  1. Must have to paint it and use high power scope or spotting scope? Otherwise you'd never know you hit it. I've shot further with a buddy. I had a 223 and he had a 338 lapua. Couldn't even tell I hit it except the splatter and faint knock sound. Sounds like fun. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  2. Not complete information here but I just might. I shoot NRA indoor precision pistol. 3 courses of fire slow, timed, and rapid. At my local rod and gun club on Thursdays after pistol some are breaking out the rifles. Not sure what people are bringing but it's informal so I'm sure I could shoot what I got. 3. So as a follow up... As of right now it's sighted in with Aguila Super Extra 40gr HV stuff that says 1255fps for MV on the box. I'm thinking this should be breaking down into subsonic somewhere around 30 yards with what i've got. Zero'd at 75 yards it was a 4" group but it was pretty windy on the mountain. constant of 10mph with gusts higher. Might be a bit much but the setup is inevitably for my kids. It's a BCA upper with 16" heavy bbl, 1:16 twist (cheaper). Warne single piece mount with a 3-9x40mm duplex scope i had. right now it's sitting on my Springfield Armory Saint Victor lower. I might walk it out from 25 yards and see if group clearly breaks down anywhere. Maybe change distance it's zero'd but 75 yards seems like a happy medium. at 25 or so it's well within an inch for POI.
  4. yea at the point where they reach subsonic i know bullets encounter stability issues. shooting Aguila super extra 40gr at 1255fps per the box. it a pretty nice setup. not any custom bolt action 22lr but nice. it was a bit breezy too despite i setup on the leeward side of the barn. just don't have much 22LR experience with anything other than a pistol at 20 or so yards and in. mostly indoors.
  5. I've shoot 22LR pistols a lot. growing up as a kid we'd shoot 22LR rifles at the farm at squrriels and stuff with open sights but never needed to sight in anything or really paid much attention to group size. Setup a 22LR rifle with 3-9x40 scope that hopefully my daughter will take to in the future and so i could have some fun at a sacrifice of a pretty short gun. i sighted it in at 75 yards and with a mediocre rest got a 3" group only tried one kind of ammo that seems to cycle well. what's your 22LR rifle sight-in/zero distance and what kind of groups do you get?
  6. i'm young. i can pull 80lbs with ease but do have an old shoulder injury from an auto wreck that flares up. that said i've dropped down to 60lbs still. when i'm older i'll do what moog said and drop all the way down to 40lbs. when i can't do that i'll still be a bowhunter but in the woods with a "crossgun" as some here call them until the day i can't even physically make it out there. whomever doesn't consider me a bowhunter with whatever crazy tech in vertical form they're also using can suck it.
  7. it's good to do that to prevent things like blight and it's just good practice. plant cover crop rye (NOT forage rye grass) and till it under each year if there's anything left. plot doesn't seem very big at all.
  8. they consume more than whatever is left over that you'd till under. especially assuming the deer have hit it pretty good by then.
  9. there's a local guy here that owns a pile of gun shops. there stuff is out to touch but you still fill out a form.
  10. around here in latham at Dick's last resort (Dicks Sporting Goods/Field & Stream) it's in accessible, behind the counter.
  11. if you've planted there year after year the soil could be low on nitrogen and pH is off. it might be too wet and compacted too, depending on what you've got for dirt in that area (i.e. clay). when conditions get bad the plants starve out easier.
  12. Hard to pick one but deep tending grunt of a buck followed by running through the leaves. Sometimes I'll hear it before I see what buck is making the sound and there nothing that can jump start your heart more. Snort wheeze is funny I went decades before hearing one. I hear them more from middle aged bucks but I heard my first one from a button buck! He was chasing a little doe that wasn't having it. Sound straight out of a TV hunting show but it was the smallest buck in the woods. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  13. I think it's best to PM me that way we can get all info, to fill out ticket or however many you buy. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  14. Wasn't planning on it (the expense) but I can. Typically I've sent a picture of filled out ticket(s) if not in person. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  15. model 1897 has a feel no other has to but it feels like any wrong move you might lose a thumb. model 12 is more user friendly.
  16. month old but i've dove into getting my 8 yr old daughter setup to learn. i may have taken it bit far. Fitted her up with a boat paddle from BCA and put optics with it too. all the ones mentioned for smaller framed youth seemed like she'd grow out of it fast.
  17. crazy things happen. saw this prior.
  18. great news. sounds like a hell of a bird dog.
  19. that and venmo. i'll look into it after work. don't use paypal as much.
  20. I've got more updates from the branch and been busy. A lot going on including getting set for the season with local qdm co-ops. We couldn't put together a live event this year but are doing a raffle as our fundraiser. Pic of tickets up for grabs below. Typical disclaimers on back but I'll take a pic. You're responsible for passing nics check at an ffl and any transfers from the ffl we're using to yours of your choice if you can't make it there (whitneys hunting supply in Granville NY). Thanks in advance for the support. 60% proceeds go to national deer association (NDA formerly QDMA), 2% of that goes to support all NY efforts via NYS NDA advisory board, and 40% to us for our endeavors. Much of it local to here in Eastern NY but also things statewide like NYS 4H youth shooting sports, etc. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
