  1. a lot has been chopped in area of my house. out on our co-op it's much later day corn and probably be up for a little longer. seems they're all chopping now. I'd rather they pick corn but oh well.
  2. met some of those MTV stars and from road rules too. not all reality tv stars are equal. reality TV is kind of hit or miss but you'd get credit from me. separate direction from "bangin".... two of my cousins have met a ton of the deadliest catch show capt and crew. lol.... ok people but crazy as bat sh*t and have their issues I guess.
  3. I've met a lot of politicians especially ones representing this area. not too many movie stars at all. my wife's boss met eli manning while he was at camp here in Albany. she's not up on football at all. she was talking with him basically alone and just thought he was another SUNY Albany college student. he thought is was great and hiliarious. she told her other half about the encounter with said player still not knowing who the player was. her other half flipped sh*t as he's a Giants fan. I've met a lot of popular hunting personalities.... Larry weishuhn aka Mr. Whitetail, Don and Kandy Kisky, John and Gina Brunson, Greg Ritz, Lee and Tiffany Lakosky, whole Bone Collector crew, Chris Brackett, Tim Andrus (Realtree Pro/Rush Outdoors TV Host), QDMA associated folks, etc.
  4. you're already better off. you could know very little and still be ok. know that deer fat is awful, not like beef or pork fat. "silver skin" is the outer membrane of the muscle and is tough. do you best and what's practical to get rid of those two and you can't go wrong. when cutting hide do it from inside out otherwise you'll get hair all over and dull your knife. clean the knife good before cutting meat. flexible fillet or boning knife work well to get the meat off the bone. just pull off each "muscle" at a time. stay away from the lymph nodes throughout a deer. GrowingDeerTV have a good video online about where they are. search for it. certain muscles in the hind quarter can be turned into cubed meat or steak. some larger portions can be roasts. inside the carcass are thinner strips of lean meat (tenderloins) that are good anyway you make them. top of the back along the spine on either side are the back straps and typical cut into steaks. front shoulders and everything else are best for ground meat or slow and low cooked roasts/pulled venison.
  5. I agree. all that factors in.... in the same area I've seen bucks the same verified age tip scales and weigh around 45 lbs different from one another dressed weight. also draught, winter forage, and soil quality can be added to that.
  6. have at it and pee in it. doesn't hurt at all. boot traffic near it does more harm than the urine if it's not a place you're in there often. don't touch the over hanging branches. they need to stay alive too.
  7. my dad bought his at Woolworth years back when he was a teenager. it's a wood stocked gloss 30-06 7600 with black and white end caps. he's got high rings and an old bushnell 3-9x40 scope on it. it still is his go to gun. I've taken quite a bit of game with it. ...only bad thing with them is I think the triggers are junk. a lot of travel and creep. not overly heavy though.
  8. it's like bread pudding.... more of an English/UK thing I think.
  9. county tax department if you've got connections. for what you're doing might want to just get one from hunterra maps. it'll last a pretty long time. can show topo lines and stuff too. I've used a photoshop type program to connect photos taken from zoomed in google earth screen shots but that's a PITA.
  10. hopefully this works. PDF of the report attached along with only pic of the jaw bone I've got right now. Don't need to worry about bucks and info blacked out. 2015_doe#120_CAedited.pdf
  11. I've had one since my 2 yr old was born. shaved on and off. I keep it trimmed though for work. stays pretty short.
  12. see was also taken pretty early in the season and was dry. meaning she didn't have milk. may not have had any fawns her last year, but could've lost it or them early too.
  13. haha... then you really wouldn't believe me at all then if I told a couple have been 20.5 and one 15.5 from surrounding QDM co-ops. think about it how many here have let a mature doe walk whether your knew it was or not? everyone's used to buck ages not doe ages. bucks' lives are very different and conducive of a short life span.
  14. some of my lighter ones I can draw while bent at the waist while maintaining good form. otherwise I draw level then bend and come to anchor.
  15. I'm not out that way anymore but the list is posted. call a couple closest ones up. heck of a buck. congrats! spined shot deer happen. buddy of mine spined a deer over 200" in ohio. shaking like a leaf so bad I'm not surprised. both yours and his are hanging on the wall though and that counts.
  16. just don't fall off and have to cancel your hunting season. haha
  17. so the season is almost here. I hope many of you have shot and verified bows are sighted in for your broadheads. also get off that flat ground if you can. I don't condone screwing around in your actual stands to practice. however, get out and shoot from inclines, side hills, uneven ground, and if possible a treestand or similarly elevated position maybe in the back yard.

    Pins

I've hunted with a single pin before but my primary hunting bow has had pins going to 50 or 60 yards.
  19. dad's win 94 30-30 dad's Rem 7600 pump 30-06 dad's win 70 300win mag grandpa's (now mine) Rem 742 30-06 my abolt 30-06 my TC prohunter ML my first buckmaster compound (now father in-laws) techhunter elite compound PSE Evo compound PSE Bowmaddness compound Honda Ridgeline ....not many weapons. only the Ridgeline has taken a single deer though thankfully.
  20. every post you make is just to stir the pot. lets be honest. even other pot stirs on here post useful or legit hunting input. I'm reserving the right to think in real life, outside what you post on these forums, you'd probably be the first to boot someone's kitten down a flight of stairs. don't take it personal.
  21. I grew up using weed seeds, crunched fall leaves, and other stuff to check wind. the talc powder puffer bottles work great and are always with me out in the field. cheap red LED headlamps for walking in work great. evercalm is probably the scent I've used the most. I think it helps. the primos buck roar style grunt calls that work with a back pressure chamber work awesome. old style grunt tubes you'd almost pin the reed trying to reach out to a buck far away on a windy day. I'm sure there's more.
  22. too many family vacations and a couple days off related to DEC or legislative crap to try and make hunting better here in NY. weekend warrior this year with maybe partial day I can make up time on.
  23. well just don't slip and say "did you buy the right length because I don't know how they're supposed to go?" she'll screw you to the wall and say hold them.
  24. myself and 2nd opinion from a whitetail biologist who has a lot of verified experience doing it. those specifically weren't sent into the lab for cementum annuli analysis but we randomly send some in to back check the methods to the madness. which reminds me I was going to start up a thread and post one every so often. anything from fawn to well the 13.5 yr old I just got a CA report back on. ....to clarify the older doe was a guess. why I said 8.5 yr old. anything 5.5-6.5+ is worn to the point where most of the hard portions of the teeth aren't worn right down so it might vary a bit. we'd send teeth to the lab at that point if we really wanted to pin down an exact age. for management purposes knowing a doe is 4.5+ though is good enough for us. anything thought to be at least 3.5 yr old for bucks we're going to try to send in. in can get expensive though.
  25. lol.... from local folks around here and their experiences, you can get burned legally and financially by shooting a dog or cat. for that reason I've refrained from doing so. I don't know any feral dogs. always seem to have brain dead owners and collars. lot of feral cats though.
