  1. Good luck with the knee surgery. I am too busy to spend enough time at camp to harvest a deer. This year it was a total of 4 days. I was lucky last year getting two on opening day. This year not so lucky. I signed over the doe permit to my brother. 4 deer killed at camp so there is meat. I just love being out there enjoying every moment. From the first-light of the sun, the chattering of the squirrels and the fly overs of the Canadian Geese. It just rejuvenates my sole like nothing else. Enjoy every minute of it and bring a kid along!
  2. Very vague…..let it all come out before we burn someone at the stake! lol
  3. My brothers biggest deer, 140 class, was shot after a fellow hunter took the Texas heart shot at the deer on the run. He wound up putting a slug through the right flank. Deer was tracked for a few hours. Leaving a few blood beds here and there. It was pushed onto my property and crossed right under his stand, done deal.
  4. Good luck Greg. I too will be moving next year. I'm in the process of taking inventory. What gets chucked, what goes to the cabin and what comes to my new place. Enjoy your new home.
  5. Taken on the South Fork is all I know. Beautiful deer.
  6. On LI when gun season opens in January there are still deer with spots on them. They get shot weighing 40lbs or so.
  7. That sucks. They will learn the hard way I'm sure. Good luck finding a new place to hunt.
  8. Puts everything into perspective. God bless that young hunter!
  9. The camp next to mine is made up of 70% out-of-staters. Only 2 of them get doe permits because of land owner status. The first buck that walks by gets shot. This year they had 6 bucks hanging by Wednesday. 5 were 1.5 yrs old and 6pt or less. 1 buck was a big 8 pt. 2.5 yr old. I guess this theory can work because I know there are a bunch of big ones out there to shoot. They will have little pressure on them on a big track of land right by me.
  10. I have two stands 15' off my property line. It all depends how friendly the neighbor is and how much land they have to hunt. I border a chunk that is 350 acres. There are 5 guys that hunt this property. They are all real nice and never once complained about the stands. Their closest stand to my property is probably 50 yards.
  11. Just got back. Camp is still warm with the crew up there until Tuesday. Had one miss Saturday morning and My brothers son in law shot a decent 7 point Saturday afternoon. It was a bust after that.
  12. Got ya all beat 6:08 first shot when off in the Town of Howard!
  13. Here we go! Brother has been at the cabin since Tuesday. He put a two man stand so his grandson can join him on opening morning, he is 6. My niece and her husband got up there Wed night and bow hunted yesterday. She was in my stand and had a real nice 10 pt at 40 yards. he didn't come any closer. They will hunt again today. I'm coming up this afternoon with a friend. Good luck to everyone. Btw my neighbor found a buck with its head cut off just off our road. We know of one bow shot deer that was never found in the area, hope it wasn't poached?
  14. My spot has yielded so many deer over the years. On the edge of a bedding area where they cross from the feeding area. That stand has someone in it during legal shooting hours all the time. I usually hunt it hard the first two days. This year I gave it up for my Niece who is looking for her first buck.
  15. I got an equity loan on my house and used the cash to pay for the land.
  16. I just looked at the updated forecast for 8P. I don't like it one bit. Saturday 65 rain in the afternoon. Temps drop at night snow all day Sunday into Monday afternoon. Total snow 8-12 ". Got to shoot them Saturday morning. Grow you are so right about the woods, I will pass that along to my hunters.
  17. 8P is expecting 3-5 inches of snow during the day.
  18. My daughter has her own opinions and they are very strong. Nobody will ever be able to sway her one way or another. Interview went great and she on the Field hockey team pending admission!
  19. Early decision was given to Muhlenberg College in PA. Kid loves the school and hopefully will be playing for the Field Hockey team. Good luck to Michaela!
  20. First I hope you get your deer. Second I have hit deer that did the mule kick, flipped over and made noise. These shots (2) have left me with no deer. I believe I hit bone, I did find both arrows that were bent, the deer bled like your deer. Again I hope you find him and good luck. Look around the shot site for that arrow, it will give you many clues. GL
