with the regular firearms then Mon-Wed muzzleload. Its going to be cold!!

On Long Island the breeding cycle is a bit out of whack. There is a shotgun season in January and there a few deer come into the check stations with spots on them. Going to be single digits next week in the evening....too bad.

3 hunters at my place saw 2 deer in 4 days. Not much movement in 8P.

4 days of hunting for 3 guys and nothing to show. They saw a couple thats it. Looks like Doe and Steve did a number on my deer herd!

First year using evercalm. I was in the same bow stand for 6 straight days. Not once did I get winded by a deer and there were plenty. Weird thing was the woods by my stand had bright white lines on the trees! lol You see that stuff after it dries its super white on a tree trunk. I'm a believer and will use it again.

Brother pulled up to cabin at 10;00 there across the cut corn field two doe and a nice buck in the corner watching him! lol

About 6 years ago a huge corn field was being cut by my camp. I was in an exit area of the cornfield. I saw a few deer but was really cool I saw 6 bear! They all got kicked out of the corn. I think its a good idea to hunt in during the cut and the day after. GL

3 Hunters headed to the cabin this weekend, I should say 2 the other is a 13 year old boy experiencing hunting for the first time. He is the son of a good friend of ours. His dad hunts with us and is going to have him tag along to see if he likes it. My brother is also up there. Weather looks pretty good for them to hunt in. Another big 8 pt was taken by the guys who live behind me. Thing had a 20 inch spread and nice long tines. They have doe permits so they should get a shot or two. I'm headed up next Sunday for last day then 3 days of muzzleloader. Can't wait!

Here is one thread that has 6 pages. It should only have 1! We know how to hunt and the legal hours enough said!

If you think about it a lot of deer get shot between 9-11 and 1-3. Why you ask, people are coming and going from the woods. They bump deer and send them your way on the stand. I may be reaching a bit with this scenario but think about it, the walking hunter is "driving" deer to you.

Drives are really not my way to hunt but have nothing against it. Did a lot of driving when I was younger (stupid) with 10-20 guys at a time. I think back on drivers wearing Carharts and little orange. Neighbors to the north of me drive on opening day in the morning, sounds crazy but they took two real nice 8 pts this year driving their property. I would still hunt by myself. I'll be up last day then 3 day muzzleloader. I'll have my brother with me we may put on a few drives but they are more like 1 person still hunting walks, no yelling or whistles.

I too had a buck come in with a doe in lockdown. He followed her every step of the way. He was a real big buck that constantly made this clicking sound. 2:00 pm. not a care in the world.

Guys by me in 8P drive 9am opening day, I don't get it????

My Daughter goes to college in PA. She texted me Monday do you know its Deer Hunting day in PA? I laughed. My buddy by my cabin Hunts opening day in NY, heads to Maryland then to PA. Last year he killed a buck in every state!

Throw on an orange vest and hat and go! Knowing I can reach out a lot further is a good feeling!

Two of the biggest bucks came by my stand last Friday of bow. I was in that stand for 6 days straight and pissed off of it 2-3 times a day. There you have it!

I thought the same, haven't heard from him in a while.
