Fertilizer Inflation…. Wow!!!
Nomad replied to Wildcat's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Spoke with my wife’s cousins yesterday ( I hunt their farm ) . Anything they’ll get in the way of higher commodity prices , is more then offset , by fertilizer, diesel , labor and natural gas prices . Natural gas is a key component of fertilizer,as well as running the bin driers the product goes in . Nation wide , farmers are planting more soy beans and less corn to save on fertilizer costs . -
In honor of your Birthday , I walked three hours in ,muddy fields , and got one soaker crossing a creek .

https://amchar.com Nation wide wholesale place worlds largest Glock law enforcement dealer . Started by a Rochester firefighter decades ago . Retail shop open only to military and first responders, shelves of ammo all through the “ shortage “ walls of ARs , Ar pistols , handguns galore .
-
I only buy at Amchar , nobody can touch their prices . And perhaps from individuals in southern states ….

My buddy in Knoxville is friends with Sigs National sales manager , I’ve got three Sig hats from him , and he’s got Sigs from him at sweet prices . I really wanted to meet him…..but alas I’m still Sig less .

Went out after being back the other day, three hours zippo… I always find 1- 4 there . that was on neighboring land, I always start there , as no one goes on my spot , so I save that for later . Late start for sure , tomorrow my spot ! I generally find one find one for each two hours of walking .

Rochester has a higher per capital murder rate then Chicago . Many cops are leaving altogether or going to the burbs . Nation wide every dept is down guys , many offering sign on bonuses to try and counter . I avoid the city as much as possible , sadly . I used to live there ,and even after moving tried to go there to support the businesses as much as possible , no more.

https://www.secureitgunstorage.com/how-the-gun-safe-industry-lost-touch/ The video is great and worth your time , Ive worked in the safe industry and already knew most of this . I’m also a fan of decentralized storage , in other words don’t turn your gun “ safe “ into an Easter Basket with all your homes valuables now in one place . I bought a fast box from them for my daughters home , it is what it is , no ones tying to make outlandish claims ,hers bolts to her bed frame which is a neat feature . When we left for two months I actually took things out of my “ safe”, some went into my bank safe deposit box, others to a friends house ,as I know anyone with a few uninterrupted minutes can open it and can it out .

Few days back in West Virginia, a pretty cool state btw . Decent oatmeal stout .
-
No you don’t , I don’t know anyone who doesn’t run their guns ,like intended by the manufacturer.

Well mine has run through a few “ wide spread “ outages for days , in addition to an 11 day outage where my pressure reminded fine . I’ve responded to hundreds of water problems ,ie flooded basements and my plumber friend recommends the Liberty brand one and has installed countless ones over the years with no issues . I’m pretty confident I’m familiar with what works and doesn’t . lol oh and I’d never have a garage sale

If it was made between ‘82 and idk ‘87 perhaps, after that date I worked on the shipping dock until 1990 . Is it a 1380 or 1330 ? Mrs Nomad worked there till they moved 6 years ago or so , I bought her a sombrero but she stayed here ….

I used to work at Sentry Safe the first and best maker of real fire resistance safes , U.L listed . Few safe companies safes can meet those requirements , keep in mind there are varying leaves among U.L. ranks as well . Also Sentry was sold to Master Lock who moved the whole shooting match to Mexico …. I’d be Leary of them today . My point is any safe company that has their own “ rating “ generally does so because they can’t meet U.L. standards , so keep, that in mind id that’s important to you . Most of today’s box store safes aren’t even really safes ,they’re made to look good to the uneducated buyer but offer maybe 2-5 minutes of “ safety “ against a hand tool attack . If I had to do it over again I’d go Sturdy safes , you’ve never heard of them because they don’t advertise, don’t have to .in fact I’m considering getting this one ,in addition ,to my gun safe, wall safe, two drawer actual fire resistant file ,that’s where our papers go . I’m thinking of this one . https://www.sturdysafe.com/products/the-cube

We pump it into the storm drain , run the hose down the driveway, it’s sewage that we can’t pump into it . Sure makes sense . My back up ran every few minutes for three straight days in ‘03 , battery just won’t last for me . Iirc it’s like a few hours of use on the battery . The first water back ups had plastic bodies and parts , gearing ect . They were terrible, I went through two in short order complete junk .

