  1. You guys are killing me with the Fireballs!!! Started many years ago as a joke between a friend and I. "Not seeing much ", " you better eat a Fireball ." We'd text back and forth . I just told him how it's caught on here. His reply, " they're lucky for everything but teeth ." Good luck fellas, I'll be out next Fri.
  2. I hunt a large farm ( acres in the thousands ) we have rules so I can only shoot certin size bucks. Ok sometimes it seems to be a sliding scale , for many years( in my 29 year there ) I was happy to shoot a 1 1/2. A few years back my little piece of the farm got placed under the rules. So basically in bow even or outside the ears , if I score in bow , I'll wait for bigger in gun ( wait not score .... Lol ). So some years I don't take any bucks , although I can't remember the last one ,most I take a doe and buck. That's more then enough meat for two of us. Coonhunter well said ! Tonight as I parked a young guy was there waiting , he wanted to use our posted land as a route to the field on the next farm to shoot one of the 20 turkeys that were In that field . I said sure even tough I was hopping in a stand near to that spot . We walked In together . I was in my stand , when bam bam and my woods went silent . But I smiled as I knew he got his bird, even if it may have effected my hunt.
  3. Give it a shot. I know two farms near me and I mean NEAR that would say yes .
  4. Me any where the first two weeks of Nov. If I had to pick 7 days is go with the 4th through the 11th. The 4 is our wedding anniversary, she knows I'll take her out in Jan. But then I'm only working 4 days in the month of Nov.
  5. Almost shot this in honor of one of our newest members!
  6. 8 pr came buy looked like. a 2 1/2 oops doe under me...
  7. On stand in thicket next to no wind. The cornfield edge i walked along , is tore up. Only thing not much cover in this stand .
  8. You're not alone, for the first time in years, I could not find my stand....
  9. Some wind at home, but it's rocking here at my spot! We'll see how it is at the stand I plan on using . Edit. At stand light winds , this spot is at the base of a slope and away from open fields . Turkeys all over the place.
  10. That's funny, my friends out west call anyone from the east, a flatlander.....
  11. My Mulie DIY to Montana , air fair , deer elk combo lic. ($900) And camping out for a week, plus processing way less the 2k. My buddy drove over from Seattle so we used his p/u .
  12. Rain and 25-30 mph winds with gusts to 40 on Sat. Sunday dry 20- 25 mph winds . May sit a bit Sunday and Monday.
  13. Check out this link. Over 1/3 of the state ( 30 million acres) is open to,public hunting . Narrow,it down and call there DNR office where it appears to be a good spot, and they'll be very helpful in telling you great spots. http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/hunterAccess/public.html
  14. I did Montana. Got a Mullie and my two buddies got Wt. as the do every year . Now to be fair my friends friend lives there, but it's easy to get to hunt ranches there . When he moved there he just drove around and asked it was pretty easy. One spot they go the guy used to guide and now a days just lets guys use his cabins for $50 a night, and he tells you where to hunt ! My buddy was out glassing and a truck pulled up and asked if he was staying at so and so's cabins , then told him To go drive to such and such a spot as it was loaded with deer right now . It's not at all like NY.... Visit some other state forums and read, introduce yourself and ask for advice . I know guys who a did DIY elk hunt in Colorado and each bow killed Bulls . lots of public and BLM land out West one can just hunt .
  15. First name and badge #. Since being promoted to LT no longer have # but still use it . Been thinking of changing it, possibly to " user name." My favorite name here is, Sits in Trees .
  16. Sat. Is out , calling hours and windy . Little less wind Sunday and good direction for my leeward side stands.
  17. Nice gun shop however it brought so many to the area just prior to deer season , that we had major tresspass issues from their customers .
  18. I'll be out Sunday and Monday, perhaps Sat afternoon . Been a couple weeks, starting to get pumped !
  19. Nice ! I have an early DW 6 inch .22. Best trigger on any handgun I've owned by far. sold my SS 8 inch heavy barrel .44 a couple years back to a guy who needed that one to complete his DW collection .... Those guns were top notch back in the day , pity the company went in and out of business so much . Creekside gun shop used to have a weekend shooting festival where all the gun makers would send reps. The DW guy would check out timing and lock work , take them part and change any weak or worn parts for free ! enjoy! That's a sweet set up !
  20. Be carefull someone placed some large rocks under it ! I think my wife may have dragged them there after I hung it ..... i am thinking of when I can have you guys over to hunt though .
  21. Eat some asparagus first !
  22. I'm all set , plus it's a it of a drive to Moogs, something like 3 miles .... this summer I bought a Lone Wolf hang on plus sticks of of a member here, Terry . That is a good price on a great set up.
  23. In 1,979 I went on a 9 day canoe trip in Northern Ontario , it rained 6 days . My rain gear was a vinal poncho .... We canoed in the rain , set up camp, and built fires in the rain . In that trip I learned that I could survive quite well being wet for days..... Today I don't bow hunt in anything more then a passing shower. Why ? Same reason I don't sit out on the patio in the rain , I just prefer to wait for better weather.
