  1. Nice birthday present! It's nice to catch a break here and there.
  2. Great, now I have to look up in the air when I make it through the woods, like bears aren't enough!!!
  3. I was picked on a survey last year. it had to do with forestry and game habitat. Filled out the survey, got a thank you and an invite to a workshop they were putting together. I believe the criteria was Southern tier landowners over 50 acres.
  4. Enjoy the Day, looks to be real nice. Happy first Fathers day John!
  5. Just saw the story, unreal they can fly with that fawn in its grip.
  6. Im at a loss for what you are trying to say here. "unless you hunt in a high pressure area...." what? Why is a picture taken in June, how many stands you have or how many times you hunt them in a season relevant to anything we are discussing here? Dont take this as me being a jerk, Im trying to figure out what you are saying. I think Grow was pointing out that at early season it's very green and hard to see other hunters. Mandatory orange would help. Maybe I'm wrong but I think that's it.
  7. G-man, Don't know much about mudfest but on Memorial day weekend in Avoca they had something like this. I stopped in with my girls and we had a blast. Trucks are awesome!
  8. The youth season will be great. Why not do it??? We will have almost three months to hunt deer, we can't spare 3 days, sound selfish to me. As being a solution to getting kids involved in the sport it is not. You have to have them out there all year. Teach them the ways of the outdoors, not just about a three day hunt. Involve them in food plots, getting the camp in working order, other game on the property and forestry. Mix all these things together and let it grow inside that impressionable youngster and you just might end up with a hunter. I just penned in the date for my mentoring duties this year. He will also be staining the cabin and plating trees in the fall with me. Might even get in some fly fishing also!
  9. I have read most of the posts here and there are some valid points. For me a hunter that travels a good distance to deer camp the only season I would be able to take advantage of would be the youth hunt. I would not be able to come up during the week so that weekend would be great for me to get my girls out to hunt. The early muzzleloader in my opinion would not hurt anything. The woods are so green that time of year I would think you would be hunting field edges, at least I would. The weather is warmer so those old coots that can't take the cold get a shot at using a bow or muzzleloader early season. I see that youth weekend as more than a hunting opportunity, the woods are just alive with color, the weather is usually real nice, hunt in the morning and evening and fly fish mid-day! What a better way to enjoy the outdoors with our kids!
  10. The three that gave me problem were a muscle relaxer, anti-inflammatory and my cholesterol med. Should not of mixed in the muscle relaxer I was told. I had them hanging around from a neck problem months ago. We moved a bunch of fire wood Saturday and my back was killing me. Next time I'll deal with the pain.
  11. Thanks guys! Eddie that's where the saying "shit the bed came from!"
  12. Please be careful what you take together. I just sent the last three days in the hospital because I mixed some meds up. I crashed Sunday night with low BP and HR. Throw out the old stuff and don't ever mix. Totally my fault and I could of really been in bad shape if it wasn't for the EMT and ER room personal.
  13. Great news John! One of the best feelings in the wold becoming a Dad! Glad Mom and Baby are doing fine!
  14. It's dead, True but no more. I want to know if it has claws, that will let us know if it was a pet!!!!! http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/06/11/connecticut.mountain.lion/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
  15. Gman, I have the whole series of Bowhunting October whitetails, Barry or Gene Wensel is in it. These go back to the 80's and were pretty good for that time. Fun watching them, funny thing the deer don't change over time. They still look and act the same. We humans are the one's changing, spending all kinds of money on new products, trying to figure out that animal that makes our heart pump!
  16. Yea it was kind of a shoot from the hip reaction for him. He explains himself in the apology. I have a high regard for him but as the saying goes "you said it you meant it."
  17. Burt, you do know that Zumbo was practically horsewhipped for expressing that opinion? He was fired from Outdoor Life and Remington, and a slew of other companies and people didn't want anything to do with him. Who then steps in, none other than Ted Nugent who took him to his ranch to shoot some of these AR-15 type rifles and to "educate" him on them. I happen to agree with Zumbo and admired his guts to say what he felt. The shooting world unfortunately is not kind to those who don't march lock step with them and some of their extremist views. This forum is another example of this also, although not nearly as bad as many others which is a good thing. Yes I do Steve, it's a shame. I respect Jim Zumbo and the things he has done for hunting. He really had to eat crow for that one. http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/2007/02/jim-zumbo-apologizes.html
  18. Even among the great hunting fraternity opinions differ. http://razoreye.net/mirror/zumbo/zumbo_assault_rifles.html
  19. So this is what I ended up with. Best part it was FREEEEEEEEEE! My Nephew has it and really doesn't use it much. I pick it up in July. It's also is a dump cart and has a seat in the front of the wagon.