Additional thoughts . The Gulf side beaches and water are way better then the ocean side , although getting around Cocoa Beach is a snap , even on foot . A road atlas is good pair up with the gps ,as you see “ the big picture “ . When we got to Nashville, I didn’t realize how far West we went, and was stunned when my nephew said we were only four hours from St. Louis . Ill have to tell our daughter what , “ start the truck once in awhile “ really means, as battery was dead . We have WAY to much stuff in our home, those who move South have to de clutter big time , due to high shipping costs , no basements and in many cases , little closets , and their places look very nice . The weather here does suck, I haven’t worn long pants since Jan 24th. Looking ahead for shed hunting I’ll be layered up and muddy . Covid isn’t a thing down there for the most part . My nephew is very well off , and says things like , “ no Condoleazza Rice has no interest in running for anything “ I asked her straight out awhile back .” He went to school at SUNY Fredonia , and enjoys telling the upper ivy leaguers that …. Speaking to the workers in gun shops in Fla. they seem to grasp the differences and tolerate those from the good part of NYS . those who move can buy almost double the house ( cost wise ) based off the property tax savings alone . Think of what that means on the back end for them or their kids . Theyre short workers down there as well, signs all over , as much as $19 an hour for entry level , store clerks etc . teslas are very popular in Sarasota, Suburbans and Tahoe’s on the highways for travel all over the US . Guatemalans and Mexicans make up a large part of labor and construction crews . According to our friends who see them work daily , they out work us Americans by a lot .
-
Not likely , wife always wanted to ,I prefer to be near the kids . We live in a small house with low ,by NYS standards taxes , my pension is NYS tax free ,there’s not a large tax advantage for us . If our kids packed up id go with them . and Thanks !

Run down of the trip as we are back in NY . A camo hat helps tremendously when in rural areas down south and driving a Subaru with NY plates . Southern Hospitality is still a thing . I’ve never been called sir so often , and every server or person in general was super nice ,drivers don’t tailgate and let you in as soon as you put your signal on . Anyone in Buff, Roch, Syracuse etc and thinks traffic is bad has no idea ! Try 8 lanes through Atlanta at either 80 mph or stop and go for hours …. Even Chattanooga had bad traffic with off ramps backed up for miles . Nothing like your gps saying “ stay in the five left lanes .” Theres so many moving down south , there’s cranes everywhere, new roads, bridges and housing going up mile after mile . oh it’s my Bday what a sh!tty present ,to be back here The many gun shops and Walmart’s in several states, showed they don’t have anymore ammo then we do , with prices To match . Nashville isn’t what it was as little as 25 years ago when I walked into Toosies Orchid lounge got a beer and watched the band in the little corner stage . A place where careers were made . Today’s Nashville has all the soul of Applebee’s, with the crowds of Disney world , all these bars with “ stars “ names on the marquee are all the same cookie cutter tourists traps . I have no desire to return . My wife loses her sunglasses a lot, I bought her a $250 pair for the trip, lost three times found two, we believe they are at my nephews lake house, he’ll check this weekend . $400 dollar bottles of bourbon are fun to drink when I didn’t have to buy them . Next year I invoke the Chuck rule , named after my bil, who won’t pick up guests at the airport , I put on 5 hundred miles doing that ! As some flew into the cheapest airports even if it was an hour and a half each way . In fact we may fly and Uber when and if needed next year , guest are on their own .

Not hard to beat that battery back up has a very short run time . Those floats are at risk of getting hung up , and those walls show a problem from the ground not graded properly, or perhaps downspouts not long enough as well .
-
Your local FD will pump it out in no time flat . After that I’d install a Liberty pump ( made down the road in a Bergen ) and add one of their back ups that runs off a water line. Wait that’s my set up , and I’ve only gone on a few hundred “ water calls “ and had a couple issues here at home as well .

I honestly have a hard time counting all the friends and relatives that we have that left NYS . But this trip we visited 6 families / couples in FLA and 3 in Tennessee . We didn’t of course have time to visit anymore in Fla., and skipped more in the Carolina’s. The last stop in Tenn. our friends introducing us to a number of others from our area of NY, two on there street were from Penfield , the next town over from where we live . Almost all are people of means , lots of money left and leaving .

No state income tax , low property tax, and you pay school tax once, when you buy or build a home and it’s like a grand or two . Of course great country , mountains ,lakes , a city or two to visit , super nice and friendly people .
