  1. I understand having bad neighbors. Five of us own 250 acres in Eastern Delaware county next door to a notorious family of poachers. They would use the youth season in a heart beat to cover their poaching. But they also use small game hunting, target pratice, turkey hunting and walking in the woods to cover their poaching so nothing new there. Let's let the plan play out then critique it. I will be taking out a friends son hunting that weeekend in Orange County. His dad has to work weekends and is only off during the week.
  2. Doc, I have been hanging around internet forums for many years and I am a mod on several gun/hunting boards so I have no problem with you having a different opinion. It seems to me that you are the one with a problem with people having a different opinion. And I have been hunting 40+ years so I know a few bowhunters. I wished you luck once already, I will again, Mike.
  3. Doc, I don't see it that way. I see elitist bowhunters looking down their nose at gun hunters and kid's pontificating as to why there should be no youth season, no crossbows and even a shorter gun season. I do have a bow license but I choose not to bow hunt but rather save my limited time off to gun hunt. I am also a avid turkey hunter and as of late have gotten the bear itch. I don't think you guys know how you come off. But on this site and many of the other gun/hunting boards you have come off with an elitist attitude that only bowhunters are real hunters and you should get more time in the woods and unlimited tags. All the time using compound bows, range finders, trigger release, climbing stands, sent cover, camo, illuminated sights, even scopes while claiming it is a primitive hunt. You must be kidding me! Doc, I agree it is tiresome. I hear all of this crap all the time and it is very tiresome. I just have a different prespective. Enjoy your time in the woods. Mike.
  4. Well I wanted to play nice but I guess it never works. The more this topic is discussed the more you bowhunters expose yourselves. Keep digging. Just come out and admit it. All you want is the woods to yourselves.
  5. Full disclosure: I am a hard core gun hunter. I don't bowhunt. I don't ML hunt. I hunt on my feet. Track, still hunt, and drive with friends. I sit very little. I don't view standing 30 feet up in a tree using modern climbers, clad in camo, armed with a modern compound bow a primitive hunt on any level. And I feel the same way about modern in line ML'ers. So let's all get off our high horses and band together as sportsman and COMPROMISE! The DEC wants three days for a youth hunt. That's it! And in return they are starting the bow season on October 1st. I think that is a reasonable compromise.
  6. There is no such thing as felony trespass in NYS. 140.15 - "A" misdemeanor 140.10 - "B" misdemeanor 140.05 - Violation. Burglary is a felony
  7. Got both 4P and 3M. Will pick up a 1C in November when they are giving them away. Both my son's denied for 4P.
  8. 12 gauge Sluggers. Shot several Long Island deer with them out of a 870. 12 gauge Copper Solids. Shot one LI deer with them. Too expensive to shoot a deer twenty feet away. Used a scoped 1100. 270 Winchester. Shot my first deer a spike horn at about 50 feet with it. DIRT. It was a Savage 110 left had bolt action. Hated that gun. Sold it right away. 30-06 Springfield. Shot most of my deer with this in a 742 and later a 7400. 20-25 all together. 35 Whelen. Shot one buck with this in the neck at 60 feet. DIRT. 7600 rifle. (Also killed a bear with this gun) 35 Remington. My new favorite deer round. Killed my best two deer with this in a 7600 carbine. Got both of them mounted. Also killed two spikes and two does.
  9. Sorry I did not specify. When I stated I would like to see a moratorium on doe permits I ment 4P not the entire state. We did in the mid 2000's but I forget which years.
  10. Well time will tell who is right in the AR fight. I hunt 4P and 4R as well as 1C at home. I hope you guys are right and we do see more mature bucks but I have to tell you I don't even see many does. I did not even see a deer in Delware in 2006. Ar's are here so there is nothing to argue about. I would like to see a one buck rule and a moratorium on doe permits for a few years. Meanwhile me and my crew are going to hunt the high peaks this year and see if we can find one of them black bears. Been hunting eastern Delaware for 39 years. Figure I got about 20 or more seasons left.
  11. Been hunting Delaware County for 40 years. Seen good times and bad. Past 20 have been not so good with the loss of most of the farms. The AR's will increase poaching and decrease the overall number of hunters. I believe DEC gave out too many doe permits and the yote's are killing the deer. I would support one buck rule and cut back on doe permits. I believe this has all been brought on by TV and the I only shoot 150+ deer with long G2's and all of this crap. Yote's should be killed year round, no season. I remember all of the bucks I killed. Spikes and all. And I am proud of them all. When did we start needing a lease, tractor, food plot, camera, feeders, climbing tree stands, blinds, sentblockers, doe piss, and all of the stuff TV says you need. Used to be Jeans, long johns, wool jacket, good boots, work gloves, watch cap and your rifle.
