  1. "I hunt with a crossbow because of a military injury in 1992, I have had 2 reconstructive rotator cup surgeries on my right shoulder and 1 on my left. I have 60% mobility in my right shoulder. I can not draw a bow back without severe pain." A quote from Steve.
  2. Steve, So what is your take on the Primos product silver XP with earth scent. I am currently using this product.
  3. I think you missed my point. Just taking this hunting situation and the way he harvested the buck is questionable is some minds. Was it legal, yes in Ohio. We are a big group that come from all different types of hunting areas (replies in F/S)and we all have our opinions. Some areas hold giants and some don't. Some want to hold giants but never will, no matter what is put in place. I guess when you used the word laughable in describing the negative commentary, I was mistaken in what you meant. We have alot to debate in NY and like I said, I hope we get it right.
  4. WNYBH, If you go to the F/S site and look at all the replies you see a divided group. This is the hunting community, I don't think this is laughable like you say. This is exactly what we are enduring here in NY. AR's, the use of crossbows and changing of season lengths. Laughable no, something for serious debate yes, I hope we get it right.
  5. Love hunting this weekend but we are scheduled for the following weekend to be at camp. Will be there for 4 days straight! Enjoy this weekend it looks to be great!
  6. I started this thread and want to be fair to Steve. He has gotten some negative responses on the F/S board and he replied about how he took the deer and his circumstances. 1) No high fence 2) Baiting is legal and only baited to keep the does in the area. (I'm not so sure on this) 3) Uses a crossbow because he is handicapped. 4) Is a regular guy like you and I and works hard for what he earns. I don't like the baiting part but it's legal. As for the crossbow it was used, in my opinion, in the right circumstance. A trophy indeed, it will look good on the wall.
  7. Hoyt 300, I helped a 14 year old get his first bow deer last year, it was one of the best experiences in the outdoors for me. I hope to do it again this year. keep up the good work!
  8. http://www.fieldandstream.com/photos/gallery/hunting/2010/10/helicopter-hunter-arrows-monster-ohio-buck-crossbow?photo=0 So "Stevo" kills this huge buck hunting over a mineral lick and baiting with corn and apples, pretty impressive to me, not! Did I say he used a crossbow?
  9. Yup, I would do the same, can't track w/o blood. Thanks
  10. Good shot but why the hell would they go back at 4am? A possible wounded bear in the dark?
  11. Just goes to show ya, find a scrape and piss in it!!!
  12. 1 buck rule, sure puts to rest who you are, meat hunter or trophy hunter. My brother-in-law hunts in Ohio and they have that rule.
  13. I posted on my thread that nothing is being eaten. Sorry the pumpkins got eaten and the plants. I do have a huge field of clover that is two feet high, this could be the problem. We'll see how we do later season.
  14. NYFUR, How about the story and are you mounting it? I think it's real cool when you see them in the woods and we would all benefit from your experience. Not many of us have taken bear and with their numbers up we need all the help we can get.
  15. Nice, I hope you shot him in the Howard area, we need a couple taken out. Great picts!
  16. Good luck, that has to be one of the best lookers this season. He'll have some deductions on the right side but boy will he score!
  17. Pumpkins and the plants are gone, there were about 8 of them. Turnips, chicory and throw and grow not touched??????? Now my field was planted this year in oats and now it is clover, about 2 foot tall. I think the deer are really hitting the clover and standing corn. Any thoughts? Farmer says he will cut the clover soon and just leave it on the field.
  18. This weekend we saw a bog buck dogging a doe in a field Friday morning when it was real cold. Found a huge scrapes in a line (3) that had to be made Friday. I think we see alot of deer killed opening day if the weather is good. Prerut I think will be Nov 7ish and rut around opening day.
  19. Hey guys just got back, Friday was cold windy and a bit of snow. I saw two small bucks and one doe, my brother saw 3 doe, 1 small buck and one of the big ones dogging a doe in the field. This buck is real wide with not much tine length. He was about 75 yards and offered no shot. Saturday saw us in warmer weather but a bit of rain. Brother shot at a spike and missed, he is still looking for his first bow kill! I had two button balks stalking me. I bumped them going in and they were more curious then scared. They actually came towards me will I set up in my stand. They eventually walked off, I think their mother was taken opening weekend and these little guys... well don't know if they make it the next couple of weeks. I saw a huge buck making a rub at about 75-100 yards. Went over to investigate and found the tree he was rubbing and a scrape line. Some of the biggest scrapes I have ever seen, deep also. Today was a bust except for the red fox I saw. Will be back up in two weeks for a 4 day trip, I continue to mentor the 15 year old from Jersey this year. I have a new set up to hunt with him and hope he gets a shot at a buck. Have a great week and good luck! Burt
