  1. No I don't, but they have to be some where around 3 feet tall. Thanks for the info.
  2. 2 week ML season sounds great but you'll have to pry the scope from my hands. I'm open sites challenged.
  3. So what do I get for hunting in 15 degree weather for 3 days? The flu and slight case of pneumonia! Got out of bed this morning and felt like a truck hit me. Doc says I need bed rest for the rest of the week and maybe Christmas eve will be a go. This sucks!
  4. I've been ordering for a while now. Planted 250 white spruce 3 years ago they look great. Did a mixture like your list last year. Real nice stuff from Saratoga. I do it every year and enjoy the planting! What would you recommend for a wet area that needs some cover for the deer?
  5. Way to go Fletch, yea I asked Santa for a scope for my muzzleloader. See my journal!
  6. "I never do this but something inside tells me to be at my bottom stand tomorrow morning." Got up there 3am Saturday, unloaded the truck took my gun out of its case and leaned it up against the wall of the cabin. It was 12 degrees out but the cabin was 62 degrees, real nice. (have you caught my first mistake?) Was down in my bottom stand at 6:40 had two small doe cut across the field at 40 yards around 8:00, I let them walk. 8:15 I look up and see deer coming out of my pines headed straight for me I lost count at 7, all does. The last deer was much bigger, these does were all yearlings, it was a buck! A nice tall 6pt was chasing all these does! Like I said they headed right for me and I had plenty of time to get ready. All the does stoped 30 feet from my stand, it was unreal. The buck came in and broke up the pack of does. He stood broadside at 20 feet, a chip shot-hole in one, right? I squeezed the trigger and heard "pop"-"sizzle" and some sort of projectile came out of the barrel looking like a flare that sailed 10 feet and then died in the snow. I don't know who was more surprised me or the deer. The buck looked at me and ran off. I couldn't believe it. Talked to my brother-in-law and he said the gun should of stayed in the truck and that condensation built up in the barrel causing the powder to be moist. Hence the flare of gun powder. Oh well lesson learned. That evening at the same stand 80 yards out I had six doe sneaking through the hard woods. I touched off a shot at the last big doe but missed. Sunday evening at 4:40 a deer entered the field that I thought was a big doe. Again at about 80 yards, I shot and again missed. The deer ran right at me and I saw it was a small spike. After this mornings hunt I shot three rounds at 80 yards, I was high by a foot! My back site had come loose and ended up stuck on the high end. Another lesson learned. I saw 17 deer this weekend, it was amazing. Picked up the three deer that were butchered, 150lbs of boneless cutlets and chop meat! One thing that did alarm me was some trail pictures of some coyotes in the area. I was told these are a hybrid mix of coyote and wolf. They were real big and looked more wolf than coyote. Reliable source that showed me the picts. Sort of thing that would cause a problem to you if they were hungry. Happy Holidays to everyone!
  7. I should of made this the 4 things you have learned this year, see my Journal about the great and not so great muzzleloader weekend.
  8. Change of plans, I'm going to leave tonight. Weather looks good and I can get out by 9ish. Load up on caffeine and away we go. I never do this but something inside tells me to be at my bottom stand tomorrow morning. I'll probably just end up taking a crap down there! Good luck to all of you guys this weekend!
  9. Riiiiiiiiiight. Nod Nod Wink Wink. DEC Tipp line is open 24/7 When you set up those turkey feeders if you put a bar across where those deer, I mean turkey come into feed it helps to knock off the antlers late season. I mean turkey, awe I'm all screwed up. Just try it.
  10. Yup, just talked to him. That is north campus, he says those deer are not stupid up that way!!lol
  11. Just emailed my brother-in-law he works at the campus and is a big hunter. He will flip at this!
  12. Good luck finding a site where nobody disagrees, ever lol. While I dont agree with erussell on this one, questioning things is not a bad thing and is part of life. WNY, I agree with questioning being a part of life, however I don't see a question mark at the end of his statement. Which leads me and others to believe that he's just envoking his opinion, which is wrong. Usually comments like that lead me to believe that the person making them is ignorant or jealous...or both!! My buddy, who took the pic, happened to be doing some scouting when he saw the bucks rack sticking up over the soybeans as he was bedded in them. When he got a little to close the buck jumped up and ran off and that's when he snapped the pic with his cell phone. He's one of a handful of good bucks in the area and I hope I can get a crack at him next season. Thanks to those of you that can appreciate this great buck for what he is!! Letimfly, I second that. There are people on here that just love to question everything. How deep do we have to go on a simple picture of a great buck or wether that little boy who got shot was hunting or not. It's insane, it's a great site hang around and just use your ignore button now and then!
  13. I used to video years ago. I took video from 1990 and up. Put it all together in Final Cut pro and made a 1.5 movie. It was pretty cool but took a hell of a long time. These days I have enough to do in the tree stand let alone try to video. I do have to say some of the home grown stuff is real good. It's fun don't get me wrong but you better be a good shot!
  14. Thank you. A little girl was killed a few years back by a hunter (doing some stupid things) and they set up a fund raiser and it really helped the family. It's rough this time of year, any amount helps.
  15. Why would you put your kid in one of the most dangerous hunting situations. Driving deer is probably the worst way to hunt. I think back years ago when it was more popular how many guys we went out with and close calls that happened. My kids come in the woods at times when pressure is low, period. If they need support is there a foundation set up we can send to?
  16. It's amazing he almost made another year. A true king in any state! Just guessing by the looks of the bullet hole(if it's a bullet hole) but it's a bit high in the back, looks to be from a tree stand. He must of looked awesome in the woods.
