  1. we haven't had a really dry spring or summer spell yet though. i feel that plays a big role in antler development. age might hurt him a bit though here on out, so they say. i can't tell you much from personal experience for bucks reaching that age. it's mostly smaller antlered for their age bucks and home bodies that make it to older ages here too. some i know who hunt older bucks like that more often in other destination states say once that get that old some become almost predictable, despite still being hard to get close enough to seal the deal.
  2. i don't think there's anything i wouldn't hunt at least once. although i'm a dad now so i'm not sure i'd be going on say an asian water buffalo hunt with a bow. that's also mean the family would be toted along with me, at least to the destination, not out on the actual hunt. north american big game would probably take precedence over other continents, despite game and experience abroad might trump some here.
  3. my cousin's husband is Portuguese. he has old photos of his (insert however many greats)grandfathers harvesting whales. that's how those seaside communities survived. some of the coolest photos i've ever seen.
  4. if you covered up the antlers it still looks like a beast and it's not even juiced up from the rut. i've never heard of one getting that old around here.
  5. i love it how in larry's video and the OP trail cam photos both aren't wide open woods with little to nothing growing in the under story. hard to get a buck to just 4.5 yrs old around here without it being legendary. lol i just hope to see one that big that's free ranging some day. it'd be nice to take it but i'd be happy just to see it and get the heart rate up.
  6. the biggest deer i know of don't ever see the light of day. they're enjoyed but keep a secret sitting in someone's trophy room or even better a basement to collect spider webs. not a single one is poached either. midwest or out of state bucks, holy hell it's like the thing has it's own "local" facebook page.
  7. if you added in a 380 by the time you ran it and the 9 through the paces fatigue might set in, especially if the 9mm is a small snappy thing. i'd hate to have a slightly limp wrist by then causing a failure to feed when you get to the 45.
  8. people put too much emphasis on an older buck having this wisdom or brain power to out smart a hunter. it's a deer and you're a human. most of the time a buck has a certain tendency or pattern in the day to day behavior that coincidentally makes them harder to kill. couple that with the fact that deer will do what they need to survive without cutting corners. hunters that are people can get sloppy and do things while hunting they know they shouldn't. location and effort to keep that location is also a big deal. the best hunter in the world can't make big bucks be in an area they typically aren't for whatever the reason. the best locations are either known with someone else just waiting to take over the spot or a great deal of effort is put in to make the location what it is and keep it that way.
  9. come on! they've been working long and hard to just find work! it's been real tough as they keep getting turned down for some reason.
  10. oh wow. it just occured to me that i know guys who claim to have both. moot point i guess. i mean both would have to be maintained. can't run'em hot and dirty forever or they start to get disfunctional.

  12. kind of weird i'm excited for opening day and still will go out. i really don't put forth much effort that early in the season though and don't hunt much. more scouting than actually hunting.
  13. haven't met Biz but he's a likable guy, hence getting the attention for this thread. i thought it was pretty funny and wasn't the least bit offended. i have cousins, friends, and class mates from highschool who are gay. i even got placed in college housing with a gay room mate. been to gay weddings. i don't see the post as anything more than a coincidental joke about Biz.
  14. see some people with big power boats on the larger lakes out this way. not practical at all. pontoons though. now you're talking a fun time fishing, swimming, grilling, and enjoying the day.
  15. it's different kinds of recoil but i've shot max loaded 50 cal ML and rifles up to i guess 300 win mag with 180gr loads. i have shot 12ga slug guns but not too many times at all. haven't gotten bit yet, so i guess i'm due. seems like there's some pretty experienced individuals in here that have probably fired more rounds that have gotten bit. i probably should've just kept scrolling.
  16. I've got a very large Coleman xtreme cooler but its too large to be practical. For fathers day I just got the ozark trail cooler in smaller size. So far so good. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  17. Bottom-land breakup ...expensive but very functional camo. Definitely getting a big rack mounted on the wall with that stuff. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  18. If it's on the farm then yes. Every time. Public land and especially up north, never. I don't use cans then. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. I've never gotten stuck unless in a muddy creek crossing with steep banks. I have some banks very steep that you have to back up to make it up. Its been pretty dependable. I work it hard but don't necessarily beat the hell out of it. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  20. Here's mine with the belly mower off and plow on. I use the brush hog behind it for heavy stuff like young trees in say crp fields kind of heavy mowing. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. i bought my house with 1 acre of yard and 2 acres of field. i found a Kubota B7200D 4-wheel drive with a 48" belly mower for under $4k but it was a deal. it was very low hours despite being older with a smashed hood, so it was thought to be junk without it. i bought an 8200 hood off a guy from an online ad. ground off and re-welded the hood to brackets to be positioned right to fit mine. i used it to clear and make the lawn 2 acres and then mow the tall grass a couple times a year in the acre of field that was left. then i used it to clear a couple food plots, skid some small logs, etc. i also have a 6' back blade to plow the driveway with it in the winter. it forced me to get a zero turn for the actual clean yard mowing though. the ag tires were hard to the yard plus is was like turning an aircraft carrier. didn't mow as clean as obviously the zero turn in have now. that's my insight. if you're not mowing a manicured lawn then go with a used compact utility tractor that's dependable. know that for that price you will need to fix something on it though to get a good deal.
  22. get sightings and trail cam pics every year around here. still few enough and spread out that i haven't seen one in wild or gotten a trail cam picture of one. yet a couple years ago someone shot a boar that dressed out at 250lbs almost under my most used stand.
  23. Washing down the tail end of dinner on the back deck. Deer in the corn field out back. Ok but only because I'm not much of a coffee drinker. If you like a hint of cream with your coffee instead of coffee with your cream in the am this is your beer. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  24. No go to beer but purple haze isn't bad. I'd drink it over regular run of the mill beers. It's not expensive either. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  25. Pick a date. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
