3,000 deer on LI in federal sharpshooters' sights this winter
First-light replied to the blur's topic in Deer Hunting
Those people out east do not want hunters on their property, period. Look at that thread from the guy in Port Jeff that said an arrow was sticking out of the back of a deer, what to do. These images run through their minds. These people have money and think they are privileged and think ridding the deer with sharp shooters is best answer. Out of sight out of mind, happens at dark silencers on guns, we won't see or hear a thing. How about leaving it up to the persons landscaper and crew??? Imagine that 12 guys show up to clean up the place and hunt down the deer. They pay for the removal just like a fall cleanup, I'm kidding but do you get the picture? lol -
Bubba, Just saying from what I heard from the last two people who went through the course. They said the instructor spent more time on survival skills then anything else. As you know the majority of hunters can find their way out of the woods at the end of the day. The daks are a different story but I did say the majority. They also said there was a lot of time wasted taking breaks. I'm sure this is not the norm but why not just have a streamlined course to get people in and out and focus on one thing gun safety.

Old timer story- used treble hooks with a hunk of meat hung with piano wire. About high enough for a yote to jump and bite…………... -

Danny how did you get your hunting date? Thought this didn't start until Monday? Is this a different hunt than the one where you sign up at Rocky Point?

5 for me. Meat in the freezer is great having horns is the cherry on top. Sharing the hunt , my cabin and good times with family And friends is most important. Oh yes, passing this tradition down To other generations is also important.

Been a long time since I missed smoke pole weekend. I won't make it up, although I could go the weather is not going to be great for driving and I'm just burnt out. This last weekend I could remember all kinds of crazy weather patterns. I think back and remember one year we camped in the Catskills. I remember sitting outside the tent on Sunday afternoon and it was 75 degrees out! Other years cold, cold cold. I stayed in a stand all day in 15 degree temps not seeing a thing until 4:00 then all hell broke loose and ended up seeing 15-20 deer all together passing right by my stand. Another year had the gun go pop fizzle from too much moister in the powder, shooting at a nice buck that was with a bunch of doe. Have fun be safe fellow Muzzleloaders!

Face it most guys are out for the big buck. That goes at gun season also. Guys are passing on real decent bucks looking for something bigger, they are out there. Needs to be a law put in place where 1) you can hunt over bait 2) you need to shoot x amount of doe before you can take a buck 3) open up more areas to hunters 4)slightly longer season -
I like that deer he shows some potential, love to see him in a few years.

Buddy has a full body mount of a piebald in his game room. Shot it twenty years ago and I know him as the luckiest hunter around! Always fills his buck tag, bow and gun. So much for bad karma.

You could use those things as Hay Hooks!!

You get to hunt too much…..I'm calling foul!! lol good luck

A good season is having a couple in the freezer. It seems the past few years I have had new hunters on the property. I love seeing them get their first! That happened this year so it was a great season!!! The bottom line for me, Being out there enjoying my property, with old and new hunters, and having the opportunity to harvest a deer means a great season.* *My two girls would be very disappointed if the freezer didn't get filled (that would not be a good season for them) lol
