  1. what are the regulations in order to hunt those lands? any special permits?
  2. Archery Typical Whitetail Deer Score 180 1/8 County Westchester Year 1998 Archery Non Typical Whitetail Deer Score 210 4/8 County Suffolk Year 2011 I think Suffolk county will hold the non-typical record for a long time, problem with westchester is there is NO-Public land to hunt, suffolk has 20,000 acres of public land
  3. Enjoy i love my Hoyt AM32, which is currently being tuned to the "T" in Idaho
  4. I could be wrong but i think you have to be a Westchester resident in order to hunt there.
  5. I would cover the legs with a few bunches of thin trees, look a bit more natural
  6. i have used them, i mostly hunt afternoons and late in the season by 5:00pm you can't see, i will hunt with a standard arrow knocked and will switch to a (lighted nock) arrow about 30min before it gets dark
  7. it i amazing, not sure where these guys get the $$ but they buy a new bow every year
  8. in todays market bow do not hold value, fortunate for us because the $900 bow that was all the rage last year is still awesome but comes at a much more reasonable cost example, the PSE brute you wanted for $550, there is one on AT now 1 week old for $375 fully loaded
  9. Yes i'm biased to HOYT but here is one of the best bows HOYT has ever created, and it's 29" draw and it's $450 loaded http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1773238
  10. http://www.archeryta...d.php?t=1782521 here ya go buddy, not sure what your measures are but this is setup as 28" draw 2011 Hoyt Maxxis, offer $575 for the loaded bow and it would blow the PSE brute away. 60-70# draw
  11. If it means anything to you, AVOID new, your gonna pay $500 for a (mediocre bow) when you can take that $500 and buy a top of the line bow thats 2 years old
  12. the Alphamax , Maxxis and CR32 are all 7" on brace height as are most bows that are 320fps + except the waffle iron Mathews bows under 7" brace height are unforgiving ( PSE OMEN, ELITE jUDGE ect...) most archers can adapt to 7" without issue, don't be discouraged besides your gonna practice....
  13. try to shoot whatever bows you can get your hands on and then goto archerytalk.com / forums/ classifieds and look for bows that are 2-3 years old, what was $800 2 years ago is $450 today, looks at Hoyt, Elite, Strothers you will not be dissapointed if you want check out Mathews too just stay away from the Reezen, worst bow Mathews has produced. want my honest opinion look for a 2009-2010 hoyt alphamax AM32 if you like a hort bow AM35 if you like a little larger bow, aim for $400 or under for a bare bow and YOU WILL BE HAPPY i promise i have shot many many bows and the Hoyts rock as do Elite, Bowtech, Strothers
  14. before making any NEW purchase, goto ArcheryTalk and check out the used bows, i went thru this last year i bought a NEW PSE brute for $400+ returned it after 2 shots, horrible it was heavy, hand shock on the shot, rough draw cycle... i would rate it OK as an entry level bow, went to Archery talk and got an Hoyt AlphaMax 32 1 year old for $400, and it's the nicest bow i ever shot and i've been bowhunting for 20 years
  15. optimal would be both, cause when your in a open filed situation your gonna want the bolt action .270, but when you creepin thru the woods still hunting your gonna want that .30 .30 lever two rifles i always take up with me A-Bolt Bolt Action in 7mm-08 and a Marlin .35 lever
  16. LOVE IT I have a Browning A-Bolt in 7mm-08, it's my goto rifle same recoil as a 35rem but shoots much much flatter, has dropped every deer i've shot with it
  17. slight change of plans worked out for the better, i was supposed to head up this morning but i got a call to fish Jamaica bay and got to do a number on the bass, i would have missed a call that came in to hunt a buddys uncles farm on tuesday, word has it there are birds around every day..... win win throttled the bass this morning and new property to hunt on tuesday
  18. i havent tried the federals only 2 i tried was the Win supremes and the Rem Premiers the winchesters shot high and ton the left and the pattern was a bit more random, although they did have more of a noticable recoil than the remingtons even though everything was equal shot specs
  19. 38 yrs old and been bow hunting sinc1992 then it was pounds = speed = range i always shot a bow at 70# and even plyed with my buddys that was 80# now i picked up an alphamax that i set at 64# and iprobably would have been better off with a 50-60 maxed out at 60#
  20. good luck John... birds or no birds it's just nice to be out
  21. apple trees are a great addition, protect them well as the deer will chew off every leaf if the trees are small
  22. are you that opposed to state lands? where are you located Nassau or suffolk? suffolk opens up a few more opportunities in regards to countty land but there are some awesome areas that we all can hunt otis/rocky point/sarnoffs and there are bucks that will make your knees buckle.... my neighbor this year on a very popular state land tagged a 6 point that scored 130" looked like a muley and an 11pt that scored 160"+ and an 8pt that went around 120" all without a treestand he stalked each and every one...
  23. well gentleman/ladies i just wanted to wish everyone a safe and successfull experience for those heading out this week, This is the first time i will be doing a solo hunting mission my plan will be aaheading up to camp on sunday scouting around the 50 acres followed by the 12000 acres of state land in nearby shcolarie county (10 min drive) then successful or not headed home thursday whats your plans???? Dan
  24. it's often confusing for a new hunter and questioning where you are permitted to hunt, take into consideration that by purchasing your hunting license and equipment along with you everyday taxes gives you the right to hunt state lands, you are not hunting someone elses land, it is yours as a NYS hunter to hunt & camp if you so choose where permited, however you do share that right with many other hunters. so to answer your question YES you are aloud to park and enter/explore/hunt state lands
  25. most spend more in GAS for one trip upstate than 10 boxes of shells. pick a decent choke without breaking the bank, 3-4 different brands of shells and settle for what shoot best, in all seriousness everyone gets caught up in "the latest, the best" ect... the gun that took turkeys 20 years ago will kill the same turkey today
