thought about testing that first but i'd only see black on the shelves.

gotta earn some pay to play

shoot them all and remember you have to draw the thing on a deer. picking the bow is easy. picking accessories can make you hate a bow or love it.

there's some places i'm going to check out down there too. not concerned with records. if there's opportunity by cracking open a second story window and shooting into a backyard garden, i'm open to it. hold my beer.

not sure when i'd be going but when i do i'll be all in. try to make it a hunting trip with some family and friends even. seems like an awesome place.

i used to scout the farm leading up to regular gun season as hardly anyone bowhunted it. this one field every year would have bucks sparring in hard antler. it was as if it was the areas proving grounds for the deer. a curious kid i'd ditch everything but binos and belly crawl in the open field to get closer. then i'd lay there and watch it all unfold. there so long at times i'd have my back soaking wet from dew. close encounters kept happening to the point i started thinking it was funny that i didn't have a bow in my hand through part of the season and only gun hunted. i did know some bowhunters with limited success. bowhunting successfully always seemed to be a commendable achievement. still i thought it seemed like a tall order to take close encounters further and actually "seal the deal". i had it in the back of my mind that it could break me of my success with a gun that i'd grown used to at the time. after i got into bowhunting it seemed i always had encounters that left me saying "if i only had a gun...". i figured it was at least making me a better gun hunter though so i kept at it and evolved my skills. fast foward to now and i say i enjoy bowhunting more than i do gun hunting. there's what they call a bowhunter's bubble. when you're that close to game you feel accomplishment and appreciate the experience whether or not a deer hits the dirt. you're taking it all in with senses pinned into overdrive. yet everything else outside the bubble fades away. i've had the same thing happen on occasion with a gun but it often happens with a bow due to necessity of being that close. when i hunt with a trad bow versus a compound it just amplifies it even more so. Then 40 yards away seems like a mile. i was always meant to be a bowhunter.

talking with different people and most likely going to make it a point to get to different NYS parks in the future. this will probably be one of them. not all hunted but this one seems like it should be. at least NY has the parks thing going for them.

nothing special and honestly i didn't strip the whole thing first. we'll see how it works. I think all the cans were Rustoleum. First coat was grey auto primer. next various colors of their ultra flat non-reflective "camouflage" line. lighter tan color was just a flat matte 2X coat can of theirs. the top section i didn't do much with where i missed i can't imagine it'll last long if i did. bottom section was bad. I know of a guy that tinkered with DIY powder coating with an old kitchen oven he picked up. that would almost be the way to go. i think it'd have to be all the solid and one color though. for the cost of spray paint i did it the easier way.

Summit Open Shot climber was getting beat up. Finish left lots a shiny aluminum spots on it from over a decade of use. I've been busy but each morning I gave it another coat. Came out alright I think. It should work just fine. I've got new shrink tubing for the cables once i pull the old stuff off to inspect them. Setup is only 14 lbs so I use it a lot. Even in timber during rifle season. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

haha.... i never even looked. i just wanted to post my graffiti. seems like an odd spammer post from hanz. screw it i'll start a new thread.

Ha! i'm 34 and no. i don't think my dad has gotten one either and he's had his forever.

some are getting them but i know some haven't. my pistol clerk told me that the state said do not assume you'll be given personal notice of any particular kind. same as when you own the gun it doesn't come with a law book. it's your responsibility to stay informed. Right on the state police registration site it says what was in my previous reply. i wouldn't bank on getting anything.
-
every 5 years after the date your permit was issued. should say it right on it. if not call your county pistol clerk. in your case, you don't have to re-certify until that November, versus sooner by the end of January. ....i'd still be an overachiever and send it in late January though.

....the point being that entire post was sarcasm and should sound absolutely absurd to everyone here, regardless if your a trophy hunter or not. therefore, someone who posts that and actually means it is not our fellow hunter. I highly doubt they're in such prevalent numbers too. Stubby included, even if some of his posts come off as a front with content maybe a little simply to contest others that disagree with him. your first statement in the quote is disheartening in it's intent when i read it. the second statement i kind of agree with, despite coming across as embellished fulfillment. predicated on the assumption humbleness is still there.

look at all that awesome habtitat around him and lush food plots. he must taste like garbage. no doubt some on here wouldn't waste a bullet on that deer .....it's okay i'll take one for the team and burn my tag on it, so as to not burden anyone else with such rancid meat. uurrgghhh should i label the packages that go in the freezer as "trophy deer A" so there not mistaken with others?

