  1. they survey what they can get their hands on at meat cutters, taxidermists shops, voluntary check stations, the rare public land temporary check stations, etc that make up that 15,000 if that's the number. as of a couple years ago they have a slip the size of a diner order slip that had all kinds of data to record, one being age. many DEC techs are somewhat trained on tooth wear and replacement of the lower jawbone. i can vouch that many are really good but some couldn't age a deer if their lives depended on it. problem i see is since DEC has been plugging the whole voluntary "let young bucks go and watch them grow" they've been more excepting of pooling data from taxidermists and especially QDM co-ops, where as before they didn't want to because they claimed it'd skew the data sample collected. QDM co-ops have extremely low numbers of yearling and in some cases young buck harvests.
  2. i look at them as estimates and not exact numbers to take to the grave it does paint the picture in each aggregate or WMU though. it's interesting that the chance of seeing a 3.5 yr old buck is at least double in most WMUs when comparing to a handful of others. also when comparing the harvest ratio you know some areas having to have a really good buck age structure then others. if you save each years to look at you can notice what areas really produce a lot of deer and what areas simply held back less that year with letting the lead fly. i'm really beginning to like how they are presenting the info now. also it's crazy to be involved with such a large QDM co-op and others in the same WMU and know what the trend is before DEC publishes it. lol
  3. seems like i don't buy them very often at all. Rain-X is what i usually end up getting i think. maybe the beam style it's definitely not up their with the higher end ones cost wise. I use the rain-x washer fluid when i can find it on sale when a place is over stocked. every now and then i wipe them off to clean them and don't turn them on with a iced or heavily frosted up windshield. seem to last a long time and work just fine. don't jump skip across the windshield but still gets it all. why someone would buy simple stuff like this at a dealership and when they say it's bad, only to get wallet raped is beyond me. most places auto stores that are cheaper typical install the stuff for free if you buy it there if you need help.
  4. talk it out with him. to him it's worth all of $500 all day. to anyone else it's worth $350 according to the books and collectors you've talked to. to you it's worth all of $400 any day of the week though. you're spending money to drive out there to go see him, not by the gun. tell him that. as old as he is he can't get his panties in a bunch at least for to long if you level with him. he's been around too long to be like that. that's my take. older guys that i know i'd tell them they're a tight old bastard and it'll end up in someone's wood shed if i'm not taking care of it.
  5. last night i grilled a whole venison backstrap with a secret rub. also on the grill was Lupo's chicken spiede kabobs (for you Binghamton/southern tier folks). last on the grill was kabobs with sweet peppers and shrimp with old bay seasoning. all that was basted with butter simmered with olive oil, sea salt, and garlic. then mashed taters and green beans fixed the same as my last post. no pics. us and some close cousins that recently went through some tough times, seven in total, couldn't finish it all. multiple second plates. left overs are probably what we'll be eating tonight.

  10. Next was a flight. Order as follows from close to far; Oatmeal stout - always good (quite better fresh and on tap vs can) Brown ale - good dark ale Sometimes neipa - good but not great Sho nuff dipa - best of the flight Hibiscus moonwalk - berry champagne like sour ale ESB - English pale ale All are good. 11. Met my brother and his other half at the brewery right down the road from his house. First up was a wheat ale "Spring Fever", a citrus ale with chamomile. Not bad but chamomile was a little weird. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  12. never jerky is awesome and ground meat is the worst parts cuts. save the best for roasts and steaks. still pays to trim well. deer fat gets pretty gross and hard when dehydrated. i've used some i got from a butcher shop versus stuff i do one my own and there's quite a difference. i see a bunch of silver skin but yours doesn't look bad.

  14. i see this thread got resurrected. regardless, i didn't notice this thread. that sling is the best sling i've ever owned. for deep woods or a heavy gun Slogan slings stay put and they give a touch so hiking a ways doesn't beat you up. I use their magnum sling to on my 12 or so lb varmint rifle being on the move for woodchucks. i've used others and they killed my shoulders.

  21. if it's single lane and they're tailgating me i just don't do anything sudden. they'll get around when the dashed lines come. if it's multi lane it seems to never happen as i try to say right for two lanes and middle for three lanes. i better not be in the left lane camping out. if they're tailgating me and i have nobody in front of me it's my fault despite if they hit me it's legally all on them.
  22. wait. how did jesus get lost in the first place??
  23. After drinking the good stuff this is a pretty light session. Dont realize it until you go back to it. Still better than a lot of your common beers available at every supermarket. To make it taste better its poured into a glass that I brought back from the brewery. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
