  1. I'm with ya, the drinking coffee part. lol Good luck bag a big one!
  2. Deer pole 11:00 am opening day. No story to tell just use your imagination!!!
  3. Looking forward to them congrats!
  4. Nice guns we have one that is so old but cabin worthy!
  5. My neighbor was out yesterday for a few hours. He said "it was damn comfortable hunting out there today." It was in the high 40's and he saw 13 deer. I honestly think we read too much into the whole sport. Lady luck is a big factor…...
  6. It's funny how a slow season can change in a few hours. It happened to us on opening day. Bow season was slow and I really expected it to continue through opening weekend. I was wrong.
  7. What a kick in the pants…..just got my closing costs and the 10.5 acre parcel to have surveyed cost $1050.00 bucks. It is a perfect rectangle bordered by a road on one side. I was thinking $500 or so. I have a call into the lawyer to see whats up. For that money it should be clearly marked with ribbon. Am I being crazy here or do you think the price is ok?
  8. I have a neighbor that patrols the area and keeps the criminals out. Put security stickers on your windows. Mount cameras to video the inside and outside of camp. On the internet you an find cheap motion detected alarms. Mount a few inside the cabin.
  9. As you know we had a great opening day. I said all those bucks shot were never captured on our cams. I was wrong about mine. My brother went through some pictures of late summer and there he is in full velvet. i think that is pretty cool…...
  10. I'm using DJ Taxidermy in Bath. After I caught up with him he was bedded facing away from me at 15 yards. I shot him through the back and the bullet must of exited out and clipped his leg.
  11. My place is in 8P as well. Although we did a bang up job on the deer opening day deer sightings were down at bow season. On opening day we took 4 nice bucks and a doe. The bucks were all chasing two hot does so that kind of skews opening day. I had a decent amount of deer on my cams late summer early fall then it fell off drastically. It has been unusually warm this year.

Just went over the Centerport bridge and a guy had a 5 gal bucket full of them.
  13. Thanks Zem. That big one I shot admittedly was not a good first hit. (Steve will bust on me for this) He was hit right through the hind quarters. I actually thought I broke his leg. He left no blood at all. I jumped him once in the beginning then gave him an hour to settle down. When I took up the trail I just followed his prints and a drag mark though the leaves. I ended up in a brushy field. I crossed a small stream turn a corner and there he was bedded down looking out into the brush. Something told me he was ready and he wouldn't be going anywhere. One of the other deer was a first time buck. I was real happy for the guy, his first time hunting with us also. A true gentleman hunter. He will be invited back. One last photo with me and my 6 point.
  14. Going to have this buck mounted showing his right shoulder, head straight up. This will be a first for that kind of mount. looking forward to the finished product!
  15. Welcome I hunt 8P. Great area of the state for sure!
  16. Neighbors father took a walk down to the area we shot these deer at. He sat for a little while and along comes a buck. He took the deer at 50 yards and it died right between two gut piles. My brother renamed the area "death valley"
  17. I just read an article in a magazine stating that a chicory clover blend can't be beat. Multiple smaller plots are better also. Left the magazine up at the cabin so I can't tell you which one it came from. I believe it was a 60/40 mixture, clover being the 60%.
  18. The one thing I see that makes me wonder is the tape going across the major trail. There was a reason he did that??? There must be more to the story, no?
  19. We didn't have one of these bucks on our trail cameras this year. There is just so much good food available in 8P. We were just very lucky with the timing of those two hot does. There are a lot of deer per square mile, have two does in estrous at the same time will draw them in big time. I do have to say, true for this year and in the past when there is a hot doe usually the smaller bucks will be right behind trailing her. The big boys come in a few minutes later.
