Doc did you send them skeeters to my side of the state? Suckers were about to carry me away last night, thats ok I was shooting great so I didn't mind!
  2. I need a new string and cables on my bow and after polling everyone at work about their shop of choice Flying Arrows and Brown's were the top two. Which would you recommend over the other? Flying arrow has better hours, Browns has been around forever and they all know their stuff there. I would go with Browns if you can get in. There is also a shop that is on Saratoga Lake, Saratoga Bait and Tackle, his prices are real low and he seems to be a good guy. I have used the saratoga guy twice now for strings, you will need to tune your bow after reguardless of what he says.
  3. My wife stopped on the way into work last night and got hers, she got a permit for 5r, which is close to home.. so that gives us a grand total of 8 tags...
  4. "I was that kind of person a few years back- before I started bowhunting" Bingo, that right there is it... why was it okay for you to go through that phase and not some one else? Different people go through different phases, some don't come out of it and some turn into guys like you. But it is their choice. I would love to see pics of the deer that other AR guys have of some of their first few deer. I guarentee that they ain't all wall hangers. I know you ain't that way Sam as you have just said. And what is so wrong with being proud of killing alot of deer so long as they don't go to waste?

ahh non-sense, that makes you have to concentrate harder..haha darn skeeters!
  6. Doc there is an interesting article in Outdoor Life this month titled.. "Trophy Deer, How the craze hurts hunting" It is all about the untold down side to AR and this obsession with big bucks, you would love it. I looked but its not available online, just in print.
  7. I have bought steps like those for @$1.50 a piece a Dicks after the season was over. Might have even been a dollar.
  8. Ah I see, not the one I am looking for but that is one heck of a price. I can ask around with my dog buddies to see if any one is inetrested.
  9. What model is it? If it is a Sport G3 I may be interested, but by the price it sounds like it isn't.
  10. Just went out and got mine, one DMP for 3j, and not one for 4j..2nd year in a row. I got a chuckle out of the trip, the guy in front of me got his for 8y, the girl asked what his econd choice was and he said 4s....obviously he didn't look at the chart before hand. There are none for 4s unless you are a landowner or disabled vet and there is zero chance for a 2nd choice. When I told him that he looked at me like I had two heads. Ofcourse he was cross eyed.....lol

I shoot until my arms are tired and then hang it up. 3 at a time from 20yards to 50 depending on the day. Some times I stay at 20 and give up after a few because something just isn't right. Other times I have that invincible aim and can shoot till dark from any where and hit the mark. I will say that I have crested the mid summer slump and have tightened up my groups alot.
  12. I hunt 3j and just outside of AR in 4t. We have not seen any more bucks and on top of that not much over a 6 in the last ten years. Maybe because I am on the northern edge of it? I can also tell you that we hunt over by Schoharie where there are no AR's and have seen "big" bucks there on numerous occassions.
  13. I think I might wait this year but who knows...its awefull hard to pass up a good shot with the bow. Last year I shot a scrubby 6 opening day of bow, if I had looked a little closer I would have realized he was on the small size weighing only 115#. But then again we hunt our one area to kill deer and help the farmer out by thinning out the population, its a tough decision sometimes.
  14. Thats why they say to aim for the lower third, if it does jump the string you are still ok. Ofcourse thats easier said then done when you are at full draw and excited. As far the bows being faster, they ain't fast enough yet. If a deer wants to go it will, it may not avoid the arrow but it is amazing how fast they can move.
  15. I think most kids would be fine as long as they are with an adult, but then it depends on the adult for proper teaching. My brother and I started at a young age, but again we have a good Father that taught us well, not every kid will. I would guess most kids that are fresh out of training courses are safer than a good percentage of adults, simply due to the fact that they just learned it. Aren't there states in the south that allow kids to hunt with an adult at about 6 years old? I think my boy could squeeze the trigger on one with me there to help and he is almost 7.
  16. Ok Saratoga guys... Kaydeross R+G is having one 8/22 and one 9/26. I am going to try and stop in at Wilton R+G to see if they any thing posted too.
  17. Cool pics they got there.... its evolution at work...
  18. It deffinetly isn't my cup of tea but I can see where the people that hunt down by the city areas are hurt by it. A 100 yard difference may just help get rid of a few more deer down there. I personally am more from the school of thought that it is better not to be seen or heard while hunting.
  19. Yes that is a bit silly for bows eh? I assume you mean distance from a house or dwelling, alot of guys wrongfully think you have to be 500' from a road too.
  20. It would be nice to know the why's behind everything. Alot of guys got their permits cut, I feel bad for the strictly gun hunters in those areas. Alot of guys have been saying they haven't seen much these last few years, maybe DEC has verified that?
  21. Maybe they figured on a large winter kill? Don't know, but 900 is better than 0 where we are in 4S, unless you are a Landowner or vet...good thing for bow tags. We have LOTS of does running around too. And then right next door in 4T there are plenty of permits, 2700 to be exact. I don't know if I am even going to bother with trying to get a doe permit this year for our other spots.
  22. If you consider buying new, try to wait until around the camping show in March, dealers are very willing to deal then. They have to make room for the new models coming out and will throw in alot of freebies to sweeten the pot. And as a rule of thumb, they can knock about 30% off the msrp of a new camper. I see alot of them hybrids out there, I like them and we may go to a smaller one some day when the kids are older. They are far more easy to go some where with then a 31' camper. And I wouldn't need a Suburban to tow one around with too. We sit at just about 50' total when all hooked up to the truck.. that was a jump from a 12' pop-up!!!
  23. http://www.empirecenter.org/pb/2009/10/empirestateexodus102709.cfm I agree steve, NY is vastly different and that is what is great. But as you read through that report it gives the reasons people are leaving and compares NY to other states. Basically the same reasons you give, lack of land access (developement), cost of living, taxes...Its not like this in other states. I'm not saying the grass is greener, just easier to buy. My wife and I are lucky she works in healthcare, I myself in food in a healthcare environment, we can go just about any where and get a job. It can be very tempting to leave at times, but we don't. I do daydream though....wouldn't it be nice to wake up and have a long list of animals to hunt for the day....aahhh someday
  24. Good luck Bill! My wife passed a stone that was 9mm long and 4mm across, she was pregnant at the time so when we went it to get her checked out she was the star of the maternity ward. And to think I yelled at her and told her to go back to sleep and leave me alone. ;D Get your self fixed up and then go out and shoot a slammer this year!
