  1. Naaa.... It's everything. Deer take is low every year as its bow only. Other species both plant and animal they worry about. DEC and state would never let them off the hook for being closed to deer hunting. Five Rivers is different supposedly related to it being a "watchable Wildlife site".
  2. I try not to worry at all about if I have bucks in the summer. once September and hard antler rolls around start to be concerned about stuff if warranted.
  3. bucks and properties are different. some home bodies and others we'll find out get shot miles away. better at least have water, food, cover, and doe that call the place home.
  4. lol.... sorry. a lot of people seriously believe that though. I know some. still hunting with no guarantee but it's expected they have success. when it doesn't happen there's someone else willing to take their place. sorry again. glad you were joking.
  5. I agree don't sight in at 200 yards. sight in at 100 yards. 50 yards won't be much different. I grew up shooting various 30-06's to take dozens of deer at close range. I've pretty much stuck with 150gr rounds. Mostly Remington Cor-lokts, then Winchester Powerpoints, and then Federal Fusions, in that order. vast majority of the deer were taken less than 100 yards out from a stand I hunt from the most with is a natural pinch point/funnel. two closest ones at 12 and about 20 yards. both didn't go 5' before they were stone dead. 12 yard distance deer (mature doe) was on a light run and the 20ish yard deer (2.5 yr old buck) a different year was trotting behind a doe.
  6. then you probably haven't learned anything. sure they get put in great spots but not even close. most of them that make a living doing it put crazy amounts of hours out in the woods that a person with a normal job wouldn't be able to. others that have a day job will typically work double shift after double shift to accrue enough time to go on a destination hunt somewhere and do that all over again to get in enough fall hunts.
  7. For learning a thing or two, but not really focused on educational.... Midwest Whitetail (webisodes way more educational and better than the time constrained tv show) Bowhunter TV Deer and Deer Hunting Meat Eater Jim Shockey's Uncharted (not for hunting tips but other stuff) I've picked up and tried a bunch of stuff with success.
  8. I've got a cheap plastic spin tester. works but nothing like a heavier metal one that's not as finicky. that's awesome you can make stuff like that. haven't had those kind of resources since college when had access to a machine shop. I don't test spine. just make sure it spins true and weigh as close to the same as possible.
  9. trying to make one state like another isn't even feasible. you can look at a specific thing another state does and debate how it'll effect our situation but to push toward making our state like another is absolutely ridiculous. there are so many variables that will never match up, you're time would be better served staring at your own rearend while spinning around in circles. stop equating our state to others. this state can be awesome and already is in some areas or properties. quit worrying about what's over the stateline and worry about what's in front of you. while you're at it talk and try to work with your neighbors. they're possibly is not the evil bambi vultures ruining your hunting that you think they are.
  10. Grow posted about nuts falling so it must be fall season. it got me thinking. What events, weather, or whatever trips your inner trigger where you now believe it to be Fall, feels like Fall, and all the sudden you can't think about anything but hunting? ...mine is simultaneously walking outside, feeling cold crisp air, smelling foliage change, hearing geese fly overhead, and seeing my breathe. It's on then. I'm a mess and the deer must have a six sense oh sh** moment. It's been that way for years. So what's your trigger?
  11. I can understand that. I don't live there now but grew up there. Immediate family still there. He's far from any known or suspected areas with contamination source. He's had water tested and it came back as zero. No worries there. Other less fortunate businesses much closer have had systems put in and been retested. It's hitting the mom and pop businesses hard.
  12. I used to hunt in 4J a bit. I may apply for DMPs this year. don't need them but thinking if I hunt there I should take doe if the opportunity should arise. Let me know if either of you are having trouble getting on deer in 4J public ground.
  13. Might be different for jerky or snack sticks. Both awesome. Stuff like bulk sausage, summer sausage, etc have a 10 lb of venison minimum per product. These venison products you'll pay by the pound based whatever you're getting. Like plain smoked hotdogs are cheaper than smokes dogs with cheese. If you like spicier hotdogs try the "stick dogs with cheese". I'd mix it up. Get different stuff not all your meat in one thing. It's all good.
  14. You'll get whatever's cut, ground, or any bulk sausage you'll get back right away. Products like hotdogs, jerky, snack sticks, etc you have to wait until January to February to get back as he's busy in fall both cutting deer brought in, doing beef, and pigs. Everything vac packed with printed labels except bulk sausage in ground tube sleeves.
  15. Just occurred to me from seeing pics I posted I lost a red limb band off the bottom set of limbs. I'm sure that'll fester in my head now.
  16. Took a break and moved out to part of back yard later. Was after legal hours. Too dark really for the iPhone to take pics. Elevated position off the back deck at 18.6 yards. I think I shot well even if I've shot regularly all year.
  17. Went out tonight at prime hunting time. Guessed where 50 was across the drive off I. Part of the front/side yard. Later ranged it at 49.1 yrds.
  18. I usually work back out a group of arrows at a time. I shoot instinctive though. Don't have a reference. Just stare at a place on target and shoot. Like throwing a baseball with muscle memory. you have to stay practiced though.
  19. Strattons will even come to your place and do beef. Greg has a hoist system on the back of a truck.
  20. October Mountain Products (OMP) makes it. Called the Versus Cradle. definitely worth the $ and the best bow vise out there IMO. Was going to take the hunting bow out this AM for a first shot pic but it was raining a little too hard for that. maybe tonight.
  21. Bit of a cold keeping me up. First and only shot tonight. I think my 3D bow is fine tuned enough inside. Got to get it outside when I have more time to finish setting it up.
  22. i'm not in one of those units but in WMU 4C where DMPs need preference points and you only get one if you do get one. I could do it about every year. if you have good ground and are willing in some of these units in question, you shouldn't ever be waiting for tags while watching groups of doe walk by.
  23. I like your response but your quoting skills I think need some work.
  24. Have it apart of the message in Tapatalk hit the plus sign to the left of the "write reply" box then tap the square box with the mountains in it ... Like this.
