Noodle one, I wish you luck. I think what your talking about hits some harder than others. I have had those feelings for the last few years. I made up my mind to get more youth involved at my camp. I would rather see a guest get one for the first time rather than myself. I let two walk Monday morning after doing 2 all day sits and only seeing a small button buck. Good luck my friend and continue enjoying the outdoors in your own special way!

First question yes their hide is thick and it could stop the bleeding somewhat. This happens more in archery season. Second it sounds like that was a sow and cub you shot at or two yearlings orphaned because the mother was shot. which is illegal. Two bears in the same area???? I have learned through the years to let the bear hang around if possible for a bit. Sometimes the cubs bring up the rear and it could be a good 5 minutes. I hope you took some hours to looks for these animals. BTW I usually don't bust chops but you saying you buddy took two shots but it was way too dark is not a good thing.

Each group has its own bad apples. A lot of hunters come from downstate so its easy to stereotype them. Some may not be the type you like but they help the economy in some pretty depressed areas. I have been hunting for a long time. I come from Long Island and own a camp in the Southern Tier. I have seen it go both ways with the upstate and downstate thing. One thing I do have to talk about. My brother in law moved upstate from Long Island over 35 years ago. His father in law took him aside and told him we do things differently up here, watch and learn and keep your mouth shut for a while. He did just fine. My brother in law told me this story because I too needed the lesson when I started hunting and spending so much time up there. I built up a great circle of friends and it continues to grow. I hope your situation gets better, get through Thanksgiving weekend and you will probably have the place to yourself again.

The south/south east wind really killed some of my better stands. Now it wasn't blowing that hard but still enough to screw things up. We (4 hunters) saw a total of 5 deer in 2.5 days of hunting. Not good this year..........

215 lbs giant. Shot by my friends daughter 7:15 opening day. From the same camp a nice 8pt shot Monday morning 11:15. This is the same deer my brother shot with the bow a week earlier in the neck. Had a big wound that started to heal over.- 63 replies

Just got back from camp. It was a bit slow on our end. We saw 3 doe, 1 button buck and I had two chasing this morning. I just could not make out the size of the buck doing the chasing. I believe he was small guy, didn't want to take another small buck. My niece made the trip for the first time. She is 21 years old and was a real trooper. stayed in the woods all day Saturday and Sunday. Wish she saw more deer, maybe in two weeks. The big news comes from my next door neighbors camp. Opening day his daughter shoots a 215 lbs 8 pt. The deer is massive and so are the antlers. Too bad one side was broken up a bit. If this buck was fighting I would love to see the deer he was doing it with. We also learned today on what happened to the nice 8pt my brother shot last weekend in the neck at bow season. The deer was harvested today ay 1:15 checking a scrape on the edge of cut corn. My neighbors cousin shot him. Upon inspection we saw the wound on his neck. The arrow went in and did some cutting but nothing major. They will look for the broadhead when butchering. Enjoy the picts!

It got figured out today at 11:15. The buck is a great big 8pt weighing in at 175lbs. Shot by my neighbors cousin about 150 yards right in front of my cabin. The arrow went into the neck and did not exit. It cut up the neck a bit but did not hit anything to slow him down. 1 week went buy since he was shot at bow season, he was out checking scrapes this morning and down he went! That is my poor brother in the picture, had to help him off the ground when we saw it was the deer he hit a week ago!

Nothing more scary than this, from a post last year.............

I have my own place, have great neighbors and the taxes are not that bad. Nothing like owning your own place. Leasing is also good. Just like Culvercreek said Cotton Hanlon is great to work with. I am on a list for a certain property they have. I will lease it when it comes available.

I look forward to bringing new people up. Its been a long time that I have had 2 new people at camp opening day. My niece and friend will be joining us. I hope they experience all my place has to offer. I also look forward to seeing all my neighbors cousins and uncles coming in from Maryland. Great bunch of people and camp traditions! Opening weekend is wonderful. -
headed out tonight around midnight. Should make the cabin by 5:30, going to try to get in one last bow hunt! I my my brother, his daughter (newbie) and a friend coming along. We will have all the escape routes covered. Weather looks good, it should be a great 3 days of hunting. Good Luck all, Burt

good luck Eddie! -
Some of us been at this for many years and some just starting. It only takes one time of carelessness to cause an accident. I been hunting for 34 years. Last year I shot a buck, checked that it was dead and leaned my gun up against a tree. It still had a round in it and the safety was off. Gutted the deer and my brother and I dragged it out, gun slung over my shoulder. If I had fallen or a branch got caught in the trigger-well, I don't need to go on. Just be safe out there and think before and after shooting. -Good Luck!

Sounds like that is what happened. Real nice buck on camera but hopefully we see him at gun season. Thanks guys!

Last weekend my brother has a real nice buck at 33 yards broadside. His shot he tells me hit forward at the base of the neck and shoulder slightly high. He says he saw the deer run with the arrow and had good penetration. He had a go pro vid camera on his head and after reviewing the film, 2 people think they see the arrow hit- I can't make it out. His head moves so the video is a bit blurry. Point of impact there is some brown/gray hair no blood. Deer spun around and hit a field and his tracks are clearly visible, no blood. At the point he enters the woods 20 yards from impact there is more hair, actually more than at the impact zone. We look for this deer a combined 11 hours. I follow his tracks as far as I could see, no blood. We go back to impact zone and look for arrow, no arrow. I know anything is possible but could the area he hit the deer just be muscle and fat. The arrow does not go through and the one side is sort of plugged???? This one has me stumped. Base of neck/shoulder area a bit high. What do you think? The only plus from this is I found a nice 8pt shed.

That is so cool! Can't wait to take my daughter for a bow hunt next year, I will be her mentor. -
Guys got a long driveway, house is big and is surrounded by acres and acres of woods. Wonder how they knew the bowhunters came on their property?
