    acorns

Hey Paula, just for the records what county do you live in? I currently live in Suffolk and no acorns have dropped at all! But my other property is in Sidney center and I just planted 1400 trees this spring and have noticed it was very dry.

Paula, I think that when trees stress out from a lack of rain they start to release there acorns and or leaves so they don't have to feed the extra growth on the trees. I have seen this before it's like when you transplant a bush you should give it a good trimming but do not trim less then one therd to accomidate the root loss. I don't think that is why you are seeing those pesti raccoons I just think they want some pop corn for the night time! Carl

I am a landscape contractor and have not seen any indication of any acorns on the oaks yet and have not seen any in my fields. They say when we see an abundance of acorns the winter will be bad, I hope so I could use the money ! Carl
  4. Just cut my fields, they are starting to look good. Can't wait to long from spring turkey to fall hunting. Seems like it gets harder as we get older! Now my kids are involved and there is a lot of talk at the dinner table. Feels reel good and my twin girls love the thrill of it also with my two boys! I think this is more then I could have ever expected out of this sport

I don't know what you can do about this situation, maybe try to get a dog! I don't if you can buy a spray but I would call DEC or Cornell on this topic
  6. I have property in Sidney center ny and have planted three food plots. Had soil tested and the clover started to come up by the end of may. I had herd that clover should not exceed about 9" and when it does you should cut it, but you should bag all the clippings. I also herd that you should cut it when you see the seed heads, but not to cut it when the temp. Exceeds 85 degrees. I live on long island and don't know exactly how it's growing but herd we are in a dry spell, I think the fields should be cut once at the end of July and again in September some time, what do you think? Thank you Carl B. from long island and Sidney center
