I met a WW2 vet on the check out line in the grocery store over the weekend. He was a piece of work, made me laugh so hard and what a ladies man!!

Most of my deer over in 8P are all like that. Battle scares for sure!

So many big deer being killed right now, rut is on!

We hunted differently this year picking two 5 day hunts. one for bow and a combo bow opening day. We will be up wed night through Tuesday, nice looking forecast!!!

Everyday there is a new big buck shot and more does hit the ground. Like Geno said access is key and worth its weight in gold...

My field was just cut yesterday.

Not prior to the hunt but at the actual time the deer come around my stand. My best kill shots were when the deer came in and there wasn't a lot of time to think.

99% of hunters are just after big bucks……………then who is shooting all the does??? Read your statement correctly!

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in here about some comments. "99.9 of hunters are just after big bucks" I totally disagree with this statement. I know so many that just want to go out enjoy and come home with some venison. Sure we all want to kill that big one but at the EOD most guys I know are happy with a doe. Last year I wasn't really following the LI deer hunter website. I would stop in here and there and really didn't come away with the way the majority hunt. This year I've been there from the get go and see that a lot of the guys shoot multiple does. There is one guy going on #9. So the guys are doing their job to help keep the population down.

I also have seen some pictures of big deer this year. Many of those deer were taken this past week, the rut on LI hit full swing. Also a lot of these guys take many doe. There is twice as many doe taken than buck picts on the site. There has to be controversy is everything does it. I don't see how he is drumming up business, he is stating hunting has been real good. He is an excellent Taxidermist so I believe his work speaks for itself. Along with that there are some really good processors out there who do a great job.

Taken from LI deer hunting website: Just wanted to say congratulations to all you lucky successful hunters out there!!we set a record today at fish unlimited taxidermy in oakdale!!! We butchered 40 deer today. 35 of them were bucks. The rut is definately starting to turn on!! Of the 35 bucks 15 of them were pope and young!! And 7 of those scored 150 or better. It's killing me butchering and skinning this time of year. Can't wait to get back in the woods myself. Wish everyone good luck!!!we already have 15 mounts from this October mounted and drying. Off to a banner year at this rate!! Just goes to show you that the hunters can do a great job controlling the deer population on Long Island if they let them. Give us more areas to hunt and we will show them even more! The new 150 foot definately helps also.

8P not much happening.

Yup, it's a new trend with the herd. They are getting Tattoos on their Butts stating their age and favorite hunter. Zoom in and you can see that buck is sweet on you at the age of 3.5.. lol

The weather is going to be great for hunting. I'll be up bow hunting Thurs/Friday then gun hunt for the next 4 days. Hope this pattern hangs around. Screen shot is Avoca NY.
