  1. Thanks guys the Simmons looks to be a good deal it comes with the rings and free shipping.
  2. I have just bought a marlin 60 and was wondering if anyone has a good scope they could recommend. I have around $70 to spend, and was considering the bsa sweet .22. Any suggestions or recommendations much appreciated.
  3. I was reviewing my trail cam pics and came across this. It looks like a set of teeth at the top with the tongue at the bottom. I finally figured out it is a catapillar on the lens of the camera.
  4. I did not find one but we suspect someone put a camera out on the previous post I did titled terrible end for a deer, so I am expecting the person to return at a future date and was asking for input as to what to do.
  5. If you found someone had set up a trail camera on your property without permission what would you do? Take the camera or leave a note for the person to remove it?
  6. I never thought of someone setting up a bait cam as it is in the middle of my property, but you got me thinking so I went back to look for a cam but didnt see any.
  7. Taken in Delaware county near Oneonta. I have a trail camera out and have pictures of coyotes around the area.
  8. I came across this deer carcass in the woods the other day. The neck was wedged between two trunks of the tree. I think the deer was probably being chased by coyotes and got stuck and killed there. The only odd thing is the position of the deer seems to be almost on its back.
  9. I came into this country from England and believe me we have it good here compared to over there. The standard of living here is much higher and better job prospects.Freinds who are still over there are experiencing high unemployment and poor health care with vandalism rampant. One of my freinds was out leagaly rabbit hunting and was confronted by a fully armed police swat team who arrested him only to release him when the landowner was contacted to confirm he was given permission to hunt. I became a citizen here and have no intension of going back.
  10. Thanks for the input guys I live near in Delaware county, The tracks are about the dimensions of the coyote tracks on the chart Culvercreeck posted. What annoyed me I had a turkey nesting nearby now there is just a bunch of feathers and all the eleven eggs destroyed.
  11. These tracks where in some mud I am no track expert but I think they belong to a coyote. The problem is I thought they have four front pads while this seems to have three, does anyone have any idea what it is?
  12. In April I hinge cut some trees and layed them down at the side of a track to form a hedge. In May I went to plant some service berry but was unable to due to a turkey nest in the hedge. I guess habitat improvement does work
  13. I was working in the woods, when up jumped a turkey I almost stood on her before she left her nest, I took a photo and left to work in another area. When I got home I found this moth clinging to the screen, its wing span is about six inches. Can anyone tell me what type of moth this is?
  14. This is the video I was referring to.
  15. Does anyone take a firearm into the woods with them when working alone out of hunting season? I saw a video of a single coyote actually stalking a hiker and eventually coming in close to snap at him, had there been two or three he would have been in trouble. I feel secure taking a rifle with me as I work alone, also the question could you shoot a coyote or bear legaly in self defence?
  16. Thanks again for the welcomes. A story of anti hunting I would like to share for any one interested. A anti hunting group bought a 3000 acre hunting estate in Caithness Scotland and stopped all hunting. Their thinking was all species will thrive with no human interferance. The red deer population thrived as there are no natural predators, the small game and song bird population declined dramatically as there was no longer any sort of land management or predator control. After one harsh winter in the spring after the snow had melted the ex gamekeeper was brought to tears as he found in a remote valley over 50 deer carcasses. The deer heard had grown so much the land could not support them, all the animals had starved to death. The general puplic in England are unaware that land owned by hunters usually has more wildlife species than land not managed. You only have to look through the threads on this website to see how passionate the hunters are towards land habitat improvement and game management. I just hope the US puplic dont get the British anti hunting bug.
  17. Hunting is popular in England, but not as popular as here in the U.S. There are no government lands available it is all private. Usually a group of guys get together (as in my case) and rent land from a farmer or The Forestry commission and build up a shoot, mainly small game hunting. This way it can be affordable, I payed approx $1000 a year for a 1000 acre shoot which included pheasnts we put in a release pen and where free to roam. There where 20 members of the shoot. You have to buy a game licence annualy to hunt game $80 approx, you do not need a licence to shoot vermin. You have to have a shotgun certificate to own a shotgun the restictions are no criminal record, a doctor, magistrate or person of simalsr standing must sigh for you. The guns must be kept in a metal goverment approved cabinet. The police rigerously check all the criteria are met. A rifle or firearms certificate is a whole different deal, in addition to the shotgun licence criteria you must proove you have land to hunt on and depending on the acreage the calibre is restricted, the police do not want you owning a rifle and will find any excuse to refuse permission. All guns are registered to a spcific owner, the gun serial numbers are written on your certificate. You cannot buy any ammunition without your licence. There are no pistols allowed in the Uk. There is quite a bit of anti hunting sentiment in England.
  18. Thanks for the welcome. To answer a few questions, I live in delaware county and hunt there and in NJ. There is good hunting in England mainly Pheasant, ducks, woodcock, rabbits and woodpigeon. Deer hunting is more restrictive as it is difficult to get a rifle in England and you can only shoot deer with a rifle. Ther are vast areas of moorland where red deer thrive and are hunted by stalking them. It is very expensive to do this as a stalk can last a couple of days. The other main deer species are roe deer, they are small about the size of a lab and live mainly in the woods usauly hunted with a .222. Some rich people have large estates dedicated to shooting where they employ a gamekeeper to control vermin (mainly foxes, stoats) no coyotes racoons or skunk in England. Vermin can be taken all year round by gun or snare. The game keeper breeds pheasants or partridge to release on the estate. They are usually hunted by driving the birds toward a line of waiting guns, I used to shoot around a farm where I would walk along feild hedgerows with a dog and could end up with a pheasant duck rabbit or woodpigeon which are a whole different story.
  19. Hi to all Born in the Uk and hunted there for 40 years I have a lot to learn and find this web site has a wealth of information from all who write on here. Lived here 10 years and became a citizen last year. I love this country and feel privileged to live and hunt here even though I have to re educate myself in everything from tree identification to new animal species. Again thanks to all who contribute this valuable information.
  20. There was a tv show I watched the other night called Shark Tank, the show is about millionaire entrepreneurs who invest their money in new businesses. One guy invented a gadget to fit on a pick up truck to carry ladders etc. He wanted money to set up a small factory in his hometown to employ local people. The "sharks" showed interest in his invention but would not invest money in him unless he manufactured his product overseas. He stood his ground and refused to manufacture overseas. He went away without any money. Sometimes corporate greed overides morals I think.
  21. I wish they would have a made in America campaign and put an American flag on all products made and grown here. In a Shopright the other day a nearly purchased a bag of garlic grown in china, it was pure luck i saw the label and was able to put them back and get the American grown.
  22. Thanks for the link very informative
  23. Can anyone describe the correct way to hinge cut a tree. Any advice appreciated