Finish was beaten off it from a decade of use. Repainted it. Didn't now what I wanted. Ended up with this. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I agree with lighter is better. My stand is a total of 14 lbs. It's a summit open shot. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

it was a disappointment for sure.

yup you still have time. save up some extra coin and get a better scope. good suggestions on here. i've got multiple model Nikons, a Bushnell Elite 3200, and have been impressed with Vortex optics too. When you do mount it, do it right with good bases and rings. use blue loctite on screws, torque driver to tighten screws equally to spec, scope rings straight, touch up the rings by lapping for contact, and use a bubble to get the scope level with the bore and action. you probably don't have the means to do this, but whomever mounts your scope should be. if you run into trouble let me know. i think we're relatively close if i recall.

looks promising. hope they stick around come hard antler to give you some opportunity. better than my first card pull this year. half my pics were of coyotes and some baby ones. not good.

they get a medal for every year they manage to not get executed under his command by upsetting him, even if due to the weather. that's no joke and a huge accomplishment! i mean i wouldn't be surprised if at least one of those generals saved the whole country from mass persecution and "cleansing". if at least one of those men didn't draw his bath and make sure the rubber duckies were in there, i don't want to think what terrible things could happen. -
we're running into issues in regions out this way where DEC wildlife techs that hand out DMAPs are asking if co-ops need as many as we do. crazy idea because compared to DMPs we fill a much higher percentage. I think they're chomping at the bit knowing that when we choose to scale back, for each DMAP no longer dished out they probably can justify handing out 3-4 DMPs. What i don't understand is how they aren't seeing that there's sustained harvest numbers year after year, indicating the deer are there. at this point we're just driving home that if you're most likely getting a DMAP don't apply for a DMP unless you feel you really need it. also encouraging many to use their antlerless only bow/muzzleloader tag first and foremost before anything else. problem exists with the idea they'd have to sit on it during rifle season. pretty dumb. with exceptions of DMAPs and damage permits, antlerless tags should be all lottery and over the counter, in which you can fill any of them any time of the season with whatever implement during a season you paid to hunt with. no logistics of what over the counter tag to use when or regular season hunters being obligated to fill only an over the counter buck tag during the reg season.

i don't have a tow behind yard rake or a "bagger" for my mower. if i did, a thick bed of grass clippings would be a great idea. i don't though and i'm not raking up a bunch by hand, therefore newspaper it is. just have to keep people from throwing them away on me. worked a little on the garden this weekend. plants are growing like crazy. peppers and zucchini are about to hit hard soon. still pulling buds to the plants growing but can't keep up. some peppers and zucchini got by me and were ready. already had to add soil to keep the onions buried.

some great advice given already. scouting is a great idea. remember with public land deer tend to go or "hole up" where hunters either won't go or can't go. here in the southeastern area of the state it very well might be the latter. make a donation to a local business or get an in with someone neighboring public land to gain access from somewhere other than a trail head to either get you in undetected or further than others are willing to go. public land deer are schooled faster than less pressured deer. setup with a plan and don't ignore all the basics of bowhunting like wind, scent control, etc. just because deer hole up in places doesn't mean they aren't curious and venturing a little. especially during the various stages of the rut which helps a lot. some of my best luck on public land has been with edges created by cover or terrain that allow bucks to scent check larger areas of high activity without exposing themselves or going there. also another one is natural funnels created by cover or terrain that have the deer flocking to inaccessible sanctuaries off of public land or otherwise restricted zones of the public land off limits to hunting for whatever reason. get in those spots early though and go in differently so you're not just pushing the deer passed your spots sooner before shooting light. you might feel like you got burned if you don't see much, but know that vacation days during Tues through Thurs are far better than Friday through Monday to hunt public land. Less people activity and deer feel less pressure to temporarily reduce their activity. leave no trace that you were there to tip off other hunters who might pass through by chance. even then you'll have run ins with hunters directly or indirectly. have a plan B. Good luck! if I was closer i'd say we could try to meet up.

more than likely Mayweather by decision and uneventful, despite advances by McGregor that will eventual get worn out chasing him. I really hope McGregor knocks some humbleness into him though. Nobody wants Mayweather to win because he's a jerk. If it has to be McGregor to make him fall then so be it. I don't want McGregor to KO him, so people say it was a lucky shot. I want Mayweather to survive the first blow, be disoriented as all heck, and then get TKO'd.
