Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's official. Yesterday between 3:30 and 3:38PM I let 2 arrows fly, the first two of my bow hunting career. At 3:30, after a 5 minute staring contest between me and a good-sized doe, she dropped her head allowing me to draw and release, the first arrow passing through both lungs. She was dead within minutes. After freaking out that I had actually hit what I shot at and texting a couple of friends that were also hunting in the area, I notice a pair of doe walking down the hill just out of the tree line to see what all the commotion was about. By this time, I was also standing out of the tree line. The both looked at me, paid little mind and continued grazing. The pressure off from the first shot, I was emboldened to see just how relaxed they were. I took a few steps toward them and stopped when they looked up. This continued until I was about 20 yards out. Standing there, looking the nearest doe in the eye, I nocked my second arrow and drew as she was looking at me. At 3:38, the second arrow flew and ended up being a lung/gut shot. She took a couple of hours to pass. That's how my bow hunting experience began: 2 doe within 8 minutes. West Point is definitely 3P and I'm definitely going to spend some time here. Like I said, though, my DMP's are in 3M, and I intend to use them. I'll ask around and find someplace, I'm sure. WPNY

Hey, everyone. I just got my license today and was fortunate enough to get a pair of DMP tags for 3M. Now my only issue is that I'm new to the area and haven't the faintest idea where to hunt. At the moment, all I've got is my grandpa's 12 gauge 870 Wingmaster, so no bow or muzzleloaders (YET!!). Any advice you all could give me would be much appreciated. Thanks! WPNY

I know that feel! I totally lucked out. I tried just about everything within 3 hours and barely slid into one about an hour and a half away. One guy said he had a waiting list 50 people long. WPNY

Ladies and Gentlemen, First and introduction: I am in the US Army, currently stationed at the US Military Academy at West Point and I have recently decided to learn the art of hunting. My motivations are likely similar to many of yours. I would prefer to feed my family something other than the mystery meat from the commissary/grocery store. I would also like to raise my boys (number 3 is due any minute now) to understand where our food comes from and the impact our lives have on the world in which we live. Plus, I just kind of like guns. Nothing wrong with that, right? So, being brand new to this venture, I'm looking for a little help from those of you who know this area best. I've inherited my grandpa's 1979 Remington 870 Wingmaster (2.75", modified choke) 12 ga, which will be my main gun until further notice. That said, I'm not certain as to what kinds of ammunition are best suited to different kinds of game. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. X for deer, Y for turkey, Z for rabbit, etc. Also, if anyone in my general vicinity would be willing to take on an eager student and teach me, that would be awesome! I'll be taking the Hunters Ed course in October, which I'm super stoked about, but that won't teach me how to actually bring something home, you know? Thanks! WPNY
