  1. I started bringing the video with me years ago. Never taped a kill but came close a few times taping my friend shooting and missing. I turned hours and hours of footage into a 1.5 hr movie composed in final cut pro. It's something I will always have at camp to show newbies and it's cool every so often to break out and watch with old friends who have seen it a million times. It did take a long time to complete but was worth it. If I have some time I will post some of my favorite scenes. Burt
  2. Keep them every year. Great way to look back and figure out what really went on with the rut. Yes the moon and weather has impact on the rut but I believe it even is more of a localized event. This is where journals are a big help.
  3. I put up a cabin three years ago. Had a 100' driveway put in along with a 20x24 cabin w/loft and 8 ' deck. Cost me 15,000. Was a great deal and the guy did a wonderful job. Took me a year and half to finish but has all the comforts of home!
  4. I have a buck head and a horse head for my girls that ride horses. They are great because you don't see them when you look through the back window. They are silver outlines of the animals, bought at an outdoor show.
  5. Plates look like cat scat! They could of done a much better job, must of had tons of yellow paint leftover from the old plates!lol
  6. Same here, thanks! I like our journals on NYdeer .com and hope we can keep them going. It's really cool to report the years hunt. We all benefit from it.
  7. Hi, I go by the name of Burt, been hunting and fishing for over 30 yrs. Have 1 PY buck to my name that graces the cabin wall. I have made numerous friends along my hunting journey in NYS, we have a great community. I have a camp in Steuben county NY that is loaded with deer turkey and bear. It is a wonderful place and many memories have been made there. I hunt pretty hard from bow all the way to smoke pole. During the season I do put aside a few weekends to take a kid out to hunt. This could be the most rewarding experience of you hunting career. Last year I had a 14 year old boy out with me and on his first bow hunt he took down a button buck with a perfect shot. I will never forget the look and feeling we both had when he harvested that deer. It beats anything else I've done in the woods, you should consider it every year. I'm looking forward to all the posts on the site. Bag a big one, Burt
