Well he's late, I'm sitting in my office in the middle of Manhattan, waiting just waiting. This is pure torture! My brother just joined the site, a newbie, his name is jeff. Check out his hunting location, a real character.
Still waiting...
Hard to tell, but how many times do you get a second chance at a nice buck after you fumbled the first, not many. A deers needs is to survive by eating and breeding it can't do it without being alive. So with that said I believe that
there isn't a "wait I can't go that way cause a hunter was there yesterday" thought but subconscious process that takes place in its mind. It keeps the deer out of harms way by the way its brain logs in bad experiences.
In other words for me a deer doesn't have much of a memory but has great instincts!
It all starts this weekend at the camp. I will be heading up Thursday night with my brother and we will be hunting straight through Sunday evening. My Brother-in-law and his friend may be joining us. There was a new lease across the road from us and I heard that they took a 6pt and a doe opening weekend! Weather should be good but we have a full moon. With a little luck you never know.
I may try posting from the cabin with my IPAD if not it will have to wait till Monday. GLTA
Shot a deer at 7 in the morning and found him later in the afternoon, crows were even pecking at him. Was a big 3 yr old buck close to 190lbs. He tasted great! Don't worry about it.
I started a thread on years hunting and deer wounded and not recovered by gun and bow. I found it interesting that the numbers were very low, good for us and the deer.
Hit a big body deer in the liver at 20 yards. He didn't run but just walked away. I found the arrow covered in deep dark red blood. I walked past this deer 3 times (spotty blood trail) before it bolted across a field. I went back to camp and gave it 4 hours. Came back out with some help and looked for another 2.5 hours. The only reason we found this deer was the noise the crows were making pecking at its wound. We went over to see what they were doing and we found the deer. True story, so in despair look to the skies for crows!
